Playable...maybe. The issue is that barring a realistic CC for Aether Vial (since cc 3 means I can't drop it before turn 4), other goblins like Tinkerer, Vandal, or Tin-Street Hooligan will always be situationally better. I honestly believe that if they printed the card I'm suggesting below, Goblins and Oath would be the only tier 1 strategies in the format. Ronom Goblin Creature - Goblin Sacrifice Ronom Goblin: Destory target artifact. 2/2 Right, cause that's only better than Goblin Piker in two ways. Also, if the two best decks in the format were Goblins and Oath I'm pretty sure playing a deck based on Tarmogoyf and Qasali Pridemage sounds like a plan. Maybe GWB with maindeck Engineered Plague to kill Gobbos and Spirits as well. Everything has a foil.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.
Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops. I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

I've never ever lost a game to gobbos with TPS, and Oath is not at all a bad matchup either.

Right, cause that's only better than Goblin Piker in two ways. I didn't say it was printable at . Though I suspect at it might be. It's not like Tin-Street Hooligan broke any formats and this proposed card wouldn't 2-for-1 under the current combat rules. Also, if the two best decks in the format were Goblins and Oath I'm pretty sure playing a deck based on Tarmogoyf and Qasali Pridemage sounds like a plan. Goblins presently mops the floor with Noble Fish. As long as it has to beat Drains and Stax, it can't run enough aggro to beat us. Naya Zoo rules Legacy, but it's not viable in vintage due to stark lack of ability to disrupt the restricted list. Maybe GWB with maindeck Engineered Plague to kill Gobbos and Spirits as well. There's a Fish deck for every meta. In the described metagame, Storm decks would be extremely strong. I've never ever lost a game to gobbos with TPS, and Oath is not at all a bad matchup either. It's a weird matchup. Goblins is the clear control deck and TPS the clear aggro deck since you have to use your FoWs defensively against Mindbreak Traps and/or Sphere effects.

Just realized what an idiot idea this is in a deck designed to win with creatures anyway. Fight the Oath, not the Orchard. Right, cause that's only better than Goblin Piker in two ways. I didn't say it was printable at . Though I suspect at it might be. It's not like Tin-Street Hooligan broke any formats and this proposed card wouldn't 2-for-1 under the current combat rules. So, if they printed Sorcery - Draw two cards then Blue decks would be boosted. Not a very strong statement. Tin-Street also doesn't 'work' with Aether Vial or Goblin Lackey, which this would. Right, that's why I was talking about the format you're hypothesizing about, where your tier-one Goblins list is suppressing restricted_list.dec (presumably through your proposed card and Earwig Squad), opening space for a mid-range aggro deck to trump Goblins (and still beat Oath). Anyway, this whole discussion is moot.

Agreed, it's just rather easy to play aggro against a deck like gobbos trying to play control. then again the gobbos pilots around here are... less than excellent so maybe it's not as much of a cakewalk as I think it is.

This might also be an interesting way to get R&D to print the card. I mean, have we actually tried just changing the restricted list ourselves and then holding a major tourney to see if it works out as we'd hoped?

ThaGunslinga held a tourney a while ago reverting back to the pre-Apocalypse rules/cardpool (Gush, Flash, BS, Scroll, Ponder legal as 4x, no working Time Vault, no cards Lorwyn I think or later), which is similar. I'm not sure whether introducing a speculative card is the right way to go with that. At the same time, I would love nothing more than for invitation-style created cards to come back. Maybe one each to the Vintage and Legacy champs winners each year? That would be amazing. I promise my card would only break Standard for the whole time it would be legal!

If you guys want to discuss hypothetical changes to Vintage, the B/R list, complaints about the format, or anything similar, you have the Vintage Issues forum for that. Please keep those discussions out of this thread.

I was wondering why there were movie ads on the back of Tips cards from M11.
Very cool indeed. I'm sure some real paper copies exist and, if they were only made for the movie, could become Proposal-like mythical collector's items.

I'm much more worried about land->mox+Illusory->take your 2 lands and put 2 things with CMC4< into your hand->g2? Oh sorry you could have 4 lands, I'll just take your 2 best spells and leave you with 6 lands g2? Not to mention if your opponent mulligans LOL. The rest of the time it is just super double Thoughtsieze that costs no life. It would be globally run in all blue decks as a 4-of. Really hope it isn't legal/real lol.

I really need someone to figure out what Sword of Mind and Body does :/
One one hand I'm excited to finally have a pro-green Sword in my Legacy White Weenie deck, since Stoneforge Mystic = true power. However, if the combat damage ability is suck, like "srrch 4 a land card and put in into your battlefield" I might cry a little every time I play it.

Since Swords trigger after damage is already dealt, it's inevitably search out a land for the CA part and putting +1/+1 counters on a creature for the "life" part.

I'd take a +1/+1 counter per combat damages. Spiritmonger is one of my favorite mans of all time, so yeah I'll take his inflating ability over go find a land. It's worth pointing out that each of the other 'Sword Ofs' had non-related abilities of cards in the colors they had protection from - SoFI would Shock and cantrip, SoLS would Healing Salve and Raise Dead. So there's no reason for the abilities to be Blue/Green in nature, it's more likely one ability will be very Green and the other very Blue. To be fair if all it did was find a land and draw a card, that really would be pretty significant card advantage - dig land out of your deck and draw a business spell? Wheeee.
