28 people. 30 was neccessary for the 3rd place prize to be given out, so someone got the bright idea of everyone chipping in a buck or two for two "phantom players" to get the prize upped.

A crew of three (I think it was three, but only learned the names of two of 'em) came up from Ventura (SoCal, as opposed to NorCal, a 400+ mile drive)! Whoot!

Top 8 after five rounds of Swiss:

1 Luis Scott-Vargas (Gush Storm)  (Quite Possibly Tropical Storm)
2 Cory Redmond (Mono-red Aggro Shops)
3 Daniel Kaltenbach (URW Bomberman) - Austin's ETW Tech supplanted by Daneil and another player. Whoot!)
4 Junior Cervantes (Oath of Noobs)
5 David (Webster) Ochoa (Gush Storm) (probably the same as LSV's deck)
6 Dylan Pascual (RG Beats)
7 Austin Martinez (URW Bomberman)
8 JeffTheFob Huang (TarmoGat I expect)

Luis vs Fob -Luis Wins!
Cory vs Austin - Austin Wins!
Daniel vs Dylan - Daniel Wins!
Junior vs Webster - Webster Wins!

Luis vs Webster - Webster Wins!
Austin vs Daniel - Austin Wins!

Finals: Webster vs Austin - Webster Wins!
for 3rd/4th place: Daniel vs Luis - Luis Wins!

Prizes:
Web - Mox Jet
Austin - Mishra's WorkShop
Luis - Library at Alexandria (or was it a Bazaar?)
Daniel - Volcanic Island and Misdirection

Great event! Great games!
More details, lists, pics to come.

Pics First! Lists Later!*

*New Theory: TMD readers won't mind if I posted pics of their decklists and find it easily readible.
People like say, Tobi from www.Morphling.de , who actually enter in tourney results in a fine websiite for all see have no trouble utilizine my easy to me cut/paste/post approach to deck lists.  If any reader/fan/TOBI out there would rather have typed up lists for easy cut/paste/printout, just let me know (publically here, or by PM or in person) and I will gladly type out all lists.  I do these reports for TMD readers without pay or obligation, but for love of MTG and the Vintage Format (Drafting is pretty cool too, but just so EXPENSIVE compared to Vintage 10 Proxy Tournies! Weird.)

Here goes top lists:

There was one pic of an R/G Beats decklist that I forgot to take a pic of.  It was turned in with a Lorwin (or 10th Ed or whatnot) Theme Deck Strategy Decklist Insert with some cards shapried out and "SkullCLamp x4" and "Black Lotus" sharpied in.  Classic.

Enjoy.

Austin hustlin' up some scratch for entry fee and a few packs of smokes, out of LotusHead's Trade Binder. (LotusHead=out of smokes too)

Wide Shot of friends and foes.

Stax vs budget WarTax.Ertai Wizard or something.dec.  When stax finally gets an actual STRIP MINE in play, in yard, in play, in yard, those twelve basic Islansd stop being so funny.  We all start somewhere.

Roy from Ventura vs Dr. Tongue from Sactown playing Uno, at least as far as I can tell by the lighting in this pic.

Don't know what's going on here, but both players are great guys. I've lost to both in close and not so close games.
Both can get extremely "stressed" in a "no poker face" kind of way.  Jeff's is "my God, I must make the right play, and if I do, I will save the world!(ie, my place in standings) and Joe's can get extremely "My God, I must make the right play, for if I do not, my opponent will pwn me with the diametrically opposed answers metagamed specifically to hose my deck and all will be lost!". In both cases, each are correct!

When UBG decks collide.  Goyf on Goyf is all I'm pretty sure of.

Eirik battling through Bob's Dazes Stifles Goyf's Will's Walks' DuressSeizure's and lack of permanent superiority.

Ventura on Ventura Action Baby, (bow cha ka wohwn whowhn, wow wow!) (or, I drove 400 miles for this?)
Hopefully, I don't have pics screwed up.  Double Leyline vs Flash clued me in.

Protean Hulk Beatdown encumbered by Contagion Counters.

Aisian Pimp Ichorid w/Real Bazaar of Baghdads!

Dr Tongue is resolving "Which of Austin's Yu-Gay-Oh playmat things to block or respond to?"

Some things are too cool. Like FlyFishing Fastbond Guy

I don't know what the hell this pic is, but something is sure going on!

MY first WebPic of the day. His crew (Eirik Luis Web Jeff) got paired up against each other a lot through the day.  This was the first game I saw him play (and he DID play other teammates throughout the tourney. see Top 8 results. Thiose were not imaginary.)

Junior, getting PWNED by LotusHead after Junior refuses to scoop to LotusHead even though every card in Junior's deck (minus proxy power and 2 maindeck REMAND) are owned by LotusHead, Junior never got there, done that (IE, won a tourney). He also has inside information that LotusHead's 9BalllStax deck has ZERO Oath  SB hate cards beyond MD Mindslaver Recursion or UBERSHOPLUCKSACKWINDIEROLLLOC KDOWNBIATCH opening hand.  What a punk.

