We are holding a series of Legacy tournaments in Columbus, Ohio leading up to the Grand Prix. Some of you have expressed interest in legacy in Columbus. Those of you from the midwest have no excuse! Come out and play. Our last event was a great success so we wish to build upon it!

To summarize:

What: Legacy tournament

Entry is $15

Where: The Soldiery

4256 N. High St.

Columbus, Ohio 43214

When: March 4, 2007

Prizes: Will be based upon attendance. Last time we gave away
1st: $200
2nd: $120
3rd:$60
4th:$20

Regardless of attendance, $200 is GUARANTEED to be given away, like last time.

Registration starts at 12:30. Tournament begins at 1pm sharp.
Tournament will probably run until around 8-9pm.

Swiss with cut to top 8 (unless low attendance, cut to top 4).

Also: this event will be sanctioned and judged. Don't forget your DCI number! With GP: Columbus coming up after the event, this is a good place to test your deck or cut your teeth on the Legacy format.

Hope you can make it!

Is it a great idea having it the same weekend at The Mana Leak Open 2?

Ugh.

The weekend before I can't do because Mike Bomholt can't make it.   The weekend after is then nearly two months since our last event.   Is anyone from this area planning on going to TML Open?

Your announcement sounds really nerdy, but I will show up to this. If I lose, I will cry, but I've been "cutting my teeth" on the format for a loooong time. I'm not the same scrub I used to be Menendian Wink

Our thinking is that it's unlikely people from the Midwest will be going to TML Open. If they were thinking about it but are daunted by the distance, then this tournament provides some Legacy on the same weekend.

Although the $200 prize payout is gauranteed, it will be revised upwards as the attendance rises.

Actually yeah, but I totally forgot about this until last night. Someone was like "I  need to borrow cards for a Legacy tournament at the Soldiery on Sunday" and I'm like "Wait, I'm playing in that."

Anyways, it will be good to see you again, Smmenen.

Bomholdt played IGG, Menendian played IGG.

Round 1 - Doug playing Solidarity (2-1)
Round 2 - Brad playing MBC (0-2)
Round 3 - Sam playing MBC (2-1)
Round 4 - Sam (different guy) playing MBC (2-0)
Round 5 - ID with Affinity
Top 8 - Spence playing Deadguy (2-0)
Top 4 - Seth playing Boros (Disenchanted my Worship Sad) (1-2)
Battle for 3rd place - Some guy playing DryadGro (2-0)

I came in 3rd and won $20. Nice!

Props:
Paul Mastriano, CoT4, for being like a father to me  Razz. He spilled his drink on my brand new white shoes though Sad
The Soldiery for the prize support
Seth for coming in 2nd
Spence for playing Magic with me <3

Slops:
MBC three rounds in a row. Can you say lame?
DCI for not matching me up against Bomholdt or Menendian (I MD'd 3 Trickbind especially for that Iggy shit)

I always found MBC to be a rough time for Gro/threshold. How did your wins play out?

*shrug*

I dunno, I try to get threshold kinda quick, counter their creatures, and just try to withstand their disruption. Enforcer is pretty good against MBC, I hear. Luckily, hand rip actually helps threshold do what it wants to do, so I never complain when I get Hymn'd. I'm not saying the matchup is a walk in the park, but it's definitely managable. Just play smart.

The "maybe Pox" is my assorted jumble of black stuff, which will likely find its way into another thread at the Development forum tomorrow if anybody's looking for an explanation. If you're feeling curious or helpful, check it out tomorrow.

Thanks to the other 17 that showed, I really enjoyed it!

Khorshed, are you the guy I went to Chipotle with? You played MBC (or at least the makings of it).

Props to everyone for showing.
Props to my super secret tech for insuring that I am never actually matched against the deck I wanted it for..
SUPER PROPS to Mindslaver being in my deck.

I suppose I'll come down for future events thanks to this one Smile

Yeah, it was pretty fun.  Meandeck tournaments always are.  I was happy to come in 4th with untested, homebrewed Gro in my first Legacy tournament.  I was even happier to go to Thurman's after the event.  Maybe I'll come back next time.  Maybe.

Will there be decklists and breakdowns?

That super props is due to Spencer Spelljacking a Phage. If anyone but him had Slaver in his deck in T4, it would have come out and Spencer would be saying "Oh, maybe I will CAST PHAGE."

And that was a really sweet T4 game. Any T4 game in which I get Mist Dragon is a good one. It's the first pick in the entire stack for me.
