THE PHILLY OPEN 4

Over the past two years I have run three successful large tournaments in the area around my home, southern New Jersey.  Saturday, November 21st will be the fourth.  I love hosting these events at the PA Convention Center, but unfortunately due to no availability, for this event only, I will be hosting this tournament in Edison, NJ at the same site that Gray Matter Conventions uses for its PTQs (listed below).  Get the word out, tell your friends, this is an event that is not to be missed!  I will be offering EASILY over $3,000 in prizes throughout the day.  Whether you play Vintage, Standard, limited, or just EDH this is for you!  More information will be available on http://www.phillycollectables.com once I get the site up and running.

The Who/What/Where/When/Why

Who: Hosted by myself, Nick Coss!
What: a great day of playing Magic: the Gathering
Where: St. Matthew the Apostle (click here for directions)
When: Saturday, November 21st.  Doors open at 9:00 am, since I like to sleep in!
Why: Because there aren't enough awesome independent tournaments out there anymore.

Vintage Event

Registration starts at 11:00 AM, tournament starts promptly at 12:00 noon.
Entry Fee: $30.00
Format: Vintage!
REL: Competitive
Sanctioning: Unsanctioned, with 10 proxies allowed.
Decklists will be required (and not withheld – you play it, I publish it)

THE PRIZES
1st Place: Unlimited Black Lotus
2nd Place: Mox Emerald
3rd - 4th Place: Library of Alexandria
5th - 8th Place: $50 credit at my table, plenty of pimp vintage cards to choose from as well as staples.

T2 Event

Registration starts at 10:00 AM, tournament starts promptly at 11:00 AM.
Entry Fee: $25.00
Format: Type 2 (Standard)
Rules Enforcement Level: Competitive
K-Value: 32k
Decklists will be required.

THE PRIZES
1st Place: 1st pick out of prize pool + 1 Booster Box
2nd Place: 2nd pick out of prize pool + ½ Booster Box
3rd - 4th Place: 3rd and 4th pick out of prize pool (based on swiss standings) + ¼ Booster Box
5th - 8th Place: 5th - 8th pick out of prize pool (based on swiss standings)
9th - 16th Place: ½ Booster Box

THE PRIZE POOL – That's right, FOIL PLAYSETS OF THE FOLLOWING!
4x FOIL Misty Rainforest
4x FOIL Scalding Tarn
4x FOIL Arid Mesa
4x FOIL Verdant Catacombs
4x FOIL Marsh Flats
4x FOIL Baneslayer Angel
4x FOIL Lotus Cobra
4x FOIL Elspeth, Knight-Errant

SIDE EVENTS

Zendikar Booster Drafts: $15 entry fee, single elimination, 8-4-2-2 pack payout.  Sign-ups will be running all day starting at 10:00 AM.

8-Man Constructed for a Booster Box.  $15 entry fee, single elimination, I will run single elimination 8-mans for any format that people want to play all day, just sign up!

EDH tournament:
Start time: 4:00 PM
Entry Fee: $10
Tournament Format: Players will be divided into pods/tables, with the winner advancing to a final table.  Every dollar collected will go towards prize, with the following breakdown being given in credit at my table. 1st place: 50%, 2nd place: 25%, 3rd + 4th place: 12.5%.  Everyone who makes the final table will receive a prize!  Percentages will be adjusted based on the number of players in the final table.

CE Rotisserie Draft tournament:
Start time: 3:00 PM
Entry Fee: $30
This tournament is limited to the first eight people who sign up and pay on-site.  I won't be accepting preregistrations because of the potential for fifty no-shows.  This is ridiculously fun and everyone who participated had a blast the last time I ran this (June 6th) and it was the talk of the local community for months afterwards.  I own a CE set that people will draft from.  The way a Rotisserie Draft works is I lay out the entire set (minus basic land) and people draft from it, face up.  Picks wheel, with 8th pick getting 9th pick, and 1st getting 16th and so on (just like fantasy sports).  After the tournament all of the cards need to be returned.  Sorry, I just can't afford to give out a $800 set of cards in addition (unless it turns into a $100 per person event, with no additional prizes, just a thought).

Prize:
1st: $160 in credit at my table.
2nd: $80 in credit at my table.

Dealers: I will be set up as a dealer at the show.  I will be buying, selling, and trading cards all day long.  Please respect the fact that this is what makes it worthwhile for me to spend weeks of my time and thousands of dollars out of my pocket preparing and running the Philly Opens.  While trading cards with other players is always fine, please leave the buying and selling to me.

I hope to see everyone come out and have fun.  If you have any questions, please PM me, email me at NickCoss@yahoo.com for more information.

Event looks great, I actually don't mind that its not in Philly means that I don't need to travel as far for this event.  Not to mention the church is quite large so there won't be any space conflicts at all.  Hope to see everyone there.

Considering I use to take public transportation to the area for PTQs, I have no problem coming. And hey, most of my friends have cars now ^.^

If I find a way to clone myself or split myself in half, can I play both events?  Those Standard prizes are insane...

Will be there unless well I'm not sure what would happen besides a kind soul not letting me get a ride.

Will be there unless well I'm not sure what would happen besides a kind soul not letting me get a ride.

If you, John, and Craig needed a ride I'd be willing to create the most obnoxious caravan ever.

Toss Brandon, Sean, and myself in there, and I think you got yourself a caravan worth driving off a cliff.

Just throw Elias in there and you have a pit crew on wheels.  Well actually just throw John and his restricted posting capabilities in and you can fix any car problem and send boxes of dog feces to TOs too.  Sounds like a great idea though Mykie, I'll let them know.

Tentative yes for me.  But maybe as staff if you want, Nick?

I'll see what the chances of dragging Harriet and/or Blake out are too.

Your tears are like sweet wine to me.  And please Nick, the anal penetration jokes this far in advance?  Gotta save that stuff for like a week prior so people remember it during the drive down and stew on it.  You should know this.
