Sliver Hunter All Slivers become Bugs ~this~ deals damage equal to its power to target Bug 2/2 Divide them then crush them like bugsI got the idea from the non-Sliver Sliver cards thread. Here's an anti-Sliver dude. His static ability stops the Slivers from gaining in power then he can crush all but the mightiest of Slivers (Sliver Queen is too big!). I thought about changing them into Insects but then Sliver Hunter becomes an Insect hoser too. He is Red as it is the colour that views individuality the most and sees the Sliver collective as a threat to be destroyed. Latest wording
Sliver Hunter All Slivers are Prey ~this~ deals damage equal to its power to target Prey 2/2 Divide them then crush them like bugs

I don't see why they should become "Bugs"; can't they simply become "Prey"? And does this make them lose the Sliver-Type or not, because I think (not sure though) you have to mention that.

This effect will make all Slivers Bugs instead of Slivers. In order to stay slivers, it would have to say "in addition to their other types".
See Mistform Sliver vs. other Mistform creatures.
Pick a better creature type than Bug. It doesn't sound very Magicky.
I almost like the idea of making this a sliver itself. Could be a cool flavor.

Make it a sliver and have it read "All Slivers are are Bugs (they are no longer slivers)". I would love to see the rules problems that card would create.

Does this create rules problems as-is? An effect like this has not been printed before; it's a bit different from things like Standardize, Conspiracy, and Mistform Wakecaster because they don't continually check creature types. It seems like this card would make all Slivers into Bugs, then stop making them into Bugs because they're no longer Slivers, then make them Bugs again, etc. Does the templating need to read, "All Slivers and Bugs are Bugs?" That seems dumb, yet I can't see any way around it.
You could also give it, "1: All Slivers become Bugs until end of turn," or similar. In fact, this could be cool if you made it cost 0. It would basically allow you to toggle back and forth on a turn-by turn basis, so if the card is itself a Sliver, it would allow you to attack with strong Slivers, then turn your opponent's Slivers weak during his turn.
Either way, the current templating seems problematic to me.

The card is fine as-is. Reread the layering rules if you have doubts.

I agree with the creature type woes. Maybe turn it into prey, or even something else? Also, I'm a bit worried about the cost, since he's such an effective hoser.
Also, it should read "All Slivers are <creaturetype>" not "become"

Changed Bug to Prey.
Regarding power level, the hosing ability isn't that powerful (for a narrow hosing ability), a 2/2 Sliver is still a 2/2 Prey. Take Perish as an example of a hoser. For 3 mana I could play a Crypt Rat and RatbombTM all Slivers away, possibly immediately.
The activated ability is a bit like Tracker's. Tracker could target anything but never made constructed play. I could add a mana cost to the activation.
Note that this card is more likely to see play in casual with cards that change creature type than in Constructed as a Sliver hoser.

Why not make the creature type changed to Insects, and keep the flavor text as 'Divide them, and crush them like bugs.'

Mainly because there are quite a few playable Insects (even Zombie Insects grrrrr!!) and I wanted him to be a Sliver hunter not a fly swatter.

Instead of changing creature type, why not do "All Slivers lose all abilities". Yes, it's Humility style and frowns, but it doesn't make sense that this guy fundamentally changes what they are.

Because some smart arse will change Sliver Hunter into a Sliver then Slivers would lose all abilities and so would Sliver Hunter, etc...

The rules can handle that. All Slivers (including Sliver Hunter, now) have no abilities. The fact that Sliver Hunter's ability removes itself doesn't stop it from applying.

Humility and Opalescence worked. There is still no reason to make something so counter-intuitive possible.
