I had a few minutes to throw this up, and I'm not sure if Madmaniac is swamped or what, so...

Attendance was 20, prize support was made, in spite of SCG and it being one of the nicest days in recent memory.

T8:
Brian Phelon - Flash
Jon Allen - Ichorid
Nick Tourloukis - Flash>GAT
Caleb Rozwenc - Stax
Steve Houdlette - Bomberman
Jeff Greene - Bomberman
Andrew Hunter - GAT (?)
Ross Merriam - GAT

My rounds went -

Rnd 1, Ctthespian, Long
G1 - He mulligans and a tough misplay causes him to scoop to Mindcensor
G2 - I FoW an early Necro, and Sensei protects my counters from Duress long enough to pull it out

Rnd 2, Guy from TPS, Shop Aggro
G1 - 1st turn Juggs takes it home for him
G2 - Energy Flux ftw
G3 - a real nailbiter, which I think Salvagers took home with recurring explosives

Rnd 3, Billtheduck, Flash
G1 - I own with TMage > Lotus, wait til he combos > Mindcensor
G2 - He converts to Dryads and Tarmogoyf and beats down my t.crypts and meddling mages
G3 - I sideboard better, but he still takes it with beats

Rnd 4, Wethepeople, UW prison
G1 - I use salvagers to recur e.explosives my way out of a tight spot
G2 - I use seasinger to control the board, we go to time

Rnd 5, Hulk3rules, Flash
We draw, play about six games where he either mulligans into oblivion or beats me.

T8, Madmaniac, Stax
G1 - He makes a solid play by setting chalice at 1 instead of 2, smokestack cleans up
G2 - My deck works, and I roll him in short order
G3 - He topdecks strip mine for his crucible and I lose the game, 1 mana short of EFluxing him out of existence

Props
Madmaniac, for putting on a really fun time, and cleaning my clock in the T8
Opponents, everyone was pretty cool all day, it was good to meet friends old (billtheduck, his bro, phelon, etc) and new (wethepeople)
Dan Cunningham, his bomber list is extemely well put together.  my changes to his winning list were:

MD
-1 Gifts Ungiven
+1 Intuition

-1 Pithing Needle
+1 Merchant Scroll

-1 Plain
+1 Sensei's Top

SB
3x Honor the Fallen
3x Energy Flux
2x Meddling Mage
2x Seasinger
2x Tormod's Crypt
1x Trickbind
1x Rebuild
1x Pithing Needle

Slops
Madmaniac, for TD'ing strip mine
Chris K, for not making it
Feistein for succumbing to Seasinger and us not getting paired for the umpteenth time

Hey all, Jon allen here, figured I'd post a writup

2nd Place at hadley, AKA Luck Sacking with Ichorid

I based my list on Rich Shay’s list from Smennen’s article a few weeks ago
Here’s what I ran

4 Stinkweed Imp
4 Grave-troll
4 Golgari Thug
4 Street Wraith
4 Ichorid
4 Narcomoeba
4 Chalice of the Void
4 Leyline of the Void
4 Serum Powder
4 Bridge from Below
4 Cabal Therapy
4 Bazaar of Bahgdad
4 Dread Return
2 Cephalid Sage
2 Flame-kin Zealot
3 Dryad Arbor
1 Lion’s Eye Diamond

SB:
3 Emerald Charm
3 Reverent Silence
2 Bayou
2 Polluted Delta
2 Ancient Grudge
3 Darkblast

Notes: I love LED’s random sickness in this deck, so I made room. Also, I feel grudge is a neccesary answer to Platinum Angel, etc
Yes, the deltas should be foothills, and the darkblasts should be contagions

Round 1, Forgot to get his name, Intuition/AK tendrils? (I think)

Game 1, turn 2 win prevented by echoing truth, win turn 3.
Game 2, opposing leyline, reverent silence, tinker for platinum angel ruins it, as I didn’t board in grudges. I scoop
Game 3, win turn 3?4? Don’t really remember
1-0

Round 2, Andy Grimes with Sutured Ghoul Ichorid

Game 1, I get Leyline, he concedes because I run Dryad Arbors (lol)
Game 2, Both drop leylines, he destroys mine but has no bazaar, after several ichorid beats, I eventualy rip bazaar, dig to second bazaar, dig to bayou and emerald charm, drop LED and my hand (grave-troll), combo out one turn before I would have lost
2-0

Round 3, Dan something with UW Fish/Prison, interesting build, Grand Arbiter, Sphere, Glowrider, Mindcensor, Tinker for Titan

Game 1, no disruption, win turn 3
Game 2, Grunt ruins my start, thug chumps one turn, down to 4 life before he runs out of cards to put on the bottom. He stalls on 3 lands, his own sphere screws him over, allowing me to slowly recover, he gets one Mindcensor into play before I CT away 3 glowriders and 2 mindcensors. He crypts away a bunch of things, once, mabye twice, but I have 3 bridges in hand, dredge up two narcomoebas to go with 2 arbors, double CT with narcos to make zombies, begin beating with one arbor and six zombies into Trinket and Tinkered Titan, holding one arbor back. He chumps with trinket, removing my remaining bridges. I beat, he draws no answers, and I win with one card left in my library.
3-0

