Fifteen people showed up to play yesterday at the Gamers Lounge, and eight of them went out to eat afterward with Dave, the ownerer of the store. The top eight and final pairings looked like this after four rounds:
1. Mark Trogdon - One of infinite variations of the Trogdeck (Workshops with Red) 8. Anthony Michaels - Slaver
4. Ray Kehr - PitchLong 5. Geoff Moes - BG Ichorid with mana, no Dread Returns
2. Norm White - Slaver 7. Jeff "Brain" Blystone - Gifts with Regrowth, no EtW
3. Nat Moes - UB Fish 6. Juan Rodriguez - UW Fish
Trogdon beat Michaels Geoff Moes beat Kehr Blystone beat Norm-O Rodriguez beat Nat Moes.
Geoff Moes beat Trogdon Blystone beat Rodriguez
Jeff Blystone and Geoff Moes played it out over who was spelling his name correctly. In a pivotal game three, after a stunning game two victory that earned a 21 BAOOOOM salute, Blystone carried out the Tendrils kill on his last turn alive. It was a sight to be seen; EOT Chain your Chalice for 0, Mox, Mox, Lotus, Rebuild, Mox, Mox, Lotus, topdecked Hurkyll's, insanity.
Congratulations to Ray Kehr, being the only person to defeat Brain during the swiss and going home with an altered "Sundering Brain" as a prize. Curse you Michiganders for stealing our pimp cards.
More congratulations to Jeff Blystone for continuing his dominance of every Mox tournament except for Pearls!
Thanks to everyone who came out from the Dungeon in Sheffield, OH and for Ray coming down from Michigan and for everyone else who made the drive. It was lots of fun and I hope we'll see you all again soon.
I'll have top-8 decklists, pictures, and Norm's last name later.
We're tentatively scheduling another Mox event for next month, depending on whether we can get another Mox to give away. Nothing's set in stone, yet, but if you want to mark your calendars, it will most likely be Sunday, March 11. I'll have more information as it approaches.

Well, there is an Olive Garden close by, but it's all about poopcake at Diana's after. Congrats to everyone who went and did well, but cherish it while it lasts, because I make my triumphant return to vintage magic in two short weeks.
Congrats again, and these events are always great!

I do believe a good time was had by all, as usual, and I must say that the after-tourney meal is the best thing to happen to Magic tournaments since... uh... something really good happened to them.

After those decks we had Monoblack Braids Control; 2-Land Belcher; Welderless MUD; Tendrils with maindeck Duress, Force, and Darksteel; Dread Return 5-Color Mana Ichorid; T1 Elves; and, my favorite deck of all time, Easter Tendrils, this time with maindeck Belcher.
One thing that I forgot to mention earlier was that, alongside the regulars, we had a nice turnout of new and relatively new players to Vintage. Even the eventual champion, Jeff Blystone, was playing in only his fourth mox tournament. Hopefully the format was intriguing to them and not intimidating as it sometimes can be, and hopefully we'll see them all again at tournaments in the future.

I played right into one on accident. I LATR, saw it was safe and mystical tutored for A-call. I got popped with a J-scepter from the graveyard. Trogdan also sneaked one in against me and underneath it was Force of Will, Thirst for Knowledge, and Brainstorm. It was bad beats, but what is a care bear to do. I saw it in action and it worked really well for Trogdan, so I give him mad props on being brave enough to use such a radical card.

the brain strikes again. The Dummy 1 - The Brain 0. I own the Brain, (both literal and figurative). Jeff did manage to beat Geoff Moes, who played hardcore Ichorid in our q-finals match. If only my deck hadn't poo'd on me in game three, {sigh}. Once again a great event put on by the Gamers Lounge. Dave is first class, and the tourneys are always a blast, including the 3 minute "BAAOOOOOOMMM" fest between JR and Justin. I can't wait for the next one, maybe I'll even make the poop cake dinner at Dianes.

3x Extirpate (so good) Planar Chaos is not yet tournament legal How has Extirpate been performing? Is it really the bomb some people are proclaiming?

3x Extirpate (so good) Planar Chaos is not yet tournament legal How has Extirpate been performing? Is it really the bomb some people are proclaiming? In the discription of the tourney it stated that Planar Chaos would be legal. I was playing Slaver and got Extripated 3 times in one match losing Force, Thirst, and Underground Sea and I still won. I did not see it as that big of a threat. It is just another card you have to play around. Only time will truly tell though. @normoftw: Good to see ya at the tourney. The Brain claims to win 75% of all mox tourney's he plays in. Some one has to take him down.

Twaun, what did you get Extirpated by? (Or rather, by what did you get Extirpated?)
Also, did anyone see any other Planar Chaos cards?
I played trip Extirpates in UB Fish and made Top 8. It was solid for me, I'd say. Certainly not format breaking, but strong. I Extirpated Ichorids and Nether Shadows for good game against Dread Returns Ichorid. I got to look at Norm's Slaver list to see what was going on and took Underground Seas and Flooded Strands (the Strands after I saw he had one in hand after Duressing). I took Tundras against UW Fish to leave him with three colored lands. I took something from him in the Swiss too that prevented him from keeping a lethal Jotun Grunt around, don't remember what, though.
It's a tool. I liken it a lot to Cabal Therapy. It's not format breaking, sometimes it's weak, but other times it's a game ruiner. I was really hoping to "counter" a topdeck tutor with it, but never did.
In my last games against UW Fish I left them in and I probably should have removed one or two or been more aggressive with them. For example, I should have counted when I Extirpated him in the swiss to find that he had four Flooded Strands and aimed for those.
Unless my deck was combo, I wouldn't have taken Force of Wills (please, two-for-one yourself by countering a 2/2 guy). Thirst could have been a decent choice, but one Thirst is all it takes sometimes. My first goal was to hit dual lands and colored sources with it, since I see that as the weak point in Vintage decks.
I'm using them again.
Edit: I forgot to mention... Before anyone says comparing Extirpate to Cabal Therapy is bad ("Cabal Therapy?! Who plays that besides Ichorid and MBC?"), I'm going to start playing Cabal Therapy now. The Dazes in my sideboard should have been Cabal Therapy. Extirpate + Therapy + Duress + Wasteland + Stifle = giggling uncontrollably.

W000000000tize..
The only reason I won this touranement is because reinforcements popped right before the top 8 in the form of JR hailing from team look at yourself in the mirror. He popped in, hyped man'd it up, did multiple LATR's and basically said the Brain cant lose with me hyping. And in fact, Brain gifts did indeed dominate the dojo, winning yet another moxen.
The picks are Awesome. How can i lose that game with JR behind me hyping like that? I can't.
I might take the lone regrowth out of the board but WILL NOT cut bob the builder. He is sooo insane turn 1. ETW and dimir jankpurse were like goggles all day long and never once did I feel the need to launch a warrens over / with a tendrils. V fish in the semi's burning wish for pyroclasm was G's.
Extripate does not seem to be as BRIZOKEN as everyone thinks. It stops many things especially Ichorid, but I did not see cause many problems for the other decks in the tourny.
Great tourny dave, Great pix, Great players, and most importantly... a great champion was crowned AGAIN. Hopefully come the 25th, someone can stop me

I got my Force of Will's Extripated round 1 in game 2 against Al's Grimlong deck. The picture that is posted in your blogger is game 1. I also got Extripated by Justin Dewey's mono black stax deck. I lost Force of Will, Thirst for Knowledge, and my Underground Sea's. That was in game 2 of match 4. Cool pics. I seriously can't wait for another one of these events. they are so fun.
