If you don't know what a rube goldberg machine is, it's one of those cool things you see on TV a lot where there are dozens of tiny interactions which build up into a complicated machine for the purpose of a simple effect.  This is a good example:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=407619013941956006&q=the+cog

So the challenge is to find the best rube goldberg deck.  No, draw7 doesn't count, it needs to be a deck that chains together the most awesome set of abilities to make an obnoxiously overpowered and completely unecessarily long combo for the win (and it has to actually win).  For example, you could use three cards to gain infinite life, four cards to turn that life into mana, and two more cards to turn that mana into damage to kill your opponent (I don't know what combination of cards does this, but I'm sure it exists).  Bonus points if your combo doesn't just convert one infinity into another halfway through, or if it's actually not a bad overall deck.

While I realize I put the word "challenge" in the thread title, I don't have a scoring system, nor a prize.  So think of it more as a challenge of love, not labor.  And everyone's a winner!

Aluren does this in Legacy ! Wink

Cavern Harpy and Raven Familiar for plenty cards.
Man'O-War and Cavern Harpy and Spike Feeder for plenty life.
Man'O-War and Cavern Harpy and Wall of Roots for plenty mana.
Man'O-War and Cavern Harpy and Spike Feeder to turn that mana into damage.

Fleetfoot Panther can be added in the mix along with Rishadan Curtpurse and others Smile

I think my elf clamp should qualify.

//Elves--34
4x Birchlore Rangers
2x Caller of the Claw
4x Fyndhorn Elves
4x Llanowar Elves
4x Priest of Titania
4x Quirion Ranger
2x Timberwatch Elf
2x Wellwisher
4x Wirewood Herald
4x Wirewood Hivemaster

//Not Elves--10
1x Phyrexian Altar
4x Skullclamp
1x Concordant Crossroads
1x Fastbond
1x Krosan Reclamation
1x Piper's Melody
1x Regrowth

//Land
16x Forest

Obv, it can just go aggro ftw.  But my favorite way to pilot this is to go infinite in a very crazy manner.  Nearly deck yourself by clamping uneeded elves (extra Birchlores, used-up Quirion Rangers, etc) and insect tokens.  Then sack everything but Hivemasters to Phyrexian Altar for a boatload of green mana.  Then Piper's Melody all the elves back.  Do it all again.  Regrowth for Piper's Melody and shuffle everything back.  Krosan Reclamation the Melody and Regrowth back in the deck.  Tear through it all again.  Piper's Melody them back again.  Regrowth Krosan Rec.  Krosan Rec the regrowth and melody back in the library.  Rinse and repeat.  Fastbond is to replay forests returned with Ranger.

Each time you tear through the deck, you net a ton of life, insect and bear tokens, and mana.  You can finish with all the elves in the deck in play along with any amount of insect and bear tokens.  Avoid mana burn by equipping a bear token with skullclamp, and switching it to a different bear until the pool is empty.  Swing for a bunch on that turn.

I think Goblinrecruiter wins.

We have rather cyclic discussion, and I fully believe that someone so inclined could create a rather accurate computer program which could do a fine job impersonating any of us.

Just take 5c GrimLong, cut the Tendrils for the 4th ESG and go ESG aggro. You get bonus points if you can do it the same way twice.

This reminds me of the "how slow can you kill" thread, which found decks that killed in some untold trillions of turns.

I'll be honest, I don't even know if that combo works (who can be bothered to check it out?) but here's pretty good:
