I'm happy to introduce Gateway Comics Etc. to the Type 1 community.  Gateway is one of my favorate places to play, and I look foward to seeing you all there.  Here's the details. 

Due to fire codes, the attendance cap is 45 people.  The only way to gaurantee a spot is to pre-register.  You can do this by phone or stopping by Gateway Comics etc,.  Everyone who pre-registers will be entered into a drawing for a Revised Tropical Island!  Their Saturday tournament gets 20-30 on average, so please pre-register to get insure you get to play.

Prizes for 45 people
1st Place - NM- Mox Pearl Signed Guaranteed 
2nd Place – Choice of either a play set (4) of Underground Seas or a HP Library of Alexandria
3rd Place – Cards 2nd place did not choose
4th Place – 4 Taiga

I am going to give away the Mox Pearl regardless of attendance.  2nd-4th place will be adjusted down if there are less than 45 players.  100% of the entry fees will be put towards the prizes.  Since Gateway Comics gets 20-30 for weekly tournaments, 45 is very likely. 

Cost
$20 for up to 10 proxies.  Additional proxies at $1 each. 

Registration will begin at 10:30.  The tournament will begin promptly at 12 pm. 
Swiss rounds based on attendance.  Cut to top 8.

Proxy rules
10 Proxies with up to 5 additional proxies at $1 each (up to 15 total proxies)

Proxies must contain all oracle text including the full name of the card.  See in store display for examples of acceptable proxies.  For those of you who are familiar with SCG tournaments, I will be following thier policy.  If you have any questions regarding proxies, be sure to ask before the start of the tournament.

Pizza will be available by the slice, as well as snacks and soda. 
Side Drafts will take be available all day with $10 draft sets. 
I will have singles for trade/sale
I will be buying cards.

Hope everyone is having fun getting ready for the Holidays.  With this event less than 2 weeks away, it seems like we're on course for a very strong turn out.  We have 15 pre-registered, and many more that I've spoken to are doing what they can to attend.  I'd like to thank everyone in advance for all the positive feedback I've received about this event.  I really feel that New England is the best place for Vintage in the world, and I hope that this event is the first of many.  I have started planning for an event in January already. 

For my events, I'm going to try and implement something new and different.  I would like to give every single participant a proxy that I have made myself.  First and foremost, is my way of saying thank you for showing up and keeping Vintage strong in New England.  What is different about this, is these proxies will not count towards your proxy count in future events.  My first 9 events will cover the Power 9.  If you show up to all of them, you'll never need to use a proxy on power cards at any of my tournaments.  Once I'm done with the Power 9, I'll put it to a vote to see how to continue. 

While I'm certainly no Vroman, I have been getting better with each attempt.  This is number 7 out of what will be 45.  My hope is this will help people be able to play whatever deck they actually want to play, which in turn leads to stronger competition.



I'd really like to stress the preregistration.  Please contact Gateway Comics, or give me a PM if you're going to show.  While we'll be thrilled to have a full house, we do not want to have to turn anyone away.  Pre-reging will prevent that from happening.  Hope to see you all and remember to bring some friends

I split with Andy in the finals. A good time was had by all. My tournament report should be posted later this week.

Thanks to everyone who came out to make my first Mox tournament a success.  The feedback on the Ancestral Recalls was very positive, so I will continue the hand made cards for my tournament in January.  I'll be posting this week after I iron out some more details.  I gave away way too much in the way of prizes, but there are worse mistakes to make.  I'd rather err on the side of giving away too much, than have people feel like they didn't get their moneys worth.  I'll be very interested to see how much Stephan gets for that Foil Asian Mind's Desire.

Congrats to everyone who made Top 8.  It was one of the best fields I've seen and the competition was fierce.  There were 4 Gifts and 2 stax in the top 8.  Gifts and Stax both put 1/2 of the people playing it in the top 8.  TMWA made it in as 8th seed and then cut through Fish and Stax to draw with Gifts in the finals.  Gifts Mirrors eliminated every Gifts player who didn't make it to the finals. 

Is Gifts getting too good?  Is it just New Englander's preference to Mana Drain that has it showing up en masse?  I'd love to see the feedback about this event.

I have received word from my teammates in Racine that their mox tourney, held the same day as this one, had a top 8 consisting of 8 drain decks.  Mostly gifts, although the finals was split by 2 non gifts players... both on icbm!  Gogo team! *end shameless plug* :p

I think people are finally getting the hint on how good gifts is.  Four making top 8 of this ELD tourney is proof.  The one that made finals was not a cookie cutter version.  I think you put work into gifts, like Brassman has, it's a pure monster.

I suspect Waterbury, er Stratford-bury, to be rife with gifts.  It'll certainly be infested with drains...it's the northeast after all. 

Anyway, tourney was fun.  Thank you to the store and Eric for buffing up the prize support better than it was advertised despite the good but not great turnout.  When you run this again, I'm sure you'll get more people.  You certainly built a player base after this one.

Apparently TMWA can take down Gifts, there are lots of viable strategies to smack Gifts around, even if they involve Magma Jets.

I think it needs to mention that huge props should go to ELD.

This was Eric's first attempt(although attempt implies failure which this event was not) at a tournament and he did a tremendous job.

The location was nice, the price/prize strucutre was fair, things ran smoothly.

The Ancestrals were wicked cool and totally above and beyond the call of duty.

I can't stress to all of you enough, if Eric has another event, you should deffinitly go.

Hasnt ELD run Tourney's in Nashua, NH before?

This was my first Mox/Major Tournament.  I have run normal weekly tournaments/drafts at my local card shops before, but never anything in Nashua, NH.  I've helped tournament organizers with emergency situations, but nothing in NH comes to mind.  In NH I can only recall playing at Myriad, Hammer's and some conventions.   All of those are were very well run and in no need of outside help. 

I appreciate all the positive feedback, and I look forward to seeing you all in January.  I still have details to sort out, but right now one available date is the Saturday before TMD X.  It seems my event could be an excellent tune up for what could be the biggest Type 1 tournament the world has ever seen.

Nashua NH you split for a pearl with Crossman Wilkins, you were playing Control Slaver.  I'm not sure if I may have mistaken you running it cause you were buying cards and was doing that stuff, most likely my mistaken.  Grats on a good tourney though, too bad their 3 hours away from me.
