Let's not race to see who gets warnings first, because there will be no "winners" in that contest.

Um, I consider everyone who's posted so far my friend...except for you. There's no hard feelings on this thread. We're just all joking around. Ew, you killed my buzz.

Condescend much? Verbal warning for something that should have been a PM.

Not that anyone knows who I am, but I'll be going assuming I can get a handfull of people together to carpool with. Playing something that's not goblins, thresshold, high tide, or iggy.  Smile

Some results (as best as I can remember them):

Top 8:

UW landstill vs. GWB control deck (forget the name of this archetype.) - Landstill wins.
UGW Threshold vs. white weenie - ww wins.
UR Landstill (me) vs. RGB Zoo-ish aggro deck - Landstill wins.
UWB Fish vs. Goblins -  Fish wins.

Top 4:

UR Landstill vs. WW - WW wins. (I lost, boo.)
UWB Fish vs. UW Landstill - As far as I could tell, Landstill won.

Not sure what happened with the finals, but I assume there was a split involved. I went home.

The turnout was very low, we had 17 people (actually 16 people.)

Sort of a dissapointing turnout, but whatever.

I piloted UBW Fish to Top 4, facing:
R1: Affinity, 2-0 (1-0)
R2: UW Landstill, 1-1-1 (1-0-1)
R3: UR Landstill, 2-0 (2-0-1)
R4: WW, ID (2-0-2)
T8: Mono-Red Goblins, 2-0
T4: UW Landstill, 0-2

I didn't really take notes, 'cause I didn't feel like it.  So, I leave with $40 in store credit and a worthless draft set.

Props:
-Austin and Rick for driving me. (I shall sacrifice a thousand lambs in your honor.)
-Pandemonium for holding the tournament
-Everyone who attended for being good sportsmen (and women) - it was a great crowd and atmosphere, very light-hearted.  Everyone was having fun.  Always a major plus
-Austin and Rick for being awesome.

Slops:
-Everyone who didn't show up.
-Wrath of God and Nevinyrral's Disk.  And Faerie Conclave.  And Mishra's Factory.  And Dust Bowl.

It was a shame there weren't more people, as we barely had enough to cut to Top 8.  I had a good time, though, so it's all good.

The meta itself was something like this:
2 Landstill (UR and UW, both of which Top 8'ed.  UR Top 4'ed, UW Top 2'ed)
1 UBW Fish (*sigh* Top 4.  Again.  Lame.)
1 Lands.dec (Worst. Deck. Ever.)
1 Goblins
1 Angel Stax
2 Mono-Red Sligh (or something to that effect.  I know Phil Cape was playing Sligh, but I'm not entirely sure about the other one.  I know it was mono-Red and ran burn.  Dunno about creatures.  Whatever.)
1 F***ed-Up RGB Pseudo-Zoo (piloted by cancerstix.  I guess it sort of worked?  Made Top 8)
1 Truffle Shuffle (the GWB Control deck Liek was talking about.  Piloted by Master Shake.  Made Top 8)
2 Affinity
1 Sort of Mono-Black Control (Ran Phyrexian Totem.  Not so cool beans.)
1 UGW Threshold (Quirion Dryad ftw.  Top 8)
1 White Weenie (JINXED CHOKER FTW.  Top 2)
1 Other WW

I think there was like one or two more, but I can't remember.

I missed this because my friend Andy had a stupid meeting at work. If you look at a previous Pandemonium tourney thread, that same gentleman fucked up my plans for that tournament. And if you look at the GenCon thread, he also fucked up my GenCon plans.

Boo for having friends with lives outside of Magic Sad

I promise I'll make the next tournament, even if my buddy has shit to do. The weather should be better then, too.

They split store credit 50/50.  Something like $140 each, which seems pretty good.  Technically, the WW guy conceded to Austin, but who's counting?

For whatever reason, there was no deck registration, so I don't think anyone has all the Top 8 lists.  Aside from me, Liek, cancerstix, and Master Shake, the rest of the Top 8 aren't registered here.

As for my list, it's pretty much the same one I top 4'ed with at the Kettering tournament in September.

Mono-Blue Control with Black and White Splash Suggested by Richard Franklin on 2007-02-18 as a Potential Deck for Legacy
By Richard Franklin

4 Tundra
3 Underground Sea
3 Polluted Delta
3 Flooded Strand
2 Island
1 Plains
1 Swamp
1 Scrubland

4 Dark Confidant
4 Meddling Mage
3 Jotun Grunt
3 Mother of Runes
2 Serendib Efreet

4 Brainstorm
4 Serum Visions

4 Force of Will
4 Daze
3 Stifle

4 Swords to Plowshares
3 Umezawa’s Jitte

SB: 3 Engineered Plague
SB: 3 Duress
SB: 3 Serenity
SB: 3 Kataki, War’s Wage
SB: 3 Engineered Explosives

Though, I moved Duress to the SB, and increased the Stifles maindeck.