There many plays after this, but most of those involved Junior NOT time Walking, Oath, TimeWalking (via reclaim), Oath (ok, no Oath), GAEA'S BLESSING INTO TIME WALK BEAT AGAIN GO "Oh, I'm sorry, you don't get to untap if you are DEAD" "Go..."

Luis VS Fob (Multiple "power cards" are on the line and I am very pleased these two played it out.  Unlike Junior (who got paired UP against me, a 7 pointer against a 9 pointer).

Bomberman vs Taiga's and Kird Apes.  Doh!

Junior enjoying a mainphase vs Webster.  Junior's Top 8 prize? KUDOS FOR MAKING TOP 8! Here's your door prize of a Goblin Warchief!

Wrong finger, dude.

Type 1: Vintage: Duress (scribble scribble scribble on notes)

Austin, Loosing vs MonoRAggroShops.  Then again, all pics of Austin looked like he was loosing to Aggro Shops.

Austin shitting his pants again.

Junior: What now you fat bastard, I mean, Mr. Ochoa Sir? Junior lost 0-2

Lemme see here. I got two balls in my face and I'm playing Bomberman...Hmmmm...go. (gulp)

Dylan (right) "Hmm. I'm supposed to rape you all tier 1 decks.  DAMN YOU TIER 1.5!!!!

Thank you sir, may I have another? Says Junior vs Ochoa.  As faithful readers might note, Junior is on Team Vacaville (LotusHead's "Team", but does not post here, so I can comment on his hummiliation anyway I want! Mwah HA HA!!! HA HA!!!!)

Cody's Balls in Austin's FACE.  Austin ducks dodges and tumbles so that Cody misses (IE: Cody lost die roll to Mana Crypt more often than his Vanilla Duplicant swung with 5 spheres out). (IT WAS FIVE...)

Web needs a "Kill You via StormCount Theme Song". Any suggestions???

Tendrils for 4 total with layline out? and I'm at 11? Ok, bastard....
Web goaded (without saying anything ever ) to get Junior to crank out Spirit Monkeys as Win Conditions.  At some point, Junior Dug for Echoing Truth, but Web finished before Junior could do anything (other than tap orchard for tokens)

Luis vs Webster. Fascinating match.  Not because they are playing it out (all their team did this time, which is different than most/many times).
Turns out, Web Beat Luis, but both are playing Tropical Storm or GushStormdec (or these are the same).

Duress.DOH!

Daniel with about 3 more land drops than he wanted to see (to Austin's suprize. or not.  Austin might not have even noticed is Suprize was missspelled.)

Austin: Broken Broken no...: KEEP! Fukin Sheet! (on the draw...)

Dainel: Yeah, my shit is broken, but I don't feel safe whatsoever. I'm a gonna die, right? pass the turn? (Turn 1 Tinker for Colossus AND Time Walk resolved. Luis TimeWalked and found an answer and won like a sack.

So I-Seal is your play post FOrce Gush into your Mystical's Tendrils for lethal? Really? (expletive deleted). Austin hasn't made progress towards 1 mainphase yet, except for a Jar Fueled Force on something or other...)

I considred capturing a pic of all the players involed laughing/having fun, and all the bystanders laughing having fun, but this is what I got.

random pic of LotusHead christened by his favorite enchantment evar!

That's a start. More to come.

Good job on another MWS for your Vacaville crew there, Lotushead. Will you break up the Vroman proxies to play the 3rd? Smile I don't mind the decklists, you guys know you can print those deck reg. lists right from the internet right?  Wink

I scrubbed up a 2-2-1 record taking 15th with storm combo with DSC.

Rd. 1 playing vs. Ventura crew Roy with Ichorid (eww)

Nice guy with some pimp ass cards. Damn I hate the Asian foils sometimes when you'd like to read a cards text. Game 1 he dumps 1/2 his yard the first couple turns and I'm trying to set up Twister to wreck his party and I do but draw 3 fast mana (chalice @ zero out) and no lands off my Twister and Bazaar dumps his stuff eventually again. I finally scoop with like 30 minutes gone by in that first game it seems (and it's not over YET but it's not remotely salvagable).

Game 2 I bring in my Crypt's cuz I'm a scrub and expect NO ICHORID and very little Flash at all. Opening hand gets me Crypt plus Sol/Land/Force/something else/Merchant for Recall available for turn 2. He starts with Leyline in play. He makes me use my Crypt early when Cabal Therapy gets dumped in his yard and Narco is dredged on his second turn upkeep. Can't have him take my Recall. I cast a billion spells (well 14 including a Time Walk) one turn trying to find Tendrils or a Tutor for it. I topdeck it on my Time Walk turn..I cast Tinker for DSC and the Tendril's for 16 to leave him at 4 and wait to beat. He has his epic Ichorid turn and can't find an answer, or enough chump blocker's. We end game 2 tied at 1 game apiece and time has been called already...

DRAW 1-1 for 50 minutes of playing

Admittedly I'm not happy, I think I can combo out quicker than his deck but the amount of time isn't enough to determine it. I rant a tad with Lotushead for a quick smoke and meanwhile pairings are already up....Damn I hate going to time you forget stuff sometimes...

