Steve won with Faeries.  The list is actually the sickness.    I'll be posting the Top 8 lists today.

Thanks for all of the updates Soly and congratulations on your performance.  Has anyone been able to identify which cards were missing from the Day 1 Decklists?

Thanks again, Soly.

Does anyone who played RG or RGW beats have any comments about the day or how their deck fared in the field? (Obviously they weren't represented in the field, but I'd be interested to know what decks they faced in the swiss and how well they did overall).

All in all it was a great event. I played UR faeries both days, almost to top 8 day one, but then I was just bad instead.

Day 1, the deck was golden all day, doing it's thing against tezz, managing to take a game against goblins, and actually taking the match against RG beatz somehow.

Round six, I'm 4-1 and matched against soly. I know from watching games earlier in the day that he's playing tez, so this game should be a pretty easy win. I take game one easily. Game 2 I literally give to him when I rebuild in response to his voltaic key when he has vault on board (at which point he bounces the key he's playing instead of the vault in play, but that's another rant entirely, that ultimately didn't matter) instead of waiting and responding to the activation. Game 3 I'm completely on tilt and wind up playing wrong ALL day and he manages to clench the win.

I'm bummed, but figure I have a slim shot at 9th if I go 5-2, so I decide against dropping; then I get paired against oath and just lose.

Yeah this was a mistake on both our parts, however I did have the 3 mana either way to win that game there.  Also, spectators mentioned it after you scooped up anyway, and I actually called the judge on the situation.  If I didn't have the 3 mana, I would have scooped to you.  However, your timing on the rebuild was way off by not responding to my activation, and you gave me that game. You also gave me game 3, by fearing Meloku too much.

This was my First Tourney in like 2 years.  What a great time!  Some of the BEST PLAYERS IN THE USA were competing.

My round one, Day one. I was playing Bob Tendrils, I went first and played Dark Confidant. On my turn two I revealed to Bob a Mind's desire (Fry for 8). On my turn 3 I revealed to Bob a Yawgmoth's Bargin (Fry for 6). I died to Bob next turn I think. Game two I went first and did nothing. On his turn he tried to cast a Sphere of resistance which I forced, then he cast tinker going for Trinisphere. I went again and do more of the same nothing. On his turn 2 he cast a Crucible and put a Stip Mine into play. Scoop GG! I went 0-4 drop day one.

Day 2 was different I had a BLAST going 4-0 in my first 4 rounds. I Somehow through sheer dumb luck managed to beat Mike Solymossy. Even after killing myself game one from a mana crypt that I had no business casting. After that I lost my last 3 matches and ended up in like 14 place or something. Did I mention I was Playing a version of "Painters Key" a deck that I had NO experience playing. Seriously I got the cards to build the deck on saturday so that I could play it on Sunday. Finished the day 4-3.

This was the Vintage experience of a lifetime for this "Kitchen table gamer."

Yeah the Mana Crypt play wasn't the best, but your hand in game 2 and game 3 were just pretty good.  You always had turn 1 force of will turn 2 drain, and I had a couple openins that in retrospect weren't the best.  I should have casted necro when you had the painter combo on board, and just necroed for like, 15 cards or so and just tried to hit my Yawgmoth's Will, or set up double tendrils.   I wheeled instead, and your hand after my duress still had a tutor for yawgmoths will to just kill me.

Congrats to everyone who made top 8! Must have been a blast. ^.^

By the way: Is it possible to get a list of the top 16 from both days? Not full deck list, I know those take a lot of time to type; just a list of the top 16 and their place. I am hearing several things from this thread about various decks posting results, and I'm interested to see how much of what posted a solid performance.

Thank You

Awesome tournament, as I expected. Great people, great competition, great times! Thanks to Ben for having a the event. It was a blast, even though I scrubbed day one and was playing for 9th place on day two. I ended in 10th...

Hopefully you guys will be able to hold another event like this that I will be able to attend!

With back to back victories for Fish, this is a perfect opportunity to try and get people back into the format and attract people outside of the format into it.   Show them the top 8 decklists.

Thanks to Ben for hosting these tournaments.   I think, together, they show that Vintage is becoming incredibly diverse and much fairer.   It's true that there were a bunch of Tez decks, especially on day one, but they couldn't win the tournament, even in the hands of Jimmy McCarthy, let alone Owen on Day 2.

The DCI's action regarding Thirst have truly helped to fix and make this an incredible format once again.

One thing of note:

In the day two top 8 there were a bunch of Dark Confidants, including the finals Confidant mirror.

Confidant was played in:

Fish
Drains
Shops
and Rituals

Confidant is taking it's place at the very top of Vintage.

I'd love to see your Grow list from day 1, Steve.  I've taken quite a liking to the modern version of the deck.

I just wanted to say that everyone that I drove with had a great time and that we def plan on trying to get out for more tournaments. I think this tournaments shows that vintage is far from dead, people just want better prizes.

So should we be starting up the "Restrict Dark Confidant" bandwagon?  It was certainly well-represented.

That would be rather sad. Dark Confidant is a great card, but let's face it: It is only played in the numbers that it currently is because the better draw engines in this format have been neutered. Gaining an advantage of 1 card per turn, at the cost of random life loss, is more than fair.

I understand you were not being serious, but I hope everyone agrees that this card should never be looked at twice when considering restrictions.

Dark Confidant and Goblin Welder format.....guess its time to make Lava Dart a maindeck card again.

Clearly!

All available draw engines are broken and must be neutered.
