It doesn't look like he has a history of buying or selling Magic cards. Selling a single deck is a fairly unusual way to get rid of cards. I can only hope that it's not a stolen deck.
Otherwise I guess it looks pretty safe. His feedback looks real and he has at least a decent grasp of magic itself.

There are only so many players who would have that sort of collection who play Type 1 and live in NY. Any guesses?

This is completely bizarre. Why wouldn't you break down the deck and sell individual components? Either this person is really bad at economics or the deck is hot or significant portions are fake. When things seem too good to be true, they usually are.

Doesn't seem fake at all.. look at the pictures. You can clearly make out the foils and betas. Good feedback too. Maybe this guy just really needs the cash, who knows.

What, are you the guy who listed that auction? It definitely feels a bit fishy. It's not enough to go HA! Obvious fraud! but enough that I'd hesitate to drop several thousand dollars on it. If I'm spending that much money on something I'd want to be positive that what I'm getting is the real deal. I'd want close ups of the other 90% of the deck, and probably the backs of the power cards just to start with. My best guess is still that the deck is stolen. There's really no other good reason to sell a deck all at once like that. If he were getting out of the game you'd think he'd sell his entire collection. If he just needed the cash, he'd probably just sell the power. There isn't a good reason to sell only a single deck. Why save half a collection minus power?

I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to list a stolen deck on ebay. That's pretty dumb. If you don't like it, don't bid. The cards are 100% legit

The auction seems shady to me because of the presentation, if nothing else. If *I* were to sell this deck, I would at least use some sort of wrap around text formatting and not some MWS c/p'd list. Oh and mint beta lotus? Anybody who's owned a MINT beta lotus knows that it's worth substantially more than a non-mint one. Especially knowing that most beta lotus didn't even come out of the packs at PSA 10. How could you not sell it individually after getting it graded. I don't get it.
This deck is more than likely hot, my guess.

Economics of the situation:
Let's say I want a set of Beta. I can't bid on this because there's infinite other cards that I don't want that will drive the price up.
Let's say I want a set of Grim Tutors. Again, I can't bid on it because I don't have the cash or the time to resell everything else.
Consider that I *do* have the cash for all of the cards and I want them all. That would probably make me a dealer. There are not many other people who have the money to float on this and are willing to break it down again, so I'll probably get it cheaply.
How does this add up for the seller? You have very few people actually bidding on it and you'll undoubtedly get less money for it than if you broke it down or even sold the whole thing to, say, SCG. You're going to get killed on Paypal and Ebay fees. This turns into one of three situations:
1. You really need the money and you don't care how much you get killed on it. In this case, why not just sell the whole thing to SCG?
2. You are an idiot and don't realize you're not going to get the money that you want from it. In this case, you should probably take the money from selling your cards and buy a deck of Uno because it doesn't require the brainpower that Magic, or daily functioning life, requires.
3. It's stolen, fake, hot, misrepresented or something otherwise fishy. The cost of buying some foils to make an auction look legit when you're going to sell someone an entire fake set of beta isn't that much at all. English foil Brainstorms are $40, if that, and the other foil cards are probably real but also not worth a lot of money. Heck, you can even be selling real Grim Tutors.
If your red flag doesn't go up when you see an auction of pristine Beta Seas and mint Beta power sold in this fashion, I don't know what to say to you.

doug: this sort of thing is actually common.
You set up a huge auction with all of the items that doesn't ever meet your reserve and then you break the collection apart and sell it separately.
Think of it as $4 for free marketing.

Think of it as $4 for free marketing. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

If it's not stolen, advertising was going to be my 2nd best guess as an Econ major.

This post here seems to suggest to me that this is Mox Hoarder's auction. The presence of the Seas is what makes it seem more likely.

Hi everyone, this is the owner of the auction. Mox hoarder is a good friend of mine, and since I don't usually post on this site, he let me use his account to make this post. I just want to take this opportunity to say that I stand behind my cards 100% and the cards are real. I also have references: the names of dealers I obtained cards from, etc.. and I play on mws regularly as the user "Mox.Fox". Good luck bidding, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
