I am pleased to announce the date for my third Mox Tournament.  At my last event, the competition was strong with many of New England's best giving it their all.  The team known as "TPS" (The Perfect Scrubs) was impressive in the swiss capturing all of the top 4 slots.  Daniel Gacioch of TPS would go on to split in the finals with the Jeff Greene.  Will "TPS" continue their winning ways?  How will Planar Chaos effect the metagame?  With no one playing Ichorid at the last event, is it safe to take those Leylines out of the sideboard???  All these questions will be answered at ELD's Mox Tournament III !!!

First place prize will be a Mox Pearl.

Here's the details:
ELD's Mox Tournament III
Saturday, March 17th, 2007
$20 Entry Fee

with
Scholar's
34 Central Sq
Bridgewater, MA
Phone: (508) 279-1712

The event will be at Cole Hall.  It is the next building over from the church on the rotary.

Pre-registration puts you in a drawing for a free Taiga.  You can do this by sending me a PM or an e-mail at EricELD@comcast.net.

Prizes (based on 28 people - everything but the Mox Pearl will be adjusted based on attendance)
1st Place - UL Mox Pearl shown above
2nd Place – Signed Black Bordered French Underground Sea
3rd Place – Set of Foil Brainstorms
4th Place – Unlimited Psionic Blast
5th-8th   - Choice from Type 1 goodness such as Foil Rack and Ruin, Foil Rebuild, Foil Fact or Fiction, Foil Stifle, Foil Trinisphere and many more.

I am going to give away the Mox Pearl regardless of attendance.  Other places will be adjusted down if there are less than 28 players.  Prizes will be adjusted up if we have more than 28.  100% of the entry fees will be put towards the prizes.  That's what to expect out of all of my tournaments.

A Limited Edition hand-made Mox Pearl Proxy will be given to every participant.  These proxies will not count towards your proxy count for all my future events.  I will only be making 45 of these.  If we get over 45 people, I have power proxies from the previous events.  Pre-registering will guarantee a Mox Pearl Proxy in the case of +45 showing.  Players may reserve specific numbered proxies when they pre-register.

Cost
$20 for up to 10 proxies.  Additional proxies at $1 each. The Proxy Power cards from my previous events do not count towards your proxy count.

Registration will begin at 11:00.  The tournament will begin promptly at 12 pm.
Swiss rounds based on attendance.  Cut to top 8.

Proxy rules
10 Proxies with up to 5 additional proxies at $1 each (up to 15 total proxies)

Proxies must contain all oracle text including the full name of the card.  For those of you who are familiar with SCG tournaments, I will be following their policy.  If you have any questions regarding proxies, be sure to ask before the start of the tournament.

I have been playing Vintage on Monday nights at Scholar's for years.  The location is close to both 495 and 24.  It is also very accessible via the Train.  The ease of getting there has made for some great crowds over the years.  I have always considered it my most valuable testing ground for Type 1.  I'm excited to be able to work with them to create an environment that fosters both competition and a sense of community for Magic players in New England.

Also -
Pizza will be available by the slice, as well as snacks and soda.
Side Drafts will take be available all day with discounted draft sets.
I will have singles for trade/sale
I will be buying cards.
      Commons/Uncommons/Lands mixed (at least 10% uncommon) @ $5 per 1000
      Bulk rares @ $0.10 each
      Bulk Foils @ $0.05 each
Bulk Foil Rares @ $0.25 each
I'll be buying good cards as well – turn your unwanted cards into cash!

Look forward to seeing you all there.

I'll be there.  Checked the calendar and the date is fine.  Put me down for number 18 on the Mox Pearl proxy.

See you soon,

I've heard great things about these events, but alas I cannot go. March is a busy month for me. However, I will make it out to one of these someday, if only for the infiny cool proxy structure.

It pays to get in on these early.

One week until my Vintage Power 9 Tournament Series returns to Bridgewater.  The proxies are in the middle stages, so it is still not too late for me to personalize specific numbers for people.  The deadline for requests of personalized moxen is Tuesday (due to the time it takes to do the final color on all the Proxies.)  Please be sure to pre-register if you plan on making it down.  I've been hearing a lot of talk about people on coming down in groups, so be sure to pre-register by sending me an IM, PM, or E-mail - it will help the event run as smoothly as possible.

To encourage pre-registers, not only will there be a Taiga up for grabs, but also, a separate drawing for a Super Fly Monkey.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCKTNV3R_pE

Due to the certain bloodshed that Superfly Moneys always lead to, it will not be used in the tournament hall.  I will also in no way be accountable for any damage to person or property that he leads to.  I'll be posting the moxes as they progress through the week.

