I couldn't make it, but my man James King is there.  He says they got 33 people.  Top 8 he gave me was:
Stephen Menendian
Jerry Yang
Brian Demars
Doug Linn
James King
Matt Hazard
CJ Moritz
Soly

James got 3rd
Soly got 4th, losing to a Sea Drake deck

Demars is in the finals with whoever beat Soly

GP Boston must have really killed their attendance.

wow just 33 people? I'm very surprised, I thought for sure this was one of the most anticipated events of the summer for vintage.

1st Brian Demars
2nd Cj Moritz
3rd James King
4th Soly
5th Doug Linn
6th Jerry Yang
7th Matt Hazard
8th Chris LePay

My standard Tournie report complete with pics and flashy info to come when Im not exhausted.

Bleak isn't even the word... I can't tell you how upsetting attendance was...

At least, I feel good knowing I gave folks a great tournament with what I had to work with; I hope everyone had a good time.

I drew with soly with the best tiebreakers on the nine pointers, but I end up falling from fifth to ninth.   I was very dissapointed to draw into ninth but I still enjoyed the tournament.

What were the top 8 decks?  Disappointing attendance but in light of GP Boston (new record attendance wizards says) and the chicago/gencon sandwich, I guess I can see that.  Hopefully a good crew for day 2!

AJ Grasso is in the finals.
Fisher is at least T8.

Day 1 33 dudesweats. I think the GP demolished attendance.

Slops:
- I totally got hit in the forehead by the mulligan hammer. I think my average hand size for the day was 4.
- Attendance was like eating a burrito before sex.

Props:
- Brian Keil for running the event and having a great venue. The padded seats were king like.
- James King for being the absolute greatest Oath player on the planet aka the Time Twister heard round the world.
- Snoop Trogg for getting us Margaritas post tourney.
- Watching The Salad in top 8.
- Hanging out with fellow GWSers and Team Serious all day.
- All the playas that made top 8.
- CJ for playing Sea Drakes.

Day 2 at Mr. Nice guys. 30 people for the tourney.

Slops:
- Going 2-0-2 and losing in the fifth round.
- 2 bonks during the swiss.
- JACO sitting out cause he new that if he played me in the swiss he would have got faded. :p

Props:
- Mishas Workshop is the absolute ballz! 5 Shop decks in the top 8.
- Sitting with Beaver, Grasso, and Steve in the peanut galley during top 8.
- Yangtime for taking BR stax to back to back top 8's.
- Snoop Trogg for making top 4. That guy is good.
- Jeff and Fisher getting GWS to the finals and 3rd. Who said we were dead?
- Paul Sculptini for drawing around 32 cards and passing the turn. I should have been blown out.
- Team Serious, you know who we are!
- Mr. Nice Guy's for holding a spectacular event
- Tinkering up ham sandwiches.

Rando stuff:
- Soly got two sandwiches punched within 24 hours.
- JACO hooking me up with the hot fire.
- Soly, in my heart you'll always be a team mate. Wink
- The vintage community. You guys are awesome.
- LordHomerCat for driving down one way streets the wrong way.
- Soly, JACO, Fisher, King, and LordHomerCat for pillaging my liquor cabinet.
- My girlfriend for hosting those duders.
- Cats!
- Meandeck, GWS, Team Serious, ICBM, and every other team out there keeping the format alive.
- The Local UMW 710 for being the bees knees!

A couple minor corrections:

day 2, I drew darksteel colossus EVERY game.  I drew 5 darksteel colossi, and 3 Mana Drains in the course of the event and my Colossus  5 times... (in 5 games).

I got my Pamini Brothers Sandwitch punched by Steve Galenda (Pierce) in the morning and then my subway sandwich punched by JACO at  lunch.  Fuck my life.

Hopefully I will be seeing all of you more often!

Despite the low turn out it was a fun time!

Thanks to RitNecroWin for runnning day 1, and Mr. Nice Guys for running day 2. The tournament site for day 1 was probably the best I have  played in and the store day 2 was a good atmosphere.

Congrads to AJ and Folinus for splitting day 2 with a deck neither of them have ever played before and to the rest of top 8 both days.

It was also great meeting a bunch of the Midwest guys. I hope I'll see you guys sometime soon.

both venues were excellent. Thanks to both TOs for smoothly run tournaments.

Gratz to everyone to t8ed. I had the pleasure of playing both Brian Fischer and AJ grasso day two. Fishcer played well, albeit desperately, in our match. AJ played a straightforwarded and simple deck, but I did not see any mistakes from his side of play. I however, needed to fully read staff of domination before letting it resolve in our g3  Sad

and yes, as soly pointed out, I went undefeated in sandwhich punch for another weekend!

It was an awesome tournament and a fantastic time.

I would like to thank Brian for putting me up at his place for the weekend, for all of his hospitality, and for running a fantastic event.  The GP certainly hurt attendance, which was kind of a bummer, but the event itself was really well run and everybody who came seemed to have a really great time.

It was also great to see  the whole Vintage crew again.

Cheers

This event was freakin sweet.  I had an "epic fail" against Jaco where I had the utter nuts and the game was on lock... until I Oathed and my Hellkite Overlord was the last card in my deck (no Blessing, that's for suckers, lol).  What are the odds!

The venue was by far one of the nicest I've played in - and I've played in a lot of them. Padded seats are nice, but you have to appreciate the air conditioning!  A bunch of sweaty Magic dudes usually makes any venue into a tropical rainforest, but this venue was nice and cool.

Congrats to Brian Demars for winning, and to any of you that didn't come - you really missed out on this one.

Odds of hellkite overlord being the last card in a 60 card deck

Looks like everyone had a good time, congrats to the top 8.

Who is the guy on the right in this picture? (from the locked thread)  http://i31.tinypic.com/33en7s6.jpg

He looks exactly like someone I went to school with.

Thanks

This was the highlight of my tournament that day. You open with the Nutty McFlush hands games 2 and 3 and I'm just sitting there digging furiously for answers or my own combo, and then you die to your own Oath of Druids because you don't have Gaea's Blessing your Oath deck. Revenge is a stinky cologne, but I wear it well.

Props:
DeMars for winning the Steel City Open
Mr. Nice Guy games for putting on a sweet tournament on day 2
Brian Keil and his wife for hosting 7-8 dudesweats Saturday night
Team Serious for putting 4 members in the Top 8 Day 1 and 3 members in the Top 8 Day 2
Jimmy McCarthy for driving a packed car and picking me up en route to a 9 hour drive each way
Twaun P. Pwnerton and his awesome girlfriend for hosting 5 dudesweats late Friday night, and for acquiring 4 Chinese Foil Dark Confidants (now undeniably the best creature in Vintage; thank you very much)

Yeah thats me but I'm from New Jersey. The funny thing about that "feature match" was that Beaver and I were in the 0-3 bracket?!
I guess they we're anticipating my final table split with teammate Jeff Folinus on Sunday.  Very Happy

I did the feature matches randomly.
Unfortunetly, I didn't record anything like I intended. Nor did I make post the feature matches on the tourny thread.
There were 3 feature matches
Beaver vs Grasso
Menendian vs DeMars
Yang vs McCarthy

Those guys played under the spotlight.
