Danland is a worrying thought  Rolling Eyes

Other than that I like Matt's version. So what if you can't search for Highland using cards that search for Basic Lands? That would make it far too easy to search out a Highland. Making it more difficult to search for amkes the deck builder have to decide how many copies to include, rather than just throwing one copy of Highland in in order to power up domain.

Could we give it a tutor-replacement effect?  Like um...

Highland
Land - Highland (or whatever)

T: Add 1 to your mana pool.
If a spell or ability would cause you to search your library for a land card, you may instead find CARDNAME.  If you do, shuffle your library.

This way, it gets pulled out of the library via fetchlands/Farseek/etc... but doesn't go adding itself to the sacred list of basic lands.

Highland
Basic Land -- Highland
{T}: Add {1} to your mana pool.
As long as Highland is in play, Highland is a basic land type.

This would work. Making a basic land with a subtype doesn't automatically make that subtype a basic land type. Supertypes and subtypes are not connected to each other. There is some risk of confusion, however.

How about choosing a non-legend creature? Otherwise he is a UG instant Wrath of Frog.
