While Round 5 is in progress...

Rich is out, losing with Pitch Long to Red Shop Aggro

Nam Tram is out

Roxas is out

At least some of Meandeck remains in contention, playing Slaver

Brassman is X-1

just got off the phone with Fuckin Lou.. he dropped at 3-2. Scotty Limoges is sitting at X-1, loosing in round 2 to Lou,

Godot is also x-1 after his 2 byes for winning the prelims the night before (way to go man!)

my boy brett piazza is X-1-1 and needs to win out.

I heard smennen and mastriano are also x-1, as is TK (he might actually be undefeated)

good luck to everyone!

More updates from 13Nova:

Top 8 is:

Mike Solymossy with Drain Tendrils
Steve Menendian - not sure what he's playing, but he beat Paul M. in round 7 for the t8
TK with PL
Owen with Painter
Demars with Strategic Planning Slaver
Chris Nieghbor with Mana Ichorid

Moxlotus with our new fish evolution deck is playing vs. Jimmy McCarthy running Strategic Planning Slaver for one of the 2 remaining t8 slots. Jimmy won.
Not sure who's in the other game for t8.

More updates to follow.

Jason Aken with Oath from what I've been told.

It'd be nice if WotC actually had some coverage, but what do you expect.

Right, but I don't think that match went up until after the swiss was over. Razz

It makes for a long day for those of us wanting updates on how friends were doing.

Round 1 of the t8 is prob being played out right now. I'm guessing a winnar won't me determined for at least another 1.5 - 2 hours.

I didn't go. It's a 1000 mile trip for me, plus I'd have to track down a full set of power.

Ok, I think what you are saying is that in the top8 still, Paul won the match against Jamie so that Paul could continue onto the top4, so  then:
Paul Mastriano beat Jimmy McCarthy in the finals.
how can that possibly work because after Jamie got beat in the top8 by paul isnt his tournament over.

Or, did Paul simply win the top8 match and now the top4 is playing out.

I just got back after some construction took a bonus hour due to a normally 5 laned interstate turning into a 1 lane road.

I went 5-1 (losing to Nighbor who made top8) over the first 6 with BUGgy fish then lost to Jimmy in the last round.  That Slaver list is brutal.  He mulled to 3 game 1 and almost won.  Strategic Planning>any other crap people tried to replace BS with.  Slaver is pretty good when you can run 8 TFKs.

Personal highlight of the weekend: Casting Control Magic on big red Dragon and another one on Oona.  At the 4-1 table.  Take that preconceived notions about Vintage!

Yeah I was outside when I got a Text saying "Smem won" but my friend meant game 1, which I didn't know.  Sorry for the wrong information.  I will write more when I'm not completely deprived of sleep.

Top 8 went down like this:

Demars (Strategic Slaver) def. Oath Player (sorry, didn't catch his name)
Paul Mastriano (TPS) def. Owen T. (Painter)
Tommy Kowolith (TPS) def. Mike Solymossy (Drain Tendrils)
Jimmy McCarthy (Strategic Slaver) def. Chris Nighbor (Manaless Ichorid)

Paul Mastriano def. Brian Demars
Jimmy def. Tommy

Paul def. Jimmy

That was how the whole thing played out.  Paul played incredibly well today, and deserved it for sure.  Congrats to him.

Also, out of 2 total players, Strategic Slaver put up a top4 and a top2.  That card is real good.

Lastly, this tournament and top8 were stacked.  Beyond that top8, Rich Shay, Andy Probasco, DicemanX, Shockwave, Jeremy Seroogy, Menendian, Endress, Fisher, Moxlotus, Jim Gaffney, Fuckin' Lou, etc. were all there.  Some other highlights of the weekend include spending quite a bit of time talking to Erik Lauer (you know, the guy in charge of our format?) and Patrick Chapin in addition to meeting even more vintage people and TMD people that I had not gotten to meet before.  I'll probably write some sort of report in the next day or two, as my tournament was pretty good.

Paul, next year, you're not gonna get the painting so easily.  And the least you could have done is paid for my dinner =p
