Everyone beat me to it ^^ Just stomped some arrows, guess I will fill in something.
This whole weekend = a beating. I just can't do well in magic. 1-2 FNM with a very decent deck, 1-2 and 2-1 on 2 drafts on Sat. and had a headache Sunday morning. I had to wear a scarf and a huge jacket that my students were laughing at me for dressing like an Antarctican. (that even a word? o.O)
Hoping Sunday would turn out differently :-p consider I think I have been on a roll in Vintage.
Prior to the tourney Brent and I were talking about various things, such as how to gain an edge in the mirror considering there would be a lot of mirror. So instead of gunning Oath, we went back to Goyfs. Goyfs in the mirror + Fow/Duress seems like the way to go. This resembles FadetoBlack's 3rd place deck at Pandemonium a lot; perhaps that is the way to go with this deck instead of Tez. Besides, Goyfs are decent against Fish too. And I finally added in the 4th color for Rebs and Grudges, which is something am still unsure about.
Well, round 1 was a beating already. I got paired against Web. A lunch break is pretty decent, a tylenol from Web was greatly appreciated. So, the best way to bounce back from a round 1 loss is to get the round 2 bye. So, yeah, nice rebound FobertMcFobbertson.
Round 3 was against Gambit's UbaStax. He didn't mull to 5 this time and raped me. I mulled to 6 and FoW his first threat, then proceed to upkeep Mystical for Ancestral and then didn't draw any business at all. Game 2 I went for t2 DSC w/ FoW. But he had 2x Duplicants to answer. I answered the 2nd Dup with Oxidize and then ripped a Goyf turn after. That goyf got there. This is when Oath wouldn't had done much at all... Game 3 was unexciting as I FoW his mountain--> Welder. His Chalice for 0 and 1 resolved. But those doesn't stop my 2cc spell in the form of Goyfs + Merchant Scroll for FoW. At this point I was pretty happy, with a win I can top 8!
Round 4 with Phillip (U/W Fish) can only be summed up as disappointing. He went first, but left U up indicating stifle, I didn't play into it. His turn 2 Cat + Dog definitely revealed Stifle in hand. But I resolved Trinket Mage for EE that turn and cast it for 1. I was playing around Daze and Stifle the whole time. Then his upkeep I popped the EE with Drain up, FoW his Standstill (he had a factory) and I Merchant Scroll for Ancestral playing around Daze. His upkeep he only has 2 cards in hand and I fired off Ancestral, the FoW, I already cracked the fetch earlier that turn and didn't find anything, so sure. At this point, he has 2 cards in hand, Factory in play and I have fetchland, top, and Trinket. Looking great, except my fetch gave me 3 more lands... and another 2 lands after... And he drew Null Rod and kicked me in the nuts ~~><~~ Then he played MM naming Drain, great hit! it hit my drain... Awkward. Then the game pretty much went downhill.
Game 2 he counted 2 of my Goyfs but can't handle DSC. And I rode DSC to victory. Game 3 on the hindsight I could had played differently. But my deck basically didn't cough up more than 3 mana sources before I died with 3x goyfs in my hand. He had no Null Rod. Though I may had been very aggressive with my thoughtseize wanting to get rid of Stifle/Daze/FoW, him ripping Wasteland certainly does me no good at all.
2-2, frowntown, USA. But my TB is pretty high. So Brent and Web played last round trying to get me in. I got paired against TPS. He kept a loose one against me, no action, x3 Duress, Bargain, Mystical, and only 1 land. So I took Mystical when I ripped a thoughtseize after mull'ing to 6. He and I passed for 2 turns, and I ripped only mana source and thoughtseize. He then drew twister + necro. I should had taken his Necro but I took Duress; figuring I can get get the drain in my opener online faster than him. (Yes, the mana I ripped were Moxen ^_^) He then ripped Ritual. Okay, I played some football. He Necroed for like 10, then 5.... but he can only Desire for 6 -_-||| And obviously he hit 5 blanks and the 6th card was.... Brainstorm. And he braintormed into Tinker/DSC. And I continued drawing 2 lands.... T_T
Game 2 was pretty much the same. He ripped DT, but probably could had sit on it as I wasn't applying pressure to him. He instead went for Desire for 6... Sure. Then land, Valut, Mox, land, DSC, and Duress. Promptly taking out my counter and cast DSC. I had E. Truth in hand, but he can just recast DSC next turn.... I then went on the biggest fucking tilt ever and scooped, Desiring for 6, and gets there... too much Desires at the freaken GP. I </3 Desire.
Well, it was moot anyways. Since my buddies didn't win their match. None of the X-2 made the top 8, JUSTICE! So, yeah, Fob = the old trunk that you never want to put gas in to drive, but you kind of have to anyways... whatever that means...
In the end 2 Fishes got there in the finals. Though, there was some pretty unreal draws involving both. I guess that is how I got there too with Fish :-p But drawing 4 of the 6 restricted card with FoW, wasteland, and U card in opener in the crucial game 3 is pretty.... NICE~~~!!! I wish I have done that once....
Magic is a beating that week for me. Absolute beating, it is like studying for a test, 100% ready, and still fails. Not once, but like 3 times. But glad Tez is doing well elsewhere
, but it may be time for me to move on after 3 month. I think I am fucking tapping my Bazaars next time while I learn how to play magic like LSV, the tightest singleton master of the universe.
Despite getting pwned by magic and myself, this report was kind of fun. :-p
