I think that it comes down to personal preference and local metagame.  In the Cleveland area, we have a lot of players who really like Mishra's Workshop.  Unfortunately, this translates into a glut of cards like Strip Mine, Wasteland, Ghost Quarter, etc.  So in most of our decks, Vampiric Tutor often gets cut since fetching out an early Underground Sea usually means that it gets destroyed.

On a side note, I don't think I've every imprinted Personal Tutor on Panoptic Mirror before, but that play seems real neat.  I definitely would enjoy doing that one.

My current build is as follows with this deck.

Lands (15):
1 Tolarian Academy
3 Flooded Strand
3 Polluted Delta
3 Island
1 Swamp
4 Underground Sea

Instants (20):
4 Mana Drain
4 Force of Will
1 Brainstorm
1 Ancestral Recall
3 Impulse
2 Thirst for Knowledge
1 Gifts Ungiven
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Rebuild
1 Echoing Truth
1 Mystical Tutor

Sorceries (13):
1 Ponder
1 Personal Tutor
4 Duress
1 Time Walk
3 Savor the Moment
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Tinker

Creatures (3):
2 Serra Sphinx
1 Sundering Titan

Other (9):
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Black Lotus
1 Mana Crypt
2 Panoptic Mirror

This deck so far has given me moderate sucess; however, I am still wondering if reducing the Thirst for Knowledge count for 1 Ponder and 1 Personal Tutor might be a better decision.

Yangtime, do you have an in-depth sideboard strategy on what to board vs. what deck?  I feel pretty comfortable with the base build, but I am still a little shaky on what to board against other matchups.  For example, in what situations do you board into 'storm mode' and what do you feel could be taken out when done?

Hi @ all,

thinking of a transformational sideboardstrategy. I plan to shift this deck into a platinum controll deck after sideboarding.

-3 savor the moment
-2 pan.-mirror
-2 ssphinx
-1 titan

+3 platinum angel
+4 pact of negation
+1 sensei's div.-top

any thoughts?

Marc, with regards to sideboarding, I 'winged' it the day I played the deck.  I'm pretty sure that you could board into a Drain Tendrils version for pretty much every matchup.  I guess it really depends on what role you like playing in certain matchups.  I'd recommend tailoring the sideboard to match your preferred play style for the matchups that you're expecting.
