I tried to see if there was already a thread for this but I couldn't find one so I just started a new one. I may only have some markers and random cards but I think I do an okay job.

After playing with courier's capsules and seeing a friend of mine draw some neat proxies I decided I wanted to do something neat to a card that I was alright with maybe messing up on. After a bit of thought I came up with this

I also enjoy drawing moxxen proxies and I am currently working on a seat of very nice proxies for my boyfriend for Christmas. I know ELD does some neat stuff but does anyone else enjoy making proxies/altering cards and want to share their work?

BC has done some really excellent work.  He has a thread here:

In addition, Vroman has done a ton of great proxies and mods, including a full-art Tinker where Jhoira is standing in Darksteel Colossus's hand that's maybe the best card mod I've seen.  You can find his work all over this site and elsewhere.

My first attempts at proxying cards were sloppy and hurried at best. I used mostly ball-point pen and white out. I didn't learn to take the time and tape off borders til just recently.I would just use sharpies to blacken the borders and scribble in name and text. A lot of the time, I would just leave the set symbol of whatever the original card was even if it was wrong. Tacky I know.
This was mostly because i only half way cared how they looked. I more so just wanted to be able to recognize what the card was right away by the art.

Some improvements were made along the way:

I am still honing my skills and hope to share some better proxies and better pics in the future (a scanner would help a great deal ;p):

What do you guys use to get the text/old art off?  Like, right it's an eraser, but any kind in particular?

One of the people over at the SCG forums is really into alternate art. He uses this eraser:

You can also use clear scotch tape to control what portions of the cards get erased which really helps. Here's an example:

I use masking tape, a paper towel, and acetone for mine.  Acetone, available in any reputable hardware store or meth lab, is the pure form of the solvent in nail polish remover and takes ink off quickly and cleanly over large areas.  I'm sure other people use that too, but I'll try to get some pictures up after work today of the results.

Edit:  Here are some Bazaars I did (and some Bridges signed by Max Brooks, author of the Zombie Survival Guide; he does not approve of magically reanimated undead).

That Mana Drain is pretty neat, Webster. Thanks for posting that picture. That method does have precision, that's for sure.