Round 4, Ross Merriam, GAT, paired down

I was looking to draw into the top8, but unfortunately got paired down
Game 1, win turn 3
Game 2, Reverent Silence countered, lose to Quirion Dryads.
Game 3, Reverent Silence countered, lose to dryads again
3-1

Round 5, Jeff Greene with Bomberman, paired down again

Again, looking to draw in, but not confident about making top8 by scooping, so we play it out
Game 1, I drop chalice and bazaar, chalice screws over his turn 2 win, I win
Game 2, I board in leyline removal, he DOESN’T HAVE LEYLINES. I misplay, fail to CT a needle that he fetches with trinket, lose to repeated crypting, mincensor beats
Game 3, lose close game to crypt and finally salvagers beats
3-2
Had I known his list, obv. I would have sideboarded differently

I end up squeeking into top 8 on tiebreakers

Top 8 Match, Ross Merriam, GAT, rematch

Game 1, He turn one cunning wishes for extirpate, extirpates my Bridges. I beat with Ichorids slowly, go through all 4 CT, and I win with 0 cards in library. One turn before I won, I correctly therapied his merchant scroll, so as not to lose to ancestral off scroll
Game 2, He mulls to 5, Leyline, FOW, Brainstorm, no land. Double reverent silence turn one is essentially GG after a few turns
4-2

Top 4 Match, Caleb Rozwenc with Stax

Game 1, Turn 3 win
Game 2, I don’t side in enchantment removal, lose to planar void (dumbass)
Game 3, Ridiculous start, bazaar, wraith, chalice, arbor, bayou, silence, emerald charm, grave-troll. Blow up planar void, win
5-2

Finals, Brian Phelon with Flash Hulk

I was pretty exhausted at this point, and my decision making showed it
Game 1, No leyline, for some reason I decided not to muligan to it. Turn 2 win for him
Game 2, For some reson I don’t board in Enchantment removal, but I have leyline and chalice. He quickly gets leyline, plays it. My only outs are dryad arbors to dread return what’s left in my yard, which ain’t much. Long game he hardcasts hulk, then eventually chain of vapor’s my leyline, combos out
5-3

I take the $65 for second, certainly good enough for my first vintage event

Thoughts on the deck:
I really like the deck, as it just forces your opponent to have answers or lose, much like Flash does. I definitely plan on running it again.
I think the sages need to go, I re-animated one once all day, and they were always the first cards out games 2 and 3. Very much a ‘win more’ card. I’d like to make room for Unmasks, so when I run this deck again, that’s the first change.

Props:
All my opponents, all great guys, it was great to meet people from the community
Tam for having a board meeting and thus being able to lend me cards
My deck, for feeding me bazaars all day with ridiculously few mulligans, and beaing nigh unbeatable game 1
My opponents again, for seeming to always cut to bazaar
Caleb for running a nice event, and Seth of X9 for saving a great store from closing down
Jeff Greene for essentially forcing me to start playing vintage

Slops:
Me for making a few really dumb mistakes both playwise and sideboarding
Chris K for not showing (weak Chris, just weak)

Hey, sorry for not posting this sooner. I drove straight to Boston from the Hadley tournament and basically didn't stop drinking till midday Sunday. So here's some more reporting:

I ended up having to start the tournament late as we only had about 13 people at noon. Eventually 6 other people show up and I get a call from Chris K telling me some family emergency came up and he won't be able to make it. I wait till 12:45 before I decide to play as well so I can pay out the full prize support. Turnout was 20 with some faces I've never seen before in addition to SCG of the same day, so I am definitely planning on holding another next month. Here's what I threw together in about 10 minutes to play as a joke. While walking around I saw lots of GAT/Flash, so it seemed like an ok choice.

Hadley Stax circa 2005

8 So/Lo/Mox/Crypt
4 Workshop
4 Gemstone Mine
3 City of Brass
3 Wasteland
2 Ancient Tomb
1 Strip Mine
1 Ghost Quarter
1 Bazaar of Baghdad
1 Barbarian Ring
1 Tolarian Academy

4 Tangle Wire
4 Chalice of the Void
3 Crucible
3 Smokestack
2 Sphere of Resistance
2 In The Eye of Chaos
1 Memory Jar
1 3Sphere

4 Goblin Welder
1 Sundering Titan
1 Triskelion
1 Plats

1 Ancestral
1 Intuition
1 Tinker
1 Balance
1 Demonic Tutor

Sideboard:
3 Chains of Meph.
2 T.Crypt
2 Ray of Rev.
1 Darkblast
1 R&R
3 Planar Void
1 Rule of Law
1 V. Heretic
1 Pyroclasm

Yeah, it was a real pile. I know smokestack is awful but it used to be good against GAT, so I was lazy and threw it in. The SB is some ass too.