Rd2 vs. "Sorry bro I forgot your name, we've played before I think but the SB error put a damper on my mental fortitude"
Deck check! Well it seems I get a small reprive between rounds anyway's,yay. But it won't be fun at all as I've left my SB'ed Duress on top of my SB that I took out for the Ichorid match. I took out my SB'ed cards from the main but left the mainboard cards with the SB as I forget to thumb thru my SB as I usually do between rounds to make sure they're right.

Game 1 loss.

Game 2 no SB. He stifle's my turn one fetchland and I die. My notes for the round are: Stifle Fetch Dead

0-1-1

At this point I'd have to win vs. all 3 of my remaining rounds and hope to have some luck to get into T8

Rd 3 vs Jon Archer who had to go with a T2 deck
Well not exactly the way you want a win bt w/e

1-1-1

Rd4 vs Austin with Savagers
He wins game 1 battle of attrition with Salvagers eventually coming into play next turn so I scoop.
Game 2 I wind up Tendrils of Agony-ing him to 1 life with his Mana Crypt sealing the deal
Game 3 he Tinker's up a Colossus and I wind up having Merchant but am one mana shy for Echoing at that point and I should probably think about Chain of Vapor over Echoing as it would have saved me there if I'd have had it.

1-2-1

Rd5  Bob with Goyf's/Daze/Stifle/Duress/Thoughtseize deck
2-0 in the final round although we both know we aren't close to T8 at that point and if it was for T8 it might have not played out the same perhaps.

2-2-1

Had fun just the same I suppose. I just hate being down early in the rounds especially with my own stupid blunder that put me in that position. Oh well, live and learn. I guess I'm still a bit of a Vintage noob when it comes to IRL games as opposed to the intraweb.

Props to Jet for letting me use my altered KMJ card and for running the late starting tourney quickly with so many players involved. Props to the peeps who came so far as well, hope the Vintage scene up here gave you more of a challenge.

My mini-report:

Round 1: Ricky with Storm I win Die Roll of who rolls the highest prime factor of the number that a D20 gives.  He got 3 (3) and I got 15 (5)
Game 1 I knew he was playing storm, and my first 7 was land land land wasteland Solring Welder and some Stax artifact.
This won't do, so I mull into nothing
I mull into nothing
I mull into Tolarian Academy, Sol Ring, Wasteland, Thorn/Sphere.
Waste/S.Ring/Sphere resolve
3 turns later he Hurkl's me, and plays Yawg Will.

Game 2:
I get smokeStack out (with Welder active).  He Chains it and I am stuck with Welder on field.  I lay a bunch of spheres (probably 3 of 'em) and he gets Bob out.  I consider playing Draw Go untill I can discard a Trike (I had tapped Mana Vault out), but I draw some semi-juicy stuff like Strip Mine and play it, but I don't draw real land sources and I get beat in by double Bob beatdown. Sad

ROund 2:
Michael Painter and his shitty Proxies (Mono-Red Aggro Shops) He scooped to a teammate round 1. I win roll in the semi-mirror
Game 1: I play Lotus, Welder, Mana Vault, SmokeStack.
This proves too much.
Game 2: I get 2 crucibles to his three, plus a Viashino Heretic which makes his life very diffucult. (he saw 3 crucibles, many shops and factories, even a welder (TRIKE!), but our match lasted 15-20 minutes.  GG

Round 3:
??? Dale? Bomberman
This guy is a regular at the shop, but not a vintage Guru.  His recent interest has been from watching Team Vacaville test there on fridays, and being old-school enough to have most non-power staples of Vintage (plus a Black Lotus).  He settled on a URW Bomberman build similar to Austin's build
Game 1: I get Sphere w/o force disruption. Then another, then SmokeStack, then Crucible. You know, Stax Stuff.
Game 2: He misplays a bunch with his inexperience in IRL Vintage (but we've all been there), but his deck is broken enough to kill me anyways with double Trinket Beats and Goblin token beats. GG
Game 3: I have a turn 1 Tinker play, but I went first, so S.Titan wouldn't do much, and Trini, while nice, isn't worth demolishing my field over if he had the force. (my hand was B.Lotus, Tolarian, Mox, City, Tinker, Wasteland, random card). On turn 2 I could tinker and keep Lotus in play.
His turn 1: Tinker for DSC.
My turn 2: Tinker for Duplicant.
His turn2 : nothing
My turn 3-4: Beatdown.

Whoot!

Round 4:
Jared playing ???
Game 1: I win die roll, get chalice for 0 and Sphere down turn 1 (I think).
10 turns later, after I get a bunch of stuff Smokestacked, he has discarded DSC, YWill, Gifts, and other stuff.  He scoops before I play a real threat. (no active stack/crucible at this time)
Game 2: I keep hand of Black Lotus, Land, Sphere, Thorn, Crucible, Trinispere maybe, etc.
He duresses my Lotus away. I rip Shop off the top and lay Locks.
I rip 2nd shop off top and lay more locks.
Eventually, I have Factory beats. Lucky topdeck I had. Smile
(Apparently, his hand had UBER HATE until I ripped shop off the top...)

Round 5: Junior (Oath of Noobs)
We are teammates, but he knew that Austin was making it in if he won his current round (as all three of us were), but he and I had to duke it out.  Oh, and as Junior was piloting the only Oath deck on the field, and knew I swapped my 3 potentially ANTI Oath cards out for 3 ANTI Aggro cards, he knew he could toss me like a cheap salad.  He did. Congrats Junior!

