You can find the original announcement here. 32 of New England's best Vintage players arrived at Stillpoint Comic's new location in Fall River for my 8th event. This new venue featured tons of space, and I look forward to having another event with Stillpoint in the coming months. Thank you to everyone who showed, especially the crews from Hadley and New Hampshire. It's that kind of dedication that makes New England the best place in the world for Vintage. I know it's a hike for many players, and I put in a lot of effort to make sure that the drive down is worth it. Part of that effort is giving every player a hand made limited edition ELD Proxy. These proxies do not count towards the proxy limit in my events, or at Myriad Games. I also did some custom modifications for players who pre-registered at least a week a head of time. and links to some of my favorite custom requests Imperial BrassmanMyriad SealEmpire's Seal (Starwars)We took a vote at this event for my next proxy, and Bazaar of Baghdad edged out Mishra's Workshop for the win. Bazaar looks to be the most intricate card I've done to date. I look forward to the challenge. Congratulations to Ryan Marek, winner of the Pre-Registraion Foil Mishra's Workshop. I will be making only 4 of these as door prizes. This is #2 of 4. IMAGE REQUESTED With 32 players, we were able to bump up the prize support. With all of my events, the prizes scale with the attendance, the better the prizes. 1st Mox Sapphire2nd Signed Mana Drain3rd Playset of 4x Force of Wills4th Choice Foil Tarmogoyf, Foil Damnation, Foil Platinum Angel, or Foil Tinker5th-8th got the boost from extra attendance. The prizes more than doubled to choice from such goodness any Dual Land, Force of Will, Foil Steam Vent, or 2x the normal prizes of Vintage goodness or ELD Proxies After the swiss we had quite a few tournament veterans at the front of the pack. Andy Probasco's streak of success with GAT extended to make him the leader going into the Top 8. Oliver Beaumont demonstrated again why he is one of the best Bomberman players in the world. Stefan showed why Empty Gifts will be a contender in the coming months. Bill Copes, who has put up solid results consistently at both my events and at Myriad, was a comforatable 4th place with Stax. Robert Moreau surprised everyone by showing us that Landstill is able to make Top 8 in the current meta if piloted well. Ray Robillard continued his success at my events with his trademark Staxless Stax. Micah Greenbaum proved that his win at my last event was no fluke, playing his Gush Tendrils to victory over Dan Yarrington's Mountains in the final round of swiss for the 7th seed. Shane Burke took the 8th spot with his well rounded Stax list featuring Mindslaver. The Top 8 would see tournament experience prevail, as Andy Probasco, Bill Copes, Ray Robillard and Oliver Beaumont won their matches and agreed to a Top 4 Split. Congratulations to the Top 8 and thank you to everyone who made this another successful event. Below are the standings after swiss. Thanks for hosting yet another enjoyable tourney. I had a swell time and did well, despite arriving hung over as the dickens. The other guys had it worse than me, though. I'm glad I left Steve's at 3:00.
Quickie report-esque thing:
Round 1 - Mirror - Joseph Bernier: I win 2-1 in a well fought match up. I think I got crushed game one, but came back swinging games two and three. The only highlight I remember is trapping him under his own trinisphere after I Keg'd away his board of moxen. Joseph was a great opponent and it would be a pleasure to play him again in the future.
Round 2 - Staxless Stax - Ray Robillard: I win 2-1 in an even tougher matchup. Ray does his "I've been playing shops since forever" thing and tar and feathers me game one. I get to play first, game two. We both have solid starts that I do not remember the details thereof. I do remember he drops a welder the turn after I drop a seemingly useless mindslaver, but it is followed up for a vamp tutor that nets me a tolarian academy the next turn, to activate the slaver. I then do some really mean stuff to Ray with his own cards. Game three I don't really remember very well, other than anytime I needed an answer to something, I either had it in hand or drew it immediately. This is the third time we've played each other and I'm happy I finally won a match against him. I think Ray is probably the best shop player in New England, a super swell and incredibly outstanding fellow (probably the U.S.) -- I'm glad I have the opportunity to play in the same events as he.
