Budapest, 14th October 2006

Number of players: 32

1. Vial Goblins
2. U/G/r Threshold
4. G/R Aggro
4. Vial Goblins
8. Vial Goblins
8. U/G/r Threshold
8. U/B Fish
8. R/W/b Aggro

I finished 2nd with the following decklist:

4 Flooded Strand
4 Polluted Delta
4 Tropical Island
4 Volcanic Island
2 Island

4 Nimble Mongoose
4 Werebear
3 Burning-Tree Shaman

4 Brainstorm
4 Serum Visions
4 Mental Note
4 Counterspell
3 Daze
4 Force of Will
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Fire/Ice

Sideboard:
3 Pyroclasm
3 Tormod’s Crypt
2 Compost
2 Pithing Needle
2 Naturalize
3 Pyroblast

As it is clearly shown by the top8 decks, the Budapest metagame is fairly aggro-heavy. Expecting SuiBlack and MonoBClerics in a considerable amount, I decided to make room for 2 Composts in the Board. Thus, I had to remove 1 Pyroclasm and 1 Pyroblast before handing in the decklist. However, It didn't really appear to be a wise choice due to the large number of Goblins. Moreover, I should've gone for Loaming Shamans over Crypts.

My record after the swiss: 3-0-2

1. vs. Mono Black Clerics 2-0 (2-0) 3p
2. vs. U/G/r Threshold (with Fledgling Dragon over Burning-Tree Shaman) 1-1 (3-1) 4p
3. vs. Affinity 2-0 (Zoltan Szoke) (Current National Champion) (5-1) 7p
4. vs. Vial Goblins (Michael Durham) (Later Top4; Former National Champion) 2-1 (7-2) 10p
5. vs. Vial Goblins (Later Top8) 0-0 ID (7-2) 11p

Top8 vs. R/W/b Aggro 3-1 (10-3)
Top4 vs. R/G Aggro 3-2 (13-5)
Final vs. Vial Goblins (Miklos Hodovan) (Current Nationals Top4) 1-3 (14-8)

Woah, er. Legacy in Budapest? Why didn't I hear of this? Not like I own any cards I could've entered with... but it would at least have allowed me the nagging feeling that I should acquire some.
Are there any sort of regular Legacy events around? Where can I hear of them in the future?

Thanks. Hope you enjoyed it. There was not much to read, though. Prolly next time I'll go more into details.

BTS doesn't die to 'yard hate, nor to Wasteland; comes a turn faster than the Dragon; gg against affinity (at least it is sth of a threat) and is useful against a list of cards like Fetchlands, Ports, Vials, 'Togs, etc.
Although, obviously not superior to the Dragon after successfully reaching (and upkeeping) threshold, but I really wanted a guy being ignorant to the amount of cards in my 'yard.
Yep, pretty much useful, I would say.

We have regular Vintage-Legacy tourneys every 2nd week with an attendance of let's say 12-15 people. There should be a minor Legacy event on December 30th, but I'm not sure coz of the holidays. I'll go and ask the organisers about that in case you're really interested.
The guys are a bit lazy on updating the homepage, but it might be worth giving a try: www.holdfenyteam.hu
Prolly I can make announcements about upcoming tourneys in the future if that makes sense to some of you. Would you be interested? I mean, everyone's welcome. Smile

Is there anyone else on these boards from .hu?
Otherwise, yeah, I'm certainly interested; but I literally have no cards other than a box of bad commons, and there's exams and such right now so I'm unlikely to be at the dec 30 one. If they're held regularly, though, I'll have no choice but to acquire a deck and attend them. :)

So how exactly are they -- every second week, both Vintage and Legacy (so over four weeks, vintage+legacy, nothing, vintage+legacy, nothing); every second week, either Vintage or Legacy (vintage, nothing, legacy, nothing); or Vintage and Legacy alternating every other week (vintage, legacy, vintage, legacy)? And what's the rules about proxies?

Vvintage, nothing, Legacy, nothing. Smile 10 proxies are allowed at Vintage tourneys. The rest in private.