Round 1: T1.5 turned T1 control.deck

He runs all sorts of questionable counters - counterspells, dissipate, etc - so I know I just have to get a welder to stick to win.

Game 1: Welder + Memory Jar Stick on turn 5 ends the game after my first 7 off jar is mox mox mox academy demonic ancestral strip mine.
Game 2: Chalice at 1 and then 2 ends it for him, I clean up with lock pieces.
1-0

Round 2: Brian w/ Pact Flash

I found Brian a deck the morning of the tournament as he doesn't own cards anymore, so I know what he's playing and how bad it is for me.

Game 1: Chalice 0 + Crucible Waste slows the game long enough for me to drop a stack and seal the deal.
Game 2: He draws his 7 and I tell him if he has it we can go to game three. He shows me Pact N., Pact S., land, mox, duress, flash, hulk. And that's a turn 1 win against pretty much anything.
Game 3: I open with chalice for 2, but he already has the combo in hand and is able to mystical up chain of vapor to win on turn 2.
1-1

Round 3: Andy with Ichorid

Game 1: He stomps me quick.
Game 2: Turn 1 Planar Void slows him long enough so I can win
Game 3: I mull for planar void and stall long enough to tinker for plats.
2-1

Round 4: Keith with his own Tendrils

Game 1: I've slowed the game down when he drops Null Profusion. It's all down hill from there for me.
Game 2: Chalice @ 0,1,2 within first two turns gives me more than enough time as he can't play anything to dig/tutor for rebuild.
Game 3: I mull to 6 on the draw. He opens Island go. I have mox crypt 3sphere crucible workshop gemstone as my 6 and draw strip mine turn 1. Who says stax can't play combo?
3-1

Round 5: Nick T with Flash (ID)
3-1-1

Top 8: Steve Houdlette with Bomberman.

Having been teamates forever we chat about the matchup. I tell him I have no clue what to do against Bomberman (somehow I've never played against it) and I've traditionally always been outplayed by Steve because ... well he's Steve. He's already written about it, but it took being a huge lucksack on my behalf to win game 3.

Top 4: Jon Allen with Ichorid

Another new friend/member of the Hadley Team through Jeff Greene. I've watched him stomp people all day with amazing draws, and he proceeds to do the same to me, not having to mull once for bazaar.. Game 3 gave me turn 1 planar void and turn 3 tinker-->platz, but he had the reverant and the grudge.

More importantly, what you've been waiting for, the lists:

1st Brian Phelon w/ Flash

4 Hulk
1 Feeder
1 Snatcher
1 Karmic
1 ESG
1 Kiki Jiki

4 Flash
4 Brainstorm

*lol* No, I saw the list, but had no interest in it whatsoever. The deck I played was UW Fish, yet played very much like Stax. It is unfortunate that I did so poorly on the deck's debut, but I can honestly blaime my results on both bad luck on my part, and great luck on my opponent's. (Ridiculous topdecks, one-land-hands, and many very very close games). There were a few times when I looked back at my previous turns and realized a few very minor misplays that would have been difficult to see before, yet after reviewing the situations once again, the correct play rarely would have much relevence at all the the state of the game. The list I played was what I ended up throwing together Friday night, but isn't exactly what I would consider best.

Congradulations Steve on your finish. I look forward to playing you again sometime.

Also, I must thank Caleb for holding the tournament. Overall, it was a great time, and can't wait for the next.

This tournament was a ton of fun and I strongly recommend people coming out for the next one.

Me and GI an played Identical list of Bomberman and we both top8ed so it did its job.  I brutally lost to Bill the Duck's build of flash in the first round of top 8.  The new list played very well.  As for our changes I don't think I cast Intuition all day, but in theory it gets the combo just as well as gifts and can also let you tutor up a salvager or even a  force in a tight spot.  I found top good but only situationally, although all the targets of mage are.  This deck seems to have gotten much better with other drains disappearing from the format and would recommend it to anyone looking to pick up control.

This whole thing was a great time. I hadn't played in a long time and it was great to see old friends. If any of you guys are going to be going to any other weekend tournaments this summer, I'll go if I'm free (which all but 3 weekends, I am).

The list I played could have been more efficiently put together, but I thought the concept, at least (the heavier card draw w/ conversion sideboard) was a good idea and worked as planned. My only match loss was to Phelon in the top 4 (good old times) where his counter and combo volume helped him race me. If I could do it again with all the cards I couldnt find/didnt have I would have played black with the duals main (people used to play a card called wasteland) and fit togs into the board.

If there's another hadley tournament this summer (or ever) people should definitely make the trip down. Its a lot of great guys and Ill come again for sure.