In the last round, I faced one of two decks I didn't want to face: Ichorid and JuniorOath. Doh! 3-2 is alright I guess. I had fun! (and won a Misdirection as a door prize! Whoot!)

After playing SuperLong at the mox ruby tournament in Dublin, I decided that I wanted to shift gears a little bit and look for a deck that was less clunky. I put together TheTropicalStorm (hereafter refered to as TTS) in hopes that the gushbond engine which is incorperated in it would provide a more dynamic gameplay.

I was heading up to Davis to stay with some friends beforehand so I had to narrow down what I would end up playing a few days sooner than I would have liked to. I goldfished TTS about 60-80 games and liked the feel of the deck. It certainly provided what I was looking to improve upon from the previous list that I used.

I talked with Eric Becker a bit theorizing on possible sideboard strategies and made a few changes to the initial list in the TTS thread in the open forum which have already been noted in this thread.

Like I said, I came up early to hang out with some friends. One night we went to this burger place in Davis. For any people in that area, I recommend going there. "Burgers and Brew" has all of the good qualities that I look for in a resataurant: ambience, service, food quality, prices, hours. They're open til 3AM Thursday-Sunday which makes it the perfect place to eat after a tournament that's gone late.

My swiss rounds were not very interesting and I don't remember all of the details.

Round 1: Ichorid

Game 1: I am on the draw and keep lotus, sea, duress, necro, + stuff. He serum powders his 7, mulls to 6, keeps and does what ichorid does. He also plays LED t1. I don't bother duressing him since keeping the sea untapped for brainstorm/mystical/vamp off my necro cards would be better. I necro for 10-12; something like that. His turn 2, he dredges golgari thug, plays bazaar #2, cracks LED, dredges, and says he's going to take mana burn. Sure ok. Nice magic deck, etc. Then he therapys me 4 times (missing once), dread returns a 25/25 grave-troll as well as a flamekin zealot and wants to attack. I point out to him that since he played bazaar then mana burned that he had already entered him combat phase and is currently in his second main. He dredged down to one card in his deck and my 4 card hand is: petal, sea, vamp, brainstorm (with necro in play). So I ancestral him and he dies. So I mise game 1. How lucky.

Game 2: He powders his 7, mulls to 6, mulls to 5, mulls to 4, mulls to 3, mulls to 2, mulls to 1, powders his 1. So my hand of leyline, 2 tendrils, brainstorm, and 3 lands looks like a winner. I brainstorm into turn 2 --> ritual, sapphire, DT, tinker for platinum angel. And that is! Quite a duel of wits.

Round 2: JeffTheFob w/ GoyfGat

Typical pairings. Always happens. Jeff scoops.

Round 3: Luis w/ 73 card mirror

The swiss portion of a tournament just wouldn't feel right if I were not paired up against two of my bros. Remember kids, bros before hoes! OR in this case, playing. I scoop.

Round 4: Goblins

Game 1: So I'm on the play and mull to 6. I set up a turn 2 tinker -> colossus with force and gush left in hand. Normally this hand would work out against goblins but his turn 1 consists of: lotus, crypt, mountain, warchief w/  {1} {R} floating, matron for piledriver, piledriver. Unfortunately I have to force the piledriver because I wouldn't be able to win the damage race. I tinker for colossus and his hand also has _the_ stinkgscourger so I die. I was going to save my force for it but couldn't. Sad times for me.

Game 2: I play something on turn 1 (probably ponder or brainstorm or fetch -> vamp at his EOT). He plays a lackey and passes. I kill him turn 2 with fastbond and assorted blue and black cards.

Game 3: I mull to 6 (I think he does also). His turn 1 play is fanatic so I've got some time to set up. He's leaving mana open so I play around REB. EOT of his turn 2, I mystical for demonic tutor with dark ritual in hand. I DT for jar on turn 2 and play it on turn 3 after forcing his turn 3 magus of the moon. My turn I go off and slay him. At one point I ponder and shuffle, then draw yawg will. Yea, nice card.

Round 5: UW/r bomberman

I am at the top of the 3-1 bracket with .66 breakers with the next duder having .56 and am paired up so I draw in. Must be unreal nice. It is.

Top 8: Oath

Game 1: He wins the roll and plays island -> ponder (choosing to not shuffle). I duress him seeing force, misdirection, brainstorm, oath, reclaim, echoing truth. I don't remember what my hand was but decide to take the miser's route and take brainstorm. This choice is debatable since he chose to not shuffle off ponder and the top card could very well be a fetch land or an orchard in which case taking oath would be better. Taking force wasn't an option for me because I wasn't planning on going off in the next 2 turns. So his turn consisted of ancestral, sapphire, go. He brainstorms and plays an oath off strand. I don't really want to force because my gush is worth more to me than his echoing truth is to him. So it get's to the point where he's got razia in play, force and reclaim in his hand. He looks at his graveyard and reclaims a brainstorm. He attacks me down to 11 and passes. EOT, I say, "echoing truth my orchard token???" in a diminuative, questioning tone. He thinks for a moment and forces. So I untap, draw mana crypt, play crypt, ritual, will with  {B} {B} floating, e.truth my crypt, crypt, ritual, some tutor for tendrils, gush, ponder, tendrils for more than lethal. If echoing truth on the orchard tokens had resolved, I would have been able to oath colossus into play and stock my graveyard with some spells (I had ritual and will already in hand) and I'd have 2 draw steps to find an answer to his force.

