The Second in the Vintage Cup at Pandemonium Books and Games in Central Square, Cambridge, MA!
Pandemonium Books and Games 4 Pleasant Street Cambridge, MA 02139 617-547-3721
*WHEN and HOW MUCH?* Saturday, August 2, 2008 The entry fee will be $25.
***MODIFIED STORE HOURS*** The store will be open at 10:00am and the tournament will start at 11:00am to accommodate players that will travel from outside of the Cambridge / Boston Area. If people are running late, we will be able to hold the start of the tournament to ABSOLUTELY NO LATER THEN 11:30am. Please make every effort to be on time.
*PRIZE* The MOX EMERALD is in EX+ condition, the face and the back of the card looks very nice, there is slight damage on the edges of the cards. Very nice shape indeed! The rest of the prizes will be based on attendance. The following is a possible prize breakdown for 32 players.
1st: Mox Emerald 2nd: $150 Store Credit 3rd-4th: $75 Store Credit 5th-8th: $25 Store Credit
A popular question that was asked about the last event was what is store credit? For store credit, we have a growing collection of singles including standard, extended and vintage goodies available, we also have packs and products, a large collection of science fiction and fantasy books and many other games! Check out our website for more on the products that we sell. ? For credit immediately spent on singles, a prize rate is available, which is between 5 and 25% off the sticker price of any card. Didn't find anything your looking for You can either save your store credit which is valid with no restictions including future event entries, or cash it out at 80%.
*PREREGISTRATION* Players are encouraged to preregister for this event but are not required to attend. We have new furniture, including more tables and chairs, that allow us to fill up our basement. We have a large, comfortable play area. Preregistration will not be open for this event until 7/1/08. Any questions, please call the store!
*PARKING* As players travel from out of town, it's been brought to my attention that feeding parking meters is not really convenient throughout an event. There is a local parking garage a few blocks away. I will update this section with information on the garage. Metered lots are available around the store.
*PROXIES AND DECKLISTS* This is a 15 Proxy vintage event, no additional proxies are allowed. Proxies must be written or drawn on a Magic: the Gathering card. Full rules text on the card is required. No paper inserts or double sleeving is allowed for this event.
It's requested that you bring a typed or neatly handwritten deck list with you, if you do not have one please arrive early enough to write it up, deck registration sheets will be provided. Please mark off deck totals and proxy totals as well as what cards you are using as proxies on your deck list. ELD Proxies are allowed and do not count towards your proxy limit, but must be marked on your deck list. Shout out to Eric Dupuis, ELD for showing up and convincing me to allow his proxies! All deck lists must be written or printed on standard size 8.5" x 11" paper.
*ROUNDS, BREAKS AND FOOD* 32 Players and under, 5 Rounds. Over 32 Players, 6 Rounds. Time: 50 Minutes
The store has many snacks and drinks available at any time. We will break for lunch after round 1, Cheese and Pepperoni Pizza will be available at $1.25 per slice at that time. This will be a 30 minute break after all match slips are collected after round 1. If there are 6 rounds, there will be a 15 minute break after round 4 for the benefit of everyone's health. Top 8 matches are single elimination, un-timed.
*TRADING* As we are a Magic: the Gathienr dealer, we buy and sell cards all the time, and you can buy and sell with us all day! While trading is encouraged, players are not allowed to buy and sell cards.
*FREE STUFF* 1 Random ELD Proxy will be given out as a door prize among players that preregister with the store. In addition to that, 1 random ELD Proxy will be given out at random among people that carpool and share the price of gas to come to our next event or if you are using the MBTA. These measured are to encourage players to be environmentally conscience, or help deal with the rising price of gas, or just come to our tournament, whichever seems more viable.
Our first tournament, run on short notice and was the store's first fully funded vintage event, went very well, and players gave us some important feedback to help make the next event even better!
Any questions definitely call the store! If anyone feels like I missed something, definitely replay and I will update the post!

***UPDATE*** As of this week, Pandemonium has put together a Magic CUBE draft pool that is being used as side event support, and today will be no exception! Starting at the end of round 2, we'll host CUBE Side events. We started with the wizard's invitational list and have been adding to it updating for Shadowmoor and other powerful cards we feel we missed. I'll be publishing the cube list online soon for all to see. Entry fee is $7, with $5 of store credit for each participant given to top finishers. Any questions about the cube, let me know! Thanks to ELD for providing his special artwork proxies to fill in for Power and some of the more exspensive stuff to lessen our risk.
8 man Shadowmoor Booster Drafts will also be held, single elimination, $15 entry. $25 to first, $15 to second. Drafts will launch as each event fills up.

In the spirit of that, it seems like a good idea to include anyone who takes the T and/or MTBA commuter rails in to be eligible for that as well. That's the ultimate carpool!

Oh and as far as carpool/mbta prizes - I'm walking over from Inman Square - how about a pedestrian prize!

I'll try to come. Those of you interested in carpooling, PM me. My car, if needed, can seat 2 people comfortably, 4 people maximum. I'll be leaving from the south shore.

Hoping to make it down for this one, I've heard good things about it!
Having ELD proxies not count towards your limit is also awesome by the way. It allows some people to play decks they otherwise could not put together.

I forget everyone in the top 8 (I played against Micah Greenbaum), but the top 4 was ELD, Albert Ye, Jeff Greene and myself. We split the booty. One of these days I'm going to play one of these tournament things out, rather than splitting.

I'm the only other legal target, so I draw 6 cards, and he literally quits Magic. Terrorists searching in vain for these powerful weapons have the saying "Bill Copes spitteth, and he taketh away." Team TMD

I played against Jason (Ichorid) in the QFs. After punting every which way and various idiot moves, I managed to pull out the match. I didn't deserve it. I was so mentally out of it I somehow mistook a Underground Sea for a Tropical Island. Terrible.

I'm working on getting the Top 8 results posted on the drain, it'll be later this week as things are always hectic around the store. Oct 11! is the next one for sure!