***UPDATE***

I'll be attending Scholar's Monday Night for their weekly tournament.  If 8 or more people attend it is straight swiss.  If it's 6 or less everyone plays everyone.  It is a great tune up for the Mox Tournament, and the prize structure is very generous.  The entry fee is $6 and the store gives out $8 in store credit per person.  Pay out is to the top 4 and Scholar's has a wide variety of things to spend credit on.  The event starts at 7 and is usually over by 10.

This would also be a good time to take care of trades for anyone looking to find cards before Saturday.

Perhaps we should have a prize for Best St. Patrick's Day Outfit  Mr. Green

A fantastic suggestion Dan.  I will give out a prize for the person with the Best St. Patrick's Day Outfit.  It will be put to a vote some time before the Top 8.

I wish I could go, but looks like I'll be missing this one since I am currently on the west coast.  With all these costumes and outfits you had better take some pictures so I can see what I am missing out on!

The main artwork is done on all 45 proxies.  I will be able to get the backgrounds done tomorrow and the text done on Friday.  I'll post pictures as I finish each step.

I'm fielding ideas for side events.  Is anyone interested in doing an Unglued Booster Draft?  The packs would be $5 each.  If people could PM me or post to this thread, that would be a help for figuring out what kind of side events everyone would enjoy most.

I would play in an Unglued booster draft.

Unfortunatey, though, I'll be busy waiting for my top 8 match to start.

Our newly formed team will be there sporting our super sexy Team Glitch tee shirts  Very Happy (4 out of the 5 of us).  Out of the 4 of us coming, 3 would most likely do the unglued booster draft, so I'd definitely consider running it.  One of our members is running a deck that I plan on being surprising, and wouldn't doubt it top 8-ing.

Meet you all in the losers bracket,
 {Tap} Marek

By the way, love the pearl proxies Eric!

EDIT:  Due to some last minute decisions...we may all end up playing the decks we know how to play best...so much for the surprise deck. Sad

I'll still be playing  {3} {R}{2} {B} = I win, lol... for anyone wondering.

Hopefully snow doesnt dampen the competition for this...but I think its supposed to end early in the morning and switch over to rain or something...so I don't really see this being a problem.

The backgrounds have taken much more time than anticipated.  Hence me posting this at 3:33 am. It looks like despite the poor weather predicted for today, I'll have plenty to do with prep for the event and finishing the proxies.  The forecast looks like Saturday will be bereft of snow, which is a good sign for everyone who is driving a considerable distance.  A final reminder for everyone to pre-register.  It gives you a chance for one of two amazing prizes, and it will help make the event run as smoothly as possible.

The proxies have been completed.  I'll see you all tomorrow.

I have also beefed up the prize structure for 28 people.  I am hopeful that we might break the 30 player mark this time.

2nd Place – Signed Black Bordered French Underground Sea
3rd Place – Unlimited Berserk
4th Place – Set of 4x Foil FNM Brainstorms

- XL family guy T-Shirt http://www.myteespot.com/product.php?productid=5691&cat=1&page=1
2 Pre-Reg random drawings Taiga + SuperFly Monkey http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCKTNV3R_pE

The Family Guy T-shirt and Superfly Monkey will not be coming out of the prize support.  They are entirely free prizes.

I am going to give away the Mox Pearl regardless of attendance.  Other places will be adjusted down if there are less than 28 players.  Prizes will be adjusted up if we have more than 28.  100% of the entry fees will be put towards the prizes.  That's what to expect out of all of my tournaments.

We had a great time today, celebrating St. Patrick's Day while enjoying some fine Vintage Magic.

The Mox Pearl Proxies are awesome!

Congrats to all the winners, especially Mike Bergeron for his first Top 8!

I would've like to play in this but had to work.  Congrats to all who did well and to Eric for running what looks like another successful tourney.

I'd never been to an event organized by ELD, but everything was top notch.  It's too bad the weather affected turn out, but we all had a great time anyway.  Can't wait for next month.

Arik Pogrebinsky has written a report about his Top 8 linked below.

Thanks again to everyone who made this event a success.  I hope to see you all at my next event.  I suspect we may have a new attendance record, as 25 with the weather being that crappy was really encouraging to me.  The next event is also for a Sapphire, which often draws a bigger crowd.  You can find the details below.

RIP Mogg Fanatic...at least you are still better than Fire Bowman!!!

I was once asked on MWS, what the highest I ever finished at a TMD Open was.  I replied, "I've never played in a Waterbury.  I was then called "A TOTAL NOOB!"
