w00t !! go Jesse, big props for a TPS player winning Scholars !! Proving TPS is VERY viable in the current (soon to be former) Drain infested meta.

@Eastman,
As far as I heard this wasn't with the new B/R list.

Eaatman, I'm not 100% sure, but I think the scenario was that it was posted that it was with the restrictions and then removed soon after. So I ended up being the only one playing with the new restrictions. So I had to swap cards out mid game 1 of round 2 after Eric realized I was the only one playing new rules.  Weren't you, had you made it, planning on playing a new rules deck? That would have stunk to figure out after you got there.

marske,

Hate to burst your TPS bubble, but after Jesse and I drew into 1st and 2nd, we played our match for fun (against the recommendation of a certain Goblins player).  I won't say who won, but I will say that the match made the day less of an occasion to celebrate for TPS.   Wink

Ahh i had in fact built a new rules deck for this, but then decided to stay home due to weather at the last minute.  Glad I did!

@DA,
Ah why are you bursting my bubble of happiness ?! Wink

I'll show up again one day at Scholars and try and make it a great day for TPS players around  Very Happy. It still proves my point though, if you only lose in the finals the deck is obviously good. Still an impressive finish for Jesse, because there are some pretty decent players represented.

Will Monday's Scholars event be with the new B/R or the old one for one final time?

Thanks,

This week will be post B/R changes.  There are no more big events before the switch, so lets get started defining the new format.

1. I only played 1-2 lands each game and was fine, not sure what your talking about there ;-p
2. By this logic (and your deck of choice last night), you have no friends  Sad

Just to fill it in, Dan C. and I were both playing tendrils/tezz/remora with rituals, I finished 3-1 and was out of 3rd on second breakers.  Our lists were relatively similar to the one that people keep panning here, and were a surprisingly small number of slots different from Rich's tendrils/tezz/remora list, which used drains over rits.

Thanks for the photo evidence of our highly entertaining game 3. I wish there had been before and after pictures including what my graveyard looked like before I shuffled it into my library. Come on Chris, you should have known premptively I was going to eff that one up!

The only thing I can remember, for sure, is that you were smart enough to use a Mox and Lotus out of the yard, but your next play was Timetwister. I remember some good stuff, if not at least storm-count-adding garbage, and a Demonic, which would have definetly sealed the deal.

I would have rather had a pic of Eric shuffling the mixed up sleeves or plucking them out. Camera was being retarded though, taking like a whole 10 seconds to start, lol.

We had 17 tonight!  I'll post standings next time I fire up the laptop.  Rich Shay took it down, with Andy Farias, Nick Vallas and Arik Pogrebinsky making up the rest of the Top 4.  Congrats to all who made Top 8, it was a very tough field.

I think you made a typo on those last results; there is a 7 next to Rich's name instead of a 1, which can't possibly be right.

Redeeming myself from the 0-5 performance the week before, I played a UGb deck inspired by Eastman's.  However, while I did go 3-1 (and my loss including a punt against ELD game 1), I played two combo decks and no aggro or shops, so I'm not sure the deck is ready for the prime time yet.  More testing will be needed!

July 20th archetypes
  1   Nick Vallas - GW aggro in which Goyf just isn't good enough to make the cut.
  2   Matt Orphanello - Tezz with Intuition/AK
  3   Matt Macauley - UGb Remora Coatl
  4   Jesse Martin - TPS

I'm pretty sure I had the top play last night, after I hardcasted a Hellkite Overlord against Stax.

I kept a hand at 6 with impulse, lotus, thoughtseize, land, pithing needle, land.  I kept figuring I'd dig something up with impulse, and that I'd keep all the mana sources i could against stax.  I drew into hellkite as my opponent quickly set up the crucible/wasteland combo, and next turn ripped a strip mine.  i was able to dig up a needle with impulse and disabled strip mine and wasteland.  After a few turns of drawing dead, I was able to dump enough moxen and lands (as well as the afore mentioned lotus) to summon up the Hellkite.  I ended up getting there with it too.

Anyone wanna try to help me fill in last weeks results?

I only remember (if it's right):

1st Chris Roberts
2nd? Eric Dupuis
3rd? Nick Vallas
4th Jesse Martin

There were only 8 people this week so it shouldn't be hard.
