Nine people showed for this tournament this time around.   Thee was no Stax this week, as opposed to the 5 Stax decks we had last week.    Congrats to Nick Deteiler who won JHU #2 with his 5 Color stax build.

These were the order of standings after round 4 with the cut to top 4:

Connor Frontera w Manaless Ichorid
Austin Pollack w Oath
Josh Lalo w Oath
David Earley w Tezzeret
Matt Magda w TPS
Joe Lopresti w TPS
David Jasie w All In Red
Phillip Magda w Fish
Sean Higgins w Flex Your Flux

In the semi finals:
Connor wins over David E.
Josh wins over Austin

In the finals, Connor wins over Josh.  Ichorid takes the tournament.

Because my work internet is down and I'm writing this from my iPhone, I will post Connor's decklist when I get home.

5th place - No Prize

1-2-1 (4-5-1, second round bye)

TPS

4 dark ritual
4 duress
4 force of will
4 mystic remora

1 chain of vapor
1 hurkyl's recall
1 sundering titan
1 tendrils of agony

ancestral recall
brainstorm
demonic tutor
gifts ungiven
imperial seal
memory jar
merchant scroll
mind's desire
mystical tutor
necropotence
ponder
time walk
timetwister
tinker
vampiric tutor
yawgmoth's bargain
yawgmoth's will

black lotus
lotus petal
mana crypt
mana vault
mox emerald
mox jet
mox pearl
mox ruby
mox sapphire
sol ring
tolarian academy
2 flooded strand
2 island
4 polluted delta
2 swamp
2 underground sea
SB: 4 dark confidant
SB: 1 darkblast
SB: 2 hurkyl's recall
SB: 1 infest
SB: 1 planar void
SB: 1 repeal
SB: 1 tormod's crypt
SB: 4 yixlid jailer

-Sundering Titan was absolutely SAVAGE.  I was tired of Tinker being a blank card.  After seeing the decklists from the simultaneous ICBM weekend, other people were with me on this.  It was at least as good as Inkwell, and usually better because of Armageddon-YOU!

-Mystic Remora was the best thing that could be in those four slots, until they unrestrict Brainstorm.  They were never awesome, nor complete crap.  They were cheap and expendible, and baited at least two FoW's.

- I don't miss cutting FoF, Grim Tutor, Cabal Ritual, Rebuild, Misdirection, or any of the other fringe TPS cards that I could've played.

- Keeping double Duress on the draw was the worst play I made all day, especially against Oath.

- Keeping hands with no FoW cost me a couple of games.

- It's sometimes worthwhile to counter Sensei's Divining Top.

- I let Dream Halls resolve when my opponent (Sean) had only two cards in hand, thinking that I could win on my next turn.  Those two cards happened to be FoW and Conflux ::frowns::

-Most of my sideboard didn't get used the whole day.  It was mostly meant to combat Aggro, Stax, and Ichorid, which were all woefully underrepresented.

-In summary, I was completely, 100% satisfied with my deck choice/decklist.  I would play this again at another small tournament.  Most, if not all, of my losses were due to crappy plays.

-Thanks to Eastman for input on TPS.

-Thanks to MolotDET of Team Bitch for last minute playtesting.

-Thanks to Steve C. of Team Bald for loaning me my ENTIRE DECK for the day.

-Thanks to all of my opponents for teaching me how to play better.

-Thanks to Jostin and JHU for putting together an excellent tournament (let me know as soon as the next one is scheduled).

EDIT: oh yeah, and leaving Hurkyl's Recall in against control deck ...that was some bad.

I'm Josh, I placed second with a Platinum Angel/Progenitus Oath build with Intuition, much more of a controlling deck than the typical build. I'll edit this with a decklist.

Sean's deck for anyone who is wondering was 5color Dream Halls with Conflux/Cruel Ultimatum and Maelstrom Archangel

I will be there Saturday too hopefully bringing 4 others.
Ichorid rematch time.

How has Sundering Titan been? You didn't get to play it against me so I'm not sure how good it is, but it's an interesting choice for sure.

i actually played sundering titan once, against Josh's Oath, and won the match. i see it like if i cant win turn 2 and i have him there, i can dread return him for some disruption, and it did work, being i couldnt win that turn but destroyed his lands. Also, it takes Inkwell on, and basically wastes Tinker. Plus, Sundering Titan looks cool!