*edit* Okay, nevermind.  I completely forgot I was running Wasteland and Vindicate back in September.  So, yeh, it's slightly more different than 'pretty much the same thing'.  Whatever.

How did this work out? How often did you board in Duress? Did you ever board out Stifle? How much stuff got Stiffle'd? Thanks.

We never have deck registration for these events, but in case someone wants to know, this is what I played.

3 island
1 mountain
4 volcanic island
1 tropical island
1 flooded strand
1 polluted delta
2 wooded foothills

4 wasteland
3 mishra's factory
3 faerie conclave
1 academy ruins

1 meloku the clouded mirror

2 spell snare
4 counterspell
4 force of will

3 lightning bolt
4 fire ice
3 engineered explosives
2 vedalken shackles
3 crucible of worlds

4 brainstorm
4 standstill
2 fact or fiction

sideboard:
3 arcane laboratory
4 pyroclasm
2 stifle
1 spell snare
1 echoing truth
2 red elemental blast
2 energy flux

The red fetches and mountain were very bad. The lack of bounce spells was bad. The sideboard was bad (flux was for the two people playing affinity.) Everything else was really good, Academy Ruins won me several games, Vedalken Shackles was really strong, just about everything else in the deck was good.

<hyperbole>Stifle is pretty much the best card in the format.</hyperbole>

It's actually good against pretty much everything - it's rarely ever dead.  I don't remember ever 'boarding it out

Duress, on the other hand, doesn't help you as much against the Aggro matchup (which you're most worried about), and is stronger coming off the bench.  Duress is there for Combo and Control, and I 'boarded it in against Landstill.

I forgot I was running Vindicate and Wasteland back in September, but I like this new build better.  It's much more fluid.

I think we all know this. I meant, specifically, in this particular tournament what got Stifle'd? Did you only board in Duress once in 6 rounds? It looks like it came in 50% of the time.

@ Liek - Nice list. Did Spell Snare hit anything? And yeah, Shackles is awesome. Smile

Hrm...Fetchlands, Decree of Justice, Ringleader, Matron, Wasteland.  Possibly a few more things, but that's all I can remember.   Duress did come in everytime against Landstill, where it was pretty decent.  I don't really remember, specifically, what I brought out in each match, but I know that Stifle pretty much stayed in for everything.

I suppose it's time to pseudobrag about what I played:

Truffle "The" Shuffle (old list, ignoring all the innovation that everyone puts in at The Source.)

Beats:

2 Gigapede
2 Grave-Shell Scarab
3 Eternal Witness

Disruption:

4 Duress
4 Hymn to Tourach
2 Haunting Echoes

Removal:

4 Vindicate
4 Pernicious Deed
4 Swords to Plowshares
3 Wrath of God

Draw/Tutor:

3 Korsan Tusker
3 Sensei's Divining Top

Manabase:

4 Bayou
4 Scrubland
4 Windswept Heath
3 Savannah
2 Plains
2 Forest
2 Swamp
1 Bloodstained Mire

Side of Board:
4 Gerrard's Verdict
4 Cabal Therapy
4 Loxodon Hierarch
3 Infest

I expected heavy combo and threshold/fish; there were 0 combo decks and 1 of each of the latter. The metagame was mostly Zoo/Sligh and Landstill.

Match-ups:

Round One: Paul with U/r Landstill

Game 1: He wins Rock-Paper-Scissors The fact that he is not using sweeping effects doesn't seem to bother him, as I have nothing to sweep. He draws a bunch of cards, while I try to decimate his hand. I try to resolve Echoes a couple of times, but it never seems to work. Through some manner of means, he reduces my life to zero I'm pretty sure he didn't even need Crucible to do it. I remember reading that Landstill is supposed to be highly favorable, but I wonder if it really is.

Sideboarding: 2- Grave-Shell Scarabs. -3 Wrath of God +4 Loxodon Hierarch +1 Gerrard's Verdict: He has no STP, so I hope that his burn can't handle Elephants.

Game 2: I get Duress, Verdict, Hymn a-go-going before I drop an elephant and a Witness. Until turn ten or so, those are my only creatures. I get another elephant in the fray, the next turn he drops Meloku, I STP it at the end step, and he produces a Fog token, Elephants bash through them and they reduce his life total to zero on the next turn. He Gets Wasteland-Crucible on-line this game but I have all six basics on the table.