Game 2: He starts with leyline in play and plays a ponder off an orchard; I think he shuffled. I duress him and see brainstorm, force, some other stuff. I take brainstorm and decide to bust a nut that turn and play lotus, tendrils for 8 since I had nothing going on and he's only got an orchard for mana. Two spirits take him to 6 before he finds echoing truth. I had brainstorm but chose not to play it because I didn't like the odds. I wanted to hold it for a few turns since he had nothing. Turns out I would have drawn into force off it but that's life. I tendrils him again a few turns later.

Top 4: Luis w/ 73 card mirror

Game 1: I force his turn 1 necro and have more stuff going on than he does since I'm casting ponder or brainstorm every turn.

Game 2: I get bob out but he gets necro out. I die shortly thereafter when he resolves will, my platinum angel gets bounced, and he has lethal tendrils.

Game 3: I play fastbond turn 1. It resolves. I play fetch -> sea, ponder and see petal, bob, duress (I am out of mana), shuffle, draw gush. Ding. Gush into gush and brainstorm. Yeehaw. I win after playing more cheap blue cards which draw into even more blue cards, will, yet more cheap blue cards again and tendrils.

Top 2: UW/r salvagers

I could try to arrange some sort of split as we have a jet and a shop to work with but I decide to bash. Gotta back up my bros. I came to win.

Game 1: I'm on the play and my 7 card hand is: strand, strand, lotus, fastbond, dark ritual, timetwister, colossus. So I lead with fastbond (which resolves) and figure he doesn't have force so I go for the all in play and play ritual -> timetwister with  {U} {U} {B} floating. Twister resolves and I draw: emerald, jet, sapphire, tinker, imperial seal, mystical, brainstorm. I play my moxes, mystical for tendrils, brainstorm (he forces Sad ok, no 'easy' win for me just yet.), tinker for jar, imperial seal for gush, crack jar which draws into 3 gush, vamp, 2 other cards. I vamp for tendrils, gush, gush, gush, tendrils for a lot. Yeehaw; go turn 1 kills. I could have tinkered for colossus and imperial seal for something else but I figured that going for the find tendrils plan would have a higher likelyhood of sucess considering he only had 3 cards left that I cared about.

Game 2: He plays strand, go. My 7 card hand is: sapphire, ponder, brainstorm, e.truth, duress, ritual, necro. I draw bob and play ponder seeing sea, lotus, sea (these 3 are ... acceptable). I draw sea. Sea is on top. I play sea, ritual, duress (seeing strand, academy, drain, force, misdirection, colossus) taking force, bob. He plays strand, go. I reveal sea from bob, draw lotus. I play brainstorm, duress (he drains), duress taking empty the warrens (his hand is academy, colossus, misdirection), lotus, necro. I necro for 7 and kill him next turn.

Luis was able to dispatch Daniel, winning the library in the process. We (fob, luis, eirik, and myself)  head to Burgers and Brew and split a pitcher of hefeweizen as we devour our hamburgers. This place has actually broken the format. It's insane.

Props
- Adventures Comics and Cards for hosting the event providing wonderful prize support. If it weren't for these shops, type 1 would see a lot less play.
- Everyone for coming down to play. Players coming to tournaments are as important as the shops who host them.
- Eric Becker for his efforts in developing decks.
- Burgers and Brew for being awesome.

Slops
- Hangovers on the day of a tournament.

Surprisingly, I have been doing pretty well with GAT recently.  Haven’t dropped too much matches with it and its raw power is giving me a pretty good vintage run like what I had with u/w Fish last year.  I think I am really addicted playing with Yawgmoth’s Will now after playing Fish for a long time.

Deck is pretty much the same as Dublin tourney.  I didn’t quite find the chance to post on the last tourney because of… reasons ^^ At that time, I had Berserk main already ^^.  So I decided to up the count of Tog’s because I now have Berserk main, this way I can mise more wins rawdogging that one random winner with Tog out. To sum it up, my creature base is consist of 2 Tog and 4 Goyfs and with the usual suspects and no thoughtseizes.  See Lotushead’s post/picture for my decklist.
Anyways, after a disappointing 2-2 in the last NorCal tourney in Dublin (Who is on First thread) with both losses as scoops, I was hoping the pairing would be better this time.

Rd 1- Joe M. with Deeznaughts.
I never played against that deck before, but I know there are DI duress effects, goyfs, trinket, bob, and 4x Stifles.  It is like a Fish deck in a way :-p

G1- He mulled to 5 and never really got there as I killed him with Goyfs.

