This will be my final event in NC. I have accepted an offer for admission at SUNY Buffalo for a chemistry graduate program. This last event will be held at All Fun and Games in Apex, NC. This venue is about 10 minutes away from Sports Zone in Cary. They have much more space for us as well and the last event we did there went very very smoothly. I have increased entry fee to $25 for these last two events. I really hope that does not deter anybody from coming. The only reason for this is so that I can have a really good top prize and great prizes out to 8th place. This is the last event I'm doing, so I hope an extra $5 is not a big deal. As always, I do not make any profit off these events. The store is charging a small room fee, so the rest of the money goes to prizes. I've included what I consider the value of the prizes next to them for reference. Further, for the the final Cary Cup event, the winner receives the top prize as normal. In addition, they also get to keep the physical Cary Cup as the overall winner and $1 in cash for each person who has attended all Cary Cup events, which should be roughly $60. _____________________________ _____________________________ ______________ The Cary Cup: 2008 Vintage Series in Cary, NC What is the Cary Cup? A 2008 Vintage Magic series in Cary, NC. At the conclusion of each event, the "winner" of that event will have his/her name inscribed on the Cary Cup. I say "winner" because if there is a split... the highest ranked splitter after swiss will be the "winner." No exceptions (as in working out who is the "winner" in the split). Additionally, I will personally put $1 in the Cary Cup for each person who attends each Cary Cup event before the final one. The money from ALL previous Cary Cup events will remain in the Cary Cup until the LAST event (tba), at which point the winner of the last Cary Cup event gets the first place prize for that event, the actual Cary Cup with his/her name on it as the overall winner AND all of the money inside of it. Finally, any person with their name inscribed on the Cary Cup gets FREE entry to ALL subsequent Cary Cup events. After 2 events, we have $37 in the cup. Myself (w00t) and Garrett Wiley get free entry into the last event. _____________________________ _____________________________ _____ EVENT: Cary Cup #3 - The FINAL Cary Cup DATE: Saturday, July 12th, 2008 (yes, I realize this is prerelease weekend) TIME: Tournament Begins at 1pm. We will be starting on time for this event, so please be signed up with a decklist turned in by 1pm. REGISTRATION: Registration begins at 12PM. Decklists with sideboards are required. Winners advance in the top 8 elimination rounds. 5th-8th will be based on top 8 standings and there will be no additional playoff. 3rd and 4th place will be based on top 8 standing and there will be no additional playoff. All entry fee minus room costs go to prizes (and then some). 1st Place: 4x Undergound Sea ($140) + Physical Cary Cup (Priceless) + Approx. $60 cash 2nd Place: English Mana Drain ($90) + Force of Will ($20) 3rd Place: English Mana Drain ($90) 4th Place: English Mana Drain ($90) 5th Place: Alpha Mana Vault ($70) 6th Place: Foil Polluted Delta ($65) 7th Place: Beta Demonic Tutor ($40) 8th Place: Foil 8th Ed. I've got my eye on the prize. The Cary Cup will be mine.
That deep prize support looks good for everyone else that'll be playing though.

LOL... nice avatar... you're awesome...
I'd like to get a big group to go to dinner if people will be around after.
Also, there will be plenty of side event action for all the scrubs.

I'm looking forward to my free entry, U. Seas and mantle piece. Hopefully I'll be able to shut Eric out of the top 8 since he'll be geared to beat the wrong deck I'm down for the dinner afterwards too, any idea where you want to have it? Here's hopin' we get a huge turnout!

Yeah, the only way I'll swing this is if I defer a flight back from Canada to North Carolina. I'm totally done playing after driving 5+ hours. I'll let you know when I've decided to take the trophy home for no other reason but to piss my wife off by displaying it where no gaudy piece should be displayed.

While I appreciate being featured in the montage, I think it's pretty unlikely that I'll be able to make this. Oh, I also like the triumphant pose in the upper right corner...
Also, MASSIVE props to Becker for his avatar. However, if he does not win, I expect him to relinquish the avatar to its true owner.
Thank you so much for hosting these events over the years. Are there any plans to have someone take over after you leave or is it just sort of up in the air?

Agreed. Becker can make his cute little claims now... but the winner of the cup should get the avatar. Plans are in the works to continue the events

Hey everybody, I plan to take over running Cary area events once Cody is gone. I have the ability to be here any weekend to do them and everything, but the only problem is prizes. My thoughts were to do CASH tourneys, all entry fee goes directly to prize. Would everybody be interested in participating in these once Cody is gone?

I would absolutely be interested, assuming I'm still in the area. Also, cash prizes, though slightly less exciting, are fine with me. Otherwise there's the hassle of finding a piece of power or whatever to put up.

at the tourney on the 12th, i will be polling people for potential dates and asking about cash vs power pieces. i have the resources available to get a full set of power off a friend of mine who has them, but it would be annoying and i would need the money back in entry fees.

Cary Cup Facts for "Vintage Foils"
Every couple of days from now until the tournament (7-12-08), I will post "Cary Cup Facts." Each set of "facts" will have one correct answer. All of the other answers will be dirty lies. Each person attending the tournament is entitled to one response. The first person to pick out the true fact for each set wins VINTAGE FOILS!!! Similar to Vintage Boosters, Vintage Foils are everything you could want in a prize, and more! For example, Vintage Foils include Foil ETW, Foil Tendrils of Agony, Foil Rebuild, and much much more. You can still play if you won't be at the tournament, but you won't get to claim your prize unless you're there. Answers will be revealed at the time the next question is asked.
Cary Cup Fact #1
The Cary Cup base is made from:
A) A sealed MTG booster box B) My mom's yoga block C) Foam packing material D) A jewlery box E) A solid block of wood F) Pure gold G) A lightsaber display stand
Edit: post your answers here so people can see what's been answered and who got it right first

Cary Cup Fact #1
The Cary Cup base is made from:
A) A sealed MTG booster box - not a mother fucking chance. you'd be pushing that like crazy if so B) My mom's yoga block - what the fuck is a yoga block? C) Foam packing material - no D) A jewlery box - probably E) A solid block of wood - maybe F) Pure gold - indeed G) A lightsaber display stand - how fucking nerdy do you think we are?
I'm guessing a jewelery box that you found at a garage sale. That's cool. I can't wait to have it. In all seriousness. I demand that the winnar gets to crowd surf out of the store holding the trophy. Cody will make a video of whomever doing such.

The real answer is "B", but it will feel like "F" after you humiliate Becker in front of the entire southern Vintage community.

You jerks. Do you know how big of a head Eric is going to have with that damn trophy? Every time he comes home, he'll be carrying that thing around whereever he goes all thinking he's some big cool guy or something. I'll be like "hey guys, guess what I did today" and he'll be like "I dont' know, but I bet you didn't win this bigass trophy!"