Game 3: This game nearly goes to time, and mostly involves me trying to kill both Crucible and Academy Ruins in the same turn. I had an opportunity, but do it in the wrong order, and walk into Stifle for me Deed.

1-2

Round 2 Andrew with R/w/g Zoo.

Game 1: He wins Rock-Paper-Scissors I have no idea what he's playing and keep a hand Sans Swords. He kills me on turn 4.

Sideboarding: -4 Duress -4 Vindicate +4 Gerrard's Verdict +4 Loxodon Hierarch.

Game 2: Turn 3 Deed clears away 3 guys, turn 5 Loxodon Hierarch sets my life total up to 11 (Out of Bolt+Fireblast range) Hirearch is also nice enough to stay back and block until I resolve a Haunting Echoes. I make a grave mistake with Echoes and amidst removing 95% of his deck, 2 of the 3 Rancors in his deck hit his RFG pile. The judge is called over and issues us each a warning. I'm really disappointed with myself over this for making the mistake, and because I would have prefered him to have Rancor in his deck. But I have the game won anyway, he has 3 creatures a Rancor and no other cards left in his deck, and Top tells me I have an answer for each of them.

Game 3: I play Swords two early beaters, and Verdict on turn 3. Turn 4 sees me with an elephant, turn 5 and elephant, and they win the game from there on.

3-3

Round 3 Marcel playing 43land.dec

Game 1: I'm not happy about this at all, I'm pretty sure I can't win it. I get a hand with Echoes, a top and some removal, and decide that it's really my only chance. He doesn't know what I'm playing and leads with Tabernacle and passes. I take advantage of the Time Walk, and get my top on the table. He plays Ghost Quarter to kill my Bayou, I happily search out a basic. He gets Manabond on the table, but doesn't dump his hand. I Vindicate the Manabond. He plays Mulch, drawing 4 cards. He play LftL, getting only Ghost Quarter back. My 5th turn comes around and I have 5 mana sources. I Echoes away all the relevant spells in his deck (not that there are many (spells in his deck.)) I'm happy with myself. He he starts beating me with Factories and Villages, I Deed, Swords and Vindicate them off, until I'm able to Witness back the Echoes, and get rid of all of his ma-nlands. Gigapede works his way around the Maze of Ith, Quicksand and slowly takes out the rest of his man-lands until I'm able to win the game. Phew!

Sideboarding: -1 Duress -3 Wrath of God +4 Loxodon Hirearch.

Game 2: I'm still very unhappy about this. My hand is Witness, Top, Hymn, 2 Loxodon Hierarchs, Swamp and Bloodstained Mire: It's risky, but I figure that Top will help me get to land 3, and 2 Green sources will give me my 4th land, which lets me get Hirearchs on the table. This game, he gets the nuts "Land -> Manabond Factory, Village, Wasteland, Wasteland, Tabernacle" I'm pretty sure I've lost this game. I play my swamp and top. He cycles a land and attacks. Long story short, he gets me down to 7 and has the choice of attacking for 5, or attacking for 3, and using Port on my turn. He opts to attac, bringing me to 2. I beath a huge sigh of relief, untap, let my Witness die, and play Hierarch. Next turn, I play land and play another, next turn I play a land and play a 3rd. At that point, I keep playing lands, while playing on the defensive, and eventually I ask my elephants to go over and see how he's doing.

5-3

Round 4 Idon'tremember his name with U/g/w Gro

We decide to ID, but I ask him to play a couple of games anyway.

Game 1: He beats me down until I resolve Echoes, and then deed. He concedes.

Game 2: He beats me down until I resolve Echoes and then deed. He concedes.

7-3

Top 8: Round 5 Austin with U/w Landstill

Game 1: I mulligan to 5, and keep a hand with land. I try to make a come back, but I don't have anything. He draws a bunch of cards, and I don't do anything useful while he kills me with Factories.

Sideboarding: -3 Wrath of God +3 Gerrard's Verdict (He has swords, so I'm not bringing the Elephants in.)

Game 2: Once again, I mulligan to 5, keeping the first hand with land that I see. I never get more than 2 land on the table thanks to his Wasteland and sadistic use of Dustbowl. Apparently Truffle "The" Shuffle sucks against Landstill.

Conclusion

My board sucked, the deck preformed well, considering how many odd matches I had where half my deck was sub-par. Next month I'm going back to my old stand-by. Test the waters in the on-line enviorment and around here, and see if the water's right for the Grand Prix. I hope to see you there.