G2- Both mulled to 6, but his 6 is better than mine.  He went turn 1 Bob which resolved.  Followed by revealing stifle.  I then misdirected his thoughtseize showing trinket, stifle, and dreadnaught.  He thought I get to choose which card to discard!!!111 But I explained to him that wasn’t the case and soon I was facing big trampling dude.  By the way, the big trampling dude did in me, did me in good L

G3- Check out Lotushead’s picture up there.  The one with “poker face” picture ^^.  My hand started shaky my first ponder missed finding my 2nd land which was really bad; a wasteland on his part would killed me.  He didn’t have it and my 2nd ponder found me the land on the 3rd card.  Meanwhile he cashed in a card with Bob and I resolved a Tog with a FoW back up.  I Smothered his Bob.  On his turn, he DT for Ancestral and ancestral, pass.  I Duressed him and he FoW.  I have a DT in my hand with Emerald, Underground, and Island open.  So I DT for my maindeck Berserk and got there.

Saooooooooooooo, Berserk main is nice.

Rd 2 & Rd 3.
My wishes of better pairing didn’t come true as I got paired against Web and Eirik.

Rd 4- Greg Bare with Bomberman /w red
This pairing got me real good.  Same exact situation as last Sac. (Adventures) tourney.  The elimination round with top 8 on the line.  He even posted on the last tourney thread about a memorable rematch!

G1- He won die roll and played Island, eot my turn Mystical for Tinker.  My hand had no FoW at the time, but it did include 2x merchant scroll, gush, lotus, and land.  He ended up playing a turn 3 tinker for DSC with a red up, at this point I thought he had maindeck REB L.  I still need to bounce DSC so I merchant scrolled x2 for Echoing Truth and FoW, and it ended up my FoW wasn’t needed and that bought me a lot of time.  I was able to gush and brainstorm my way out of it.  A Goyf and another scrolled FoW got there for me.

G2- I mis-D his Ancestral recall turn 1.  He played turn 2 trinket mage finding Lotus.  I turn 2 duress him and hit nothing and saw 2x salvagers, I only had 1 FoW so I was digging to find another one.  So I ended up burning a brainstorm and a ponder in order stop his 2nd Salvager.  Memory didn’t quite serve me good, but I had a goyf on board applying pressure while both of us are topdecking and I was fortunate enough to come up on top.

Rd 5- Dylan with R/g beats.
The feeling of conceding and then getting there is always good.  My tiebreaker was bit risky ^^ xD.  I ended up cubing with Dylan.

Quarterfinals- LSV with Tropical Long.
We had some good games, but everyone was paying attention to Junior vs. Web game.  Anyways, the stax deck lost, my mission was complete.  My 3 needle, 2 flux, and 2 oxidize was my weapon of choice.  This way it was 2 tropical storm vs. 2 bomberman /w red in the 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th neato!

Web and Luis both got there while I cubed some more ^_^

After playing magic for DI time we all needed some food.  So we went to this place, “Burger and Brew” that just recently opened in Davis for burger and brew! It was good, late hours, delicious burger, beer, and the victory just made it better.  Def. going there more often.

Props:
Webster “sac’ing out” DI getting there with turn 1 kills.
Misdirected thoughtseizings.
The people who coughed up extra 50 bucks for the Library.
People trading me foil stuffs for my cube ^_^
Avrom for holding these FUCKING AWESOME tourney with great prize supports.

Slops:
Pairings, making me playing less magic.  Hehe, can’t really blame that ^^

Everyone else posted a report, so I figure I might as well do the same.

Webster and I decided earlier in the week to play TTS, and did some testing beforehand to make sure it was the right deck. It goldfished quite well, and I gave my thoughts on the deck in thread in the Open Forum.

We showed up at Adventures at around 2:45, seeing as all the tournaments start at 3 pm. At first I was skeptical about the late start time, but Type 1 events usually don't go so late that starting at 3 is actually quite nice.

Round 1 vs Type 2 Dragonstorm
As Lotushead mentioned, to get the 30 needed for the Library, 2 other players' entries were sponsored by the rest of the crowd. Well, I had the honor of playing against an essentially t2 Dragonstorm deck round 1.

1-0

Round 2 vs Jared /w Empty Gush
Game 1: I think I got too greedy this game, as I Duress on turn 1 instead of just Imperial Seal'ing for my 2nd land, and then proceed to miss the 2nd land on a variety of cantrips. By the time I get there, he has too many Forces/Mis-Ds stocked up and my Ancestral gets hijacked.
I side in 3 Bobs, 1 Tendrils, 1 Thoughtseize for Imperial Seal, Hurkyl's Recall, Tinker, DSC, Jar. I wasn't sure about siding out the Tinker, but I knew I didn't want the DSC in.
Game 2: I'm sadly forced to mulligan Jet, Duress, Bob, Brainstorm, Ponder, Tendrils, Force of Will into Ritual, Bob, Sea, Ponder, Delta, Gush. The turn 1 Bob drew me into enough gas to power out a lethal Tendrils in short order.
Game 3: He duresses my Force on turn 1, leaving me with Ritual, Bob, Sea, Ponder, Sea, Tendrils. I thought about Ritual'ing out Bob on turn 1, but I figured he may have taken the Ritual if he didn't have a Force. Instead I ponder into a Jet, and use that to Ritual into Bob. His turn 2 is Merchant Scroll for Fire/Ice, and turn 3 is Fire'ing Bob and missing a land drop. Even though Bob only drew me 1 card, the fact that it wasted two of his turns let me find enough gas to Tendrils him down to 4. Unfortunately, I was then left with just Time Walk vs his 5 cards. He was still light on land, and my next draw was Thoughtseize. I decided to Walk before Seizing, and drew Ancestral on the next turn. I then Seized his Mis-D and Recalled into Gush into Brainstorm into Tendrils. A pretty lucky sequence of draws if I do say so.

