Help with video editing

Hey, over the past few weeks I've been doing some real basic filming of friends, and was wondering what software is good for editing. This is all for fun, so I am mainly interested in just using a free program for now. I am only looking at a minute or two in video length. I know how to upload them onto my computer, just piecing them together is my problem. Any suggestions?
