New York City Vintage?

Much to my dismay, when I came to New York City I discovered that there is evidently no Vintage scene (at least to my knowledge) in the city or its immediate area. Consequently, I figured I would start this thread just to gauge if there is any interest in Vintage in New York City. Additionally, if you have suggestions for a venue, those would be appreciated too. I'm not opposed to something like vroman has done in the past where events are just held at someone's apartment. I'm really looking for places that can be reached through the subway, as the main reason I'm not venturing further northeast is due to my lack of a car. Alternatively, perhaps carpooling to northeastern venues is also a possibility if someone has a car.

Roland Chang, Josh Meckes, and the Forino brothers are all in NYC, so there is Vintage in the big apple.

I'm still on West 4th Street and 6th Ave. until graduation in late May.  I think i could host a game night in my journal's offices if there is sufficient interest (I'm chief of a law journal here at NYU, and we have a decent sized office space).   Yare if we can't get one or two more such that we have something to plan, we should just meet up and play one of these nights. 

I've also been frustrated about the lack of vintage in this area, for some years!

Apparently we've unknowingly been on the same law journal for the past year.

In any case, I can attest that the proposed venue could probably handle, oh, 12 people maybe. Surely there are more people interested out there, such as those Steve mentioned. Also, Eastman is the big cheese as far as access to this venue is concerned; I'm just a lackey.

I just messaged this thread to most of the people with New York, NY listings on the TMD facebook group.  If we did have let's say 5-6 even, we could do a round robin tournament sometime in the next few weeks which would be fun

A round robin with 5-6 (or possibly more) players sounds like a great idea to me. Since we have the (free!) venue this could be really cool.

I ran a Mox Jet tourney on the Island some months ago, it was announced on TMD.  We had 12 people show up. 

I know that there are a lot of vintage players in the NYC area, but we're organized awfully poorly.  I'm more than willing to put another tournament together for April, with prize guaranteed once we reach a certain number of entrants.  I'd like to get a general idea of the number of people we're looking at though.  If this is something that you're interested in, please either PM me, or leave a response here. 

I'm going to scout a possible location for a tournament on Sunday.  A lot of the stores on the Island run Magic drafts on Saturdays that they generally aren't willing to move.  This means that I'm looking at the weekend of the 18th-19th.  I hope to find a location that is willing to move their draft.  Hopefully the location that I'm going to see Sunday is large enough and isn't running a draft.

I've spoken with Jeff in regards to support.  Roughly, and please keep in mind that this means that these are basic parameters that are subject to change, it would probably be a Mox tourney (Jet?) that guarantees prize at 20 people.  Entry would be $25.  I'll look into prize support through the top X when I've settled on a location.

Is this something that you guys are interested in?  There are a solid 12-16 people that I'm sure I can get, but I'm not going to be able to run this unless we get more people from outside the immediate vicinity of our playtest group. 

And what about the Jersey crew?  Is Team 0-2 Drop willing to take a trip to NY for a tourney?

Whether it's on the Island or the City, NY has a whole bunch of Vintage players. If we get something going on in that area, I'd be down and willing to help out anyway I can as a fellow New Yorker.