2-0

Round 3 vs Webster
Web decided to save his good draws for the top 8 and conceded so I could finish various trades I was in the middle of.
3-0

Round 4 vs Junior /w Oath
Despite the event being 5 rounds, I got paired down vs a 2-0-1.
Game 1: We exchange a flurry of Duresses and Forces, and he is left with 4 land vs my 3 land, no cards in either hand. I draw a blank, then a Brainstorm. After putting 2 back I am left with DT and Time Walk. I walk, expecting to DT for Recall next turn but instead draw Will. Hmmm, I guess getting Lotus and winning is probably better.
I sided out Hurkyl's, Timetwister and DSC for Plats, Thoughtseize and a 2nd Tendrils (from previous experience I know he brings in Leylines, so a 2nd Tendrils is safer.)
Game 2: Much like game 1, we trade cards and again are both left with nothing. I am able to hardcast Platinum Angel and beat with that and a stray orchard token until he dies.
4-0

Round 5 vs Cody
ID
4-0-1

Top 8 vs Jeffthefob /w GAT
Our game1 was pretty insane, and im not sure I can properly do it justice.
Game 1: My hand is pretty good, but it only has 1 land. I attempt a turn 1 Ritual, intending to double Duress and Seal, but Fob is wise to this and Forces. He follows that up with land, Jet, Timewalk. Turn 2 he misses his land drop, but goes Duress, DT, Lotus, Will. He then replays Lotus in order to Duress again and DT. My next turn is not nearly as impressive, as I attempt to Brainstorm into a land so i can start using my 2 duresses. I miss, which I thought for sure was death. He untaps and plays Goyf after gushing and playing fastbond. I again Brainstorm, and set up a Jar /w Duress backup on my next turn. I duress him and see Ponder + Duress after I take his Scroll. I debate the merits of waiting, but decide to crack Jar with 0 mana floating since he had 2 goyfs out. I thought I ripped out of this game, with my Jar hand being land x3, Lotus Petal, Lotus, Thoughtseize, Will. I lead with Petal into Thoughtseize, and HE MISDIRECTS! My only choice was Lotus or Will, so I died to the goyfs on the following turn.
Sb the same as vs Jared
Game 2: After early game jockeying for position, we are both left in topdeck mode. Luckily, Jeff hasn't been able to stick a dude, so im under no pressure. I of course do the old rip Will thing that type 1 is so famous for, and win that one.
Game 3:
This game really demonstrates why I like the Bobs SB. I was able to get out an early Bob, and the absence of an opposing Goyf let me keep drawing enough gas to survive the barrage of Duresses and counters Fob threw my way.

Top 4 vs Webster
Game 1: As usual, Web won the die roll, so he was a step ahead of me the whole game. My turn 1 Necro got Forced, and my Ponder and Brainstorm weren't fast enough to win before he did.
SB: +3 Bob +1 Thoughtseize +1 Tendrils -1 Jar -1 Tinker -1 DSC -1 Timetwister -1 Hurkyl's.
Game 2: This time my Necro made it down, albeit after a few turns of setup, including my Bob drawing me 2 cards. I know some people don't like Necro in Storm mirrors, but I have found that if it comes down early enough its so unstoppable.
Game 3: I keep a pretty decent hand without a Force. T1 kill etc, must be nice to win the die roll in the combo mirror ^_^

3/4th place playoff vs Danny
This match was kind of big, since it was Library vs Mis-D + Volcanic.
Game 1: After his t1 Brainstorm I duress him, and his hand is Fire/Ice, Force of will, and 3 moxes. I take force, and go off with Fastbond and Gushes on turn 3.
Game 2: This game was pretty intense. He played t1 Land, Mox, Lotus, Tinker for DSC, Time Walk. He then bashed for 11 and Brainstormed on turn 2. My opening hand was Time Walk, Ritual, Sea, Strand, Ancestral, Tendrils, Ponder. This hand doesn't really have outs to the turn 1 DSC + Walk, but I still had a draw step! I drew Demonic Tutor, and had to think for a bit. I figured my best shot was to Ritual and DT for Sapphire, so I could Walk then Ancestral on the following turn. I did that, and drew into the Echoing Truth. Danny had a Brainstorm and a fetch to get rid of the DSC in his hand, and I settled down for a longer game. I thought I was close to killing him, but a whiffed Brainstorm led to a 10 point tendrils instead of a lethal one. A few turns later was where I got tricked pretty well. Danny had 3 cards in hand, one of which was a Mystical Tutor he Scrolled for (he had already Recalled previously), and I thoughtseized him. After clarifying a question about priority, he Mystical Tutor'ed for Brainstorm, then attempted a Gush. I Forced Gush, figuring he had something in his hand worth protecting, and was surprised to see 4 lands. So my Seize just missed, and he was able to Brainstorm with a Fetch in play and 4 cards in hand. A salvagers came out, but despite having Lotus Danny had no way to kill me. After being beat down to 4, I ripped the 2nd Tendrils to go with the Mox and Mana Crypt in hand with him at 6. Quite the slugfest, Danny had been reduced to 16 cards in his library.