Round 3 - Gush Tendrils - Micah Greenbaum - Draw - 1-1: This is my third meeting with Micah and he's incredibly fun to play against, very competitive and a nice chap to boot. During this match we used my deck box as the stack, and I had to put anything I played "on the stack" before Micah allowed it to resolve. Hella amusing. I locked him out game one with multiples spheres and chalices and junk. Game two I got tendrillieded. An amusing portion of this game was the fact that he misdirected my mid-game ancestral -- the funny part being that just the turn before he realized he misboarded and forgot to remove the misdirection. I love when that kind of thing happens -- one of the highlights of my day. Game three was very back and forth and drawn out and we went to time just as I had him locked out. I got down sundering titan, but he only had time to swing once. Apparently this was one of the many hundred thousand match draws during the day.
Round 4 - GAT - Andy Probasco - I lose 1-2: Before the match we discuss whether or not we should draw, seeing that he is at the top of the tourney foodchain. However, despite whether or not we draw, I would have to play the next round to get in anyway, so we play it out. Boy was I terrified, and with good reason. Game one, Andy takes me outside and curb-stomps me with 2 dryads first turn. I also have a super duper snazzy first turn play of shop, mox, crypt trike. I think I am the shit for about 3 seconds when he forces the trike. Next two turns I think I have time to vamp for a balance, but unfortunately he timewalks into my death. Game two, I forget the logistics, but I plowed a threat or two and jester's cap'd out the rest. Game three is mostly forgotten again, but I do know that he beat me good. This match was a great learning experience for me, especially playing against one of the best. Kudos for your performance, Mr. Probasco.
Round 5 - Empty Gifts - Justin Timoney - I win 2-0: I felt bad about this one because there wasn't any player interaction at all and it was over way too quickly. I felt especially bad because I was just drinking with this guy the night before and had a hell of a good time. Bullshit wins = no fun. . . even if you're the one capitalizing from the situation. I'm sure we'll play again and it'll be mo' fun -- probably with Justin deservedly kicking my ass. Anyway, the match consisted of a number of spheres of resistance coming down both games. I forget the actual victories, because I only remember how unfun this was for both of us. I owe you beer.
Top 8 - Landstill - Robert Moreau - I win 2-1: Another match against a party goer from the night before. We had a good time playing a few games the previous evening. He took it easier than the rest of us and didn't show up to the tournament still drunk. A wonderful idea on his part and it shows by him making the top 8... that and being a talented player. This was one of the most intense matches of the day. A lot of details are fuzzy. I won game one. Don't remember how, but it took a while and it happened. Game two he had tons of answers, got standstills down and beat me down with factories. Game three I got to play first again. It was very back and forth and Rob had a lot of answers to my plays. I had crucible / strip / waste going after a while and that eventually sealed the deal. I hope we get to play again in the future, you're a great opponent.
Top 4 - Split - Thank goodness. I would have lost to the next guy for sure. I was beat.
Thanks to everybody who showed up and extra thanks to all of my opponents -- I'm grateful to get to play against the best of the best. See y'all next month.

I'm the only other legal target, so I draw 6 cards, and he literally quits Magic. Terrorists searching in vain for these powerful weapons have the saying "Bill Copes spitteth, and he taketh away." Team TMD

RIP Mogg Fanatic...at least you are still better than Fire Bowman!!!
I was once asked on MWS, what the highest I ever finished at a TMD Open was. I replied, "I've never played in a Waterbury. I was then called "A TOTAL NOOB!"

If you are Stefan Ellsworth then your list misses 2 more cards. I guessed Lotus Petal (or Mox Pearl) and Sol Ring.

This was a really good tourny. glad we made the trip. unfortunatly due to an excessive amount of drinking the night before most of us werent at our top game. between speed quarters, hooka and 2 drunks having loud sex that night not much sleep was to be had. had a great time. hope to attend in the future.

I just want to thank Eric for holding the tournament and everyone for making the trip to Stillpoint. This was my first type one tournament since well before alliances so thanks for everyone for helping me out and giving me advise, I really appreciate it.
