This is Jake's report--he can't post here yet.

Quote
heres a quick report on how the UR painter-pile worked out

5 reb/pyro
4 fow
4 impulse
4 painter
3 moonman
2 gorilla shaman
2 trinket mage
1 tinker
1 merchant scroll
4 acall, bs, ponder, top
3 twalk, thirst, fof
2 grindstone
1 dsc
1 relic
----37----

6 fetch
6 island
3 volc
1 academy
1 lotus
1 jet
1 ruby
1 sapphire
1 crypt
1 vault
1 sol ring
----23-----

sb
3 chewy
3 annul
3 sower/threads
1 relic
1 tormods
2 needle
1 glen elendra
1 meloku

rnd 1
bob homer w bob tendrils
g1 we go back and forth a few turns after he lands a bob. i fow something relevant and he eventually tutors into necro @ 10 life w. a bob on board.
i have a couple guys swinging in and eventually he gets locked under his necro after blocking w. bob
g2 i get 1st turn lotus mox island into glen and he duresses me so i cast the acall in my hand. he takes something irrelevant. we go back and forth for a bit and i end up glenning his demo tutor after a rit but he darkblasts it and eventually gets a bunch of spells lined up. He ends up dropping jar and breaking it but doesnt play the chain of vapor IN HIS HAND so he ends up a spell short of killing me. eventually i get t-dsc and swing in for the w.

rnd 2
trogdon playing GW
g1 i get a lucky painter grindstone assembled after casting an acall on his first upk. his zero cards in library dont give him enough turns for the isamaru+armadillo cloak to beat me
g2 i mull to five and eventually draw into lotus and cast acall+impulse. i should have played the painter here because i could have kept up reb, but he stripmines my land the next turn anyway to keep me off mana. i have another land in hand, but no creatures plus 1 land doesnt beat his army of guys
g3 i cast ANOTHER acall on his first upk. i threads his goyf and eventually swing in there w multiple counters in hand

rnd 3
brandon adams playing adnaus

g1 i mull into first turn relic, second turn grindstone. he duresses me on his turn 2 and whifs into two lands. within two turns he is dead via a topdecked painter
g2 he mulls into a quick necro into adnaus and the game is over
g3 he muls again and gets an adnaus off, but hits tendrils tendrils adnaus putting him @ one life and stops. he dies to his own pact activation after i drop moonman

rnd 4
ben swartz playing ichorid
g1 i mull into a quick painter/grindstone and own him
g2 he mulls to 4 and i get a moonman down before he has a chance

won the ichorid match w.o ever drawing any sb hate...pretty lucky

rnd 5
ethan becker playing 3 color painter-key

g1 he turn ones lotus, mox, mana crypt into acall, braintorm, trinket mage+top, and something else. i lose shortly thereafter
g2 i get a turn 2 moonman followed shortly by glen, which locks down the game enough to finish him off w. a t-dsc
g3 this was a fun game because i actually just went the fish route and beat him down w. moonman (taking out 4 of his lands) plus a trinket mage for several turns.

rnd 6 ID

rnd 7 i scoop so i dont have to play owen in top 8 (prob should have so at least one of us wouldve t4d)

top 8
jerry yang playing BR stax
g1 he gets 1st turn trini, which i force. t2 he goes lotus welder bob...gets a couple tangle wire plus crucible and i lose
g2 i keep a one lander w. force plus blue card and annul, along with a grindstone. i annul his first turn thorn and then force his welder. i get stuck on one land until about turn 5, which allows him to assemble a lock and destroy me

--------------------------------
overall the deck played really well. at no point did it feel underpowered, the only games i lost were to my own mistakes, other than g1 against yangtime but those draws are pretty tough to beat

one IMPORTANT POINT- the deck is not a drain deck. it is more fish based w. the gorilla shamans and other 2/2s.
i decided to go this route because after losing tfk, painter doesnt really need drains to operate.
i cut gifts because i cut the drains and cut mystical for the second trinket mage

moonman was the absolute nuts all day
5 rebs was plenty
impulse served its purpose well and was pretty good in the deck
ponder played surprisingly well throughout the day, because you have quite a few shuffle effects so u usually can avoid getting the 3rd card down if it sucks really bad
the relic could prob be a needle too, but the draw was nice and it did cut off a yawgwillkill once
never got a chance for the shamans to be relevant but the seem to fit the theme of the deck pretty well

as for the sb--

i think the 4 cards are enough against ichorid, plus you have the chewys to get rid of bridge and hit chalice

i had zero combo hate but beat it twice--mostly due to my opponents being donks and luck, i wish i had combo hate, maybe 3-4 slots

even with like 6-7 cards against stax i still lost but that was mostly due to his awesome draw g1 and my decision to not mulligan game 2

this is prob what ill play at gencon with some minor changes but overall i loved how the deck played. its incredibly consistent and moonman was the nuts.

congrats Jake!  Our mirror match in round 5 were the best games I played all weekend!  I look forward to playing you again in the future.

I remember our game one pretty well:

You're on the play: Land, Mox, Relic, go
Me: Land, go
You: Academy, Grindstone, go
Me: EOT Consult for Duress, RFG half of my deck
Me: Duress seeing land, land
You: EOT grind me for something irrelevant
You: Play land, Painter, activate GS FTW

That was twice in the match I lost to a topdecked dude. Next time, I'm siding Essence Shatter...

Our game 2 seemed pretty intense with the desperation Relic into something to stop my Pact. All in all, pretty good games and I guess I had that coming after the GP side event. Congrats on the top8!

In game three of round two:

Mark Trogdon's opening hand (+ first draw) was:

Black Lotus
Strip Mine
Wasteland
Kataki
Orim's Chant
Rancor
Elvish Spirit Guide
Savannah

You played Island, Ancestral on his upkeep.

Mark played:

Strip Mine the Island
Black Lotus
Sacrifice Black Lotus to play Elvish Spirit Guide

Suffice to say, that was not optimal.

Since you had just Ancestraled, you were going to have to play a Mox or something to lower your hand size.

Mark could have gone:

Strip your Island
Black Lotus
Orim's Chant to stop you from Forcing
Kataki
pitch ESG to play Rancor

Your turn two play was:

Island --> Mana Vault

His Kataki would have prevented you from using that Vault efficiently.  On his next turn Mark drew another Rancor, so he could have attacked with a 6/1 on turn two as well.
