Original:

Niv-Mizzet's Wit
{U} {R}
Enchantment- [subtype]
Whenever you play an instant or sorcery spell, Scry 4.

Niv-Mizzet's Wit
{U} {R}
Enchantment- [subtype]
Buyback and Replicate costs you pay are reduced by {2} .

Talk about brokeness. Seriosly, talk about it, because it is probably way too good right now. I made it the way it is because of my hatred for Eyes of the Watcher, which I akways tried to play, but then it got cut after about 5 seconds because of incredible crappiness.

I don't like the flavor of this, if for no other reason than it's taking a Mirrodin keyword and giving it to a Ravnica guild.  It'd be like Rakdos getting Madness or Golgari getting Threshold.  Also, I'm not sure that it synergies with Replicate, since you're not playing the copies of the spell (right?)

Its good, but i doubt its brokenness....since it costs UR, does nothing on its own, and is card-disadvantage....yet the effect is pretty powerful.

This is significantly better than Eyes of the Watcher without opening new design space.

It's blue/red, making it not so much better than Eyes, a card I'm willing to obsolete any time. Norm4eva is probably right; it should have more synergie with Izzet and less Mirrodin-ness.

What about:

{U} {R}
Whenever you play an instant or sorcery, you may pay {2} and discard your hand. If you do, search your library for an instant or sorcery card and put it into your hand. If you do, shuffle your library afterwards.

I hate it, because it's easily abusable, annoying to play and doesn't mess around with spells on the stack and the whole "cryziness" thing of the Izzet, but it is the best I came up with.I really need help on this one.

whenever you play an Instant or Sorcery, if an opponent doesn't pay 1 life, search your library for a card with the same name as that spell and remove it from the game.
At the end of your turn, you may put one card that was removed from the game by ~this~ into your hand.

I'm aware of this ("it's easily abusable"), that's why I'd like to have it changed.

@Harlequin: isn't that a little bit, well, weak?

+1 card advantage or 1 damage a turn is fairly good at the 2 mana level.

Look at something like Pyrexian Arena.  thats +1 card for 3 mana and 1 life per turn.

But when will your opponent not take one damage? Izzet isn't a very "burn"-heavy guild, so it's unlikely your opponent will start to have you search your library for anything.

Niv Mizzet has a ping ablity... and there is a replicate Direct damage spell.

And your opponent will stop taking damage when they are at low life Smile
Also if they know you don't have any more copies of that spell left.

Reguardless of what you choose for this card, it has to be appropriate for 2 mana.  Essentially this is "Whenever you play a spell, target opponent takes 1 damage"  but it is more interesting than that, because it pays homage to Replicate.   Becasue if they don't pay the life, then you get a delayed action replicate on the spell you cast.

I know him, I'm just saying that Izzet do usually not burn their opponents to death in a pinging way (Orzhov already sort of ping).

I changed the card, and still don't like it very much. It is not Izzet-y enough. By the way, it does not have to stay {U} {R}, could be more expensive.

Niv-Mizzet's Wit - {2} {U} {R}
Enchantment
Whenever you play a blue sorcery or instant spell, you may pay {1} {U}.  If you do, copy that spell. You may choose new targets for the copy.
Whenever you play a red sorcery or instant spell, you may pay {1} {R}.  If you do, copy that spell. You may choose new targets for the copy.

Okay guys, seriously, I could NOT follow over half of this conversation. One of the forum rules is:

"3. After comments, please edit the original post to include a current wording of the card in bold so us mods know which ones to add. Leave the original cards wording intact so we can see its evolution."

PLEASE follow this rule!
