All u shittters with Sphere, null rod, or other Combo hate REALLY dissapointed me. I lost to a terrible Belcher player in round 5 because I didn't draw Force of will in ANY of my hands or mulligans, and he had Turn 1 Empty for 12, Empty for 16, and Empty for 20 (we counted 16 but I was later informed that we both miscounted storm). In any of those games, 1 force of will would have won it for me. And belcher should NEVER get to round 5. To give you an example of how bad it is, here is how game two went.
I play land, ponder, go. He opens with Empty for 16 after a wheel of fortune. I play land, go. He smashes me for 16, and plays windfall. I play Land, Ruby, Crypt, and Jet. Through a Series of spells I can't quite remember, I end up with Intuition on the stack, and I have 4 lands in play, as well as Ruby, Crypt, and Jet. ONLY jet is untapped. I'm pretty done at this point.
My intuition finds Demonic Tutor, Regrowth, and Gush. I had already played my land for turn, so there is one card you absolutely give me, and two you absolutely do not. Guarenteed you do not give me demonic tutor. Well, for some reason this guy gives me demonic tutor (WISKEY TANGO FOXTROT???), and I school him by playing Lotus, Cracking it for UUU, Tapping Jet, Playing Chain of vapor on all my artifacts, Replaying Crypt, Jet, Ruby, tapping them, casting Demonic, and Finding Will. This guy was so bad he said "do you play two tendrils though?" and I had to say "no but I'm just gunna kill you with yawgmoth's will". I really wonder if The guy realized in my voice that I thought he was terrible?
Oh well, he was a nice kid, so I have nothing personal against him, but man.... he should have lost to ANY of the decks I listed up top.
Anyway, the tournament was a blast. this was an INSANE field.
There were at LEAST 10 SCG/Champs top8ers there, and FOUR of the Vintage champs Top 8 was in attendance. (Myself, TK, Owen, and McCarthy). IDK why Chris Nieghbor didn't show up.

Thanks for the fast posting Ben. You always run great tourneys.
Just curious about Hellkite Overlord. When did this card become legal to play? I thought it was being printed in Shards of Alara.
What happened to all the Ohio players? Did they show up?

Twaun and I got paired round 1, and I beat him.
The out of state crew was
Shoenkruez and company from KY Yangtime, Jaco, Willy, Nam, Juan, and Twaun. None of them did that well, which is a shame because they're all really good players.
Watching Juan gain 47 Trillion life was classic, though.

Take that Drain/TFKs in Oath. Hail Impulses and 1U counters in aggro oath! Why not double Overlord though?

Just curious about Hellkite Overlord. When did this card become legal to play? I thought it was being printed in Shards of Alara. THIS is a fun one. Despite being printed in Shards of Alara (which makes it illegal in T2 and 1.x because those two formats have a defined list of sets from which you are allowed to draw), it is a legally printed Magic: the Gathering card, officially released by Wizards of the Coast, and doesn't have alternate border or back, making it legal in Vintage and Legacy. http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/feature/469bAs a special preview, Hellkite Overlord won’t be legal in Standard until the release of Shards of Alara on October 3, but in the meantime, as a printed Magic card, it will be legal in Legacy and Vintage starting on August 29, 2008.

drains and tfk totally still made top 8 in oath. You don't play 2x overlord because of et, occasionally the vigilance is nice, and akroma/hellkite still gets you to 20 no matter what.

1. My last name is spelled Wyrowski. 2. The Mana Vault should absolutely have been a Mana Crypt. I lost at least 1 game flat out because it wasn't. Than had to mulligan at least twice because it wasn't.

The event was awesome mostly because I won.
My oath list is the fucking shit. Mad props to Matt Endress for the original GWS chalice oath that I based my list on.
Hellkite Overlord Was awesome.
I'll write up more but I didnt take great notes so we will se how that goes.

That is true, however there are a significant number of games where you only get one Oath activation (because the Orchard gets wasted, etc...). In that case the Overlord would be superior. But overall I agree that the Akroma/Overlord combo is probably better than 2x Overlord.

But overall I agree that the Akroma/Overlord combo is probably better than 2x Overlord. all day I played decks running wasteland, a side from the mirror,I was able to activate oath 2x the vast majority of the time (maybe it didn't happen once). Also, with only akroma on the table you can ward off a pair of goyfs (typically maxing out at 5/6's) with ease. I really wouldn't rate one above the other, hellkite defiantly ups the power level of akroma

Great run event Ben, glad I was able to get to this one.
I literally lost 1 game of magic all day until the finals, and won out through top8 with a game loss.
Finals I lost the bye in 3 but it really is almost an un-winable match up for me after SB; Congrats James!
Thanks again to all involved and I hope to see some of the pictures up soon.

Missing photos: Bill Dicks played Drain Tendrils Jamison Bryant played BWG Fish Brian Fisher played Slaver Matt Friewald played UW Wizards Derek Wochinski played Drain Tendrils Anthony Michaels played 5c Stax Mike Osiecki played TPS Missing: Chris Singleton (PitchLong) Jeremy Seroogy (Oath) Thomas Thompson (Goblins) Top 8 photos: Owen Turtenwald sets up James King has the nuts, once again. Check out that gorgeous playmat. Tommy Kolowith leads off with the classic "Island, go" Nate Moersfeld mulls into "Lotus, Recall" James King begins the final round James King leads off with a quick Oath, but Nate is able to bounce it and somehow stop it Dimir Cutpurse rips up James King's hand Illusionary Mask stares down Oath of Druids, as James can't find an Orchard and Nate doesn't want to drop the Nought yet. Players chat after the tournament's end Yep, yours truly. I've been up for 16 hours and I've eaten almost nothing, and I desperately want to go home. Overall an awesome day though. Not pictured due to either camera issues or me not getting enough time to do it: Matt Friewald (UW Wizards) Brian Fisher (Slaver) Chris Singleton (PitchLong) Michael Osiecki (TPS) Anthony Michaels (5c Stax) Jeremy Seroogy (Oath) Jamison Bryant (BWG Fish) Thomas Thompson (Goblins) Robert Bonnell (SS Goyf) Bill Dicks (Drain Tendrils) Derek Wochinski (Drain Tendrils) My apologies to everyone whose name I spelled wrong, who I didn'g get time to photograph, or who I mis-identified in photos. Feel free to correct me on anything; I'll get it right someday. Thanks to everyone who showed up. It was an AMAZING turnout, and I certainly had my hands full all day. ICBM Open #7 will be on October 4th, 2008, same time and location. I will have an announcement up tonight.

the picture of owen is during one of the craziest turns I've ever seen. I dont remember it exactly but it involved ponder, Recall, lotus, demonic, mana crypt, yawg will, replay lotus recall and ponder, and then plays a grindstone. Luckily though James King's will is greater then yawg's and Somehow Owen couldnt find answers for my oath.

Owen Turtenwald (watch for his Starcity articles!) played Painter Man, that guy's awful. Who would want to read his stuff? Terrific report Ben, the pictures of every player with deck archetype is just over the top. Incredible, and another terrific tournament as well. I look forward to the next.

The tournament was fantastic as always. Not a single person commented on my shirt...
Hanging out at Soly's house afterwards was good times as well.
Ordering 13 Mias, 3 wings, and 3 cinnamon sticks from Pizza Hut at 11pm was the BEST!