So we took home a Jet and a Library with TTS, a pretty good showing. The prize support was really awesome for this event, and it was nice to see enough people come out to make it possible.
Thanks as usual to Lotushead and his entertaining pics and report.

Props
- Adventures Comics and Cards for hosting the event providing wonderful prize support. If it weren't for these shops, type 1 would see a lot less play.
- Everyone for coming down to play. Players coming to tournaments are as important as the shops who host them.

Webster gave me props! Whoot! Well, not by name, but still. Smile

Seriously, thanks Web, LSV and JeffTheFob for doing tourney reports.  When I watch your games, I usually specifically only watch one side of the match (to get an idea of what it is like to play against you guys or try to peice together what hands you keep and why you make the plays you make.  Except LSV.  He just will's Yawgmoth's Will to the top of his deck and it happens. Like a turn 2 CHECKMATE)

EDIT: More fun: A vid will ALL pics I took plus original music by LotusHead Smile Enjoy.

Okay tournament report from the Ichorid/Ventura side of things.

Round 1 Dr_Tongue with Tropical Storm

Game 1
I was going up against what I thought was GAT which was a big mistake. I went crazy with a bazaar dumping a good half if not more into my grave. He was half way down on life if I can remember correctly. Then he casts time twister to reset me. Eventually I power through.

Game 2
Really bad on my part due to expecting leylines and boarding out chalice. He ended up dumping crypt and I realized I would be stalled so I decided to force him to use it early by producing threats. He ended up storming a crazy amount and ended the storm with timewalk and went to his second turn producing a DSC. I had two narcomoeba's on board with bazaar tapped and staring at a DSC with like 8 life or something and no therapy's in grave with two bridges. I die. Round time is called.

Round 2 was against Scrub Oath

Game 1
I remember that first game I couldn't find any dredgers after 3 bazaar activations... then die to Razia.

Game 2
Sideboarding I figured 2 oxidizes was strong since he was putting in Platnium Angel and I did typical sideboard against leyline. First turn I drop bazaar. His first turn he drops oath. Second turn I activate and find oxidize and dryad arbor! Second turn he activates oath and I sit there waiting for platnium angel when I realize Blazing Archon hit. GG

Round 3 Workshop Aggro (Red)

Game 1
Typical Ichorid game 1. Mass out and kill. Couldn't do dread return with sphere being in play but ichorid and zombies did the trick.

Game 2
He resolves jugernaut first turn putting me on a fast clock along with wasting my bazaar. I go the really slow route and dredge until I get a couple ichorids and eventually find 3 bridges off one dredge and win.

Round 4 Worse than gro (I'm not totally sure if this is correct due to him only playing lands before I win)

Game 1
Kill on second turn with 2 bazaars and alot of hasted 3/3 zombies

Game 2
Didn't see leyline yet again and go nuts on turn 3 for the win.

Round 5 Worse than Gro (With counterbalance)

Game 1
I find 4 bridges on second turn and go off.

Game 2
I find 2 narcomoebas and 2 ichorids and drop a dryad arbor turn two and go off.

Tournament ended there for me due to a tie breaker for 8th.

I want to thank everyone at the store for putting this tournament on and also for letting us hang out for 30 minutes at 4:00am even though you were closing. We had a great time and will definatly come again. Lotushead thanks for the help throughout the tournament. It was definatly alot easier having someone that was friendly to talk to in the middle of matchups along with dr. tounge

Thanks for writing them up.  I'll type them out in the future, but just wanted to test my theory out. Smile

I don't know when the next tourney is (Eudemonia, Who's on First?, or Adventures), but will let you know when I know.  In my SIG is the NorCal Vintage Boards and sometimes the tournies get posted their first.

Sounds like everyone had fun... aside from the guys who didn't make it >_< Gah, I wanted to go, but sadly, Richie ran out of money, Zac had work, and I was NOT going to drive around the passes when we had just been hit by a snowstorm with chance of more that day... but next time, NEXT TIME we'll make it if I have to drag someone into their car.

...speaking of which, when IS the next one? I don't see it on the announcement forum... well, I'll keep an eye out.

Gratz to all who won!

@Lotushead
I definitively need the lists typed up. Thanks Carl!  Wink
Although the pics help identifying mistakes in the typed lists. (e.g. 4 Tin Street Hooligans were missing in Dylan's list - I found them on the picture)

I'll probably put pics up first (for Adventures) and type lists up soon after (next day).  Then both will be availiable! Smile

As some of you might know, the "local shop" in Vacaville closed down about six months ago, but a new one opened up this year!  As the "scene" needs to be rebuilt (FNM and whatnot), I'll probably start running 100% Proxy Vintage Tournies there (with Loaner Vintage Proxy decks for participants without decks) and build up from there.  Maybe weekly Vintage tournies will happen again!  I'll post in the other tourney thread when/if I get that started.
