Who's down for an Ice Age Block event? I'll run it and we'll do it online. Since I can't handle lots of people or waiting on folks to get done, I'll be limiting it to the first eight people who post here and say that they are interested.

When you post, you'll have one week (till midnight next Tuesday) to PM me your decklist. If you don't, the ninth person on the list will take your place. So if there are eight people already calling dibs, it probably wouldn't hurt to put your name up if you'd be ninth or tenth.

I would imagine that players would contact each other and decide whether they wanted to use MWS or Appr to play. So here's the rules:

You've got 3 days to finish your best-of-3 match. If you don't play, who knows, I'll probably give both players a draw.

We'll be playing round robin so folks have a good chance to get some games in.

I don't think security codes and stuff are necessary since anyone who would cheat at casual OBVIOUSLY touches their own butt.

For reference: Ice Age Block is Ice Age, Alliances, Coldsnap. The banned cards are Amulet of Quoz (LOL), Timmerian Fiends (LOLOL), Thawing Glaciers and Zuran Orb.

Will you run Olle's spiders? Buy into the power of Necropotence? Will you find something especially potent in Coldsnap?

Oh SNAP !!     pun intended!

So, decks are due by the 14th, and the play-time ends at 11:59 on the 17th?  If thats the plan then I'm totally in! However, I will be on vacation on the 18th ... off on a tropical island, far away from any sort of Internet.

I must get the chance to defend the honor of Chaos Harlequin    >.>

Nope, no Homelands. Hopefully Snap is a better set than it!

I'm totally interested.  I would prefer using the mws format.  To my knowledge, this is the first real experiment of this block.  But did they really trash the hell out of the homelands set when they realesed coldsnap? lol

Now that I saw the banned cards,  why did they ban Orb??  because of necro lifegain?

Zorb and Glaciers drew games out gosling long. Any deck could run Zorb and gain up 14 life or whatever. It resulted in lots of draws because it was free and stuff. Compare it to Troubled Healer in Masques, which was just about as big a blowout. You'd convert some lategame draw into life.

I think the interaction with Necro was noticed, but they cared more that you could run a Zorb or two in any deck and it distorted the game once it hit.

EDIT: Preliminary testing with Necro decks makes me think that they are huge blowouts when combined with Soul Spike. I'm considering banning Necro, since the metagame would turn into anti-Necro decks and it can win out of nowhere with Soul Spike, Soul Spike, feed 8 life into Necro, Demonic Consultation for another Soul Spike, gg.

I kinda second that motion.  I'll do a bit more testing, but Necro-Soulspike seems like the deck to beat at the moment.  Splashing white for Martyr of Sands and some beats (Grunt) seems pritty savage.

COP:Black doesn't even work against Soulspike ...

Also if we are modifying the Ban List ... do we want to have a discussion about Thawing Glacier?  I don't see why with Zorb Banned and with Glacier errataed with substance, Thawing Glacier is so crazy that it's ban worthy.    In the interest of full disclosure, I will say that Thawing Glacier has synergy with Chaos Harlequin Wink

Run the banned-list as is, and then if it warps, run another tournament with a new banned list.

EDIT: Necro is in the format. I like Anusien's suggestion of taking it out if it's really warping. The more I look at it, the more I see ways to punch holes in the deck, from Ronom Unicorn to Yavimaya Ants to Royal Decree.

Sounds like fun!  Ill PM my decklist later.

BTW, this may be the only format in existence where 4x Consultation + 4x Ritual + 4x Necro != wacky brokeness.   Wink

Well it'll mill your library, so name stuff with reckless abandon if you'd like : )

Also, clearly the best call there is Island of Wak-Wak.

If there are less than eight players by next week, I'll fill in, but I'd really like to just run it this time because I'll have people's decklists too and that's not fair!

I'm in kind of a bind here about how to run it, as 8 people playing round robin means there will be 7 rounds x 3 days to do it = 3 weeks before the next one : \ I can bump it up to 12 people (hopefully another person will sign up!) and we can do like 3-4 rounds of swiss. That way, someone doesn't get saddled with a deck they realize sucks and have to play it five more times against people.

Do we have one more volunteer to sign up? I'll jump in if, at the end of Tuesday night, we don't have a 12th.

Also, does 12 people make for a possible 4 rounds of swiss? Math is hard.

12-16 players are 4 rounds.

Wondering how many people are playing Necro decks and how many are playing anti-Necro decks.

Oh I've found at least two decks that completely annihilate Necropotence while retaining awesome game against other stuff I've tried. It should be wide open!

If you need exactly one more player, I can jump in, but I won't have much time to play.

Edit: looks like you got some other people.

Oh, wow!

I'd be open to getting stomped by some TMD big-shots!  Ice Age block has a special place in my heart.  It seems you have enough people, but if a second pod opens or a second iteration of this tourney is to be held I am in!  I have the time.
