Once again we are welcoming Vintage back to Richmond Comix!

14249 Midlothian Turnpike
Midlothian VA 23113
(804)594-2845

The prizes for this event are as follows.

1st place gets a box of Zendikar or M10 boosters.

2nd place will get 12 booster packs of Zendikar or M10
3rd and 4th place will each get three booster packs of Zendikar.

The cost for this event will be $15

We will be allowing 15 proxies.

All proxy rules borrowed from the Star City forums.

There are two types of acceptable proxies for use in the Type 1 Vintage tournament. The first and most basic is taking a basic land card and writing the details of the card on it. The second method is to take a card that shares some of the characteristics with the card that is being proxied and erase any characteristics that do not match, replacing them with the correct characteristics.

All proxies must have the following text neatly printed, using a extra fine point sharpie. Ball point pens may not be used:
• The full name of the card (no abbreviations or nicknames)
• Correct casting cost of the card including all colored mana symbols
• All relevant/game effecting text

When choosing what card to use as the base for an erased proxy players must follow these rules:
• The mana cost of the base spell must be the same as the card being proxied.
• The type of the card being proxied must be the same as the base card.
• The P/T of a creature being proxied must be the same as the base creature P/T
• When proxying a creature it may be difficult to find a creature where all characteristics match. In this case, mana cost is the most important, followed by the P/T, followed by the subtype. Any characteristics that do not match must be erased and corrected.
• The art box, card name, and text box must be totally erased. White out may not be used for this as it affects the stiffness of the card and may mark it.
• When adding text to the card do not use a ball point pen. A extra fine point sharpie is the best thing to use. A ball point pen can cause indentations on the card marking it.
• For clarity reasons, the use of cards with the new card frame is strongly encouraged

Examples:
• Welding Jar or Spellbook can be used for a Mox or Black Lotus
• Disarm could be used for an Ancestral Recall
• Train of Thought for a Time Walk
• Counsel of the Soratami for a Timetwister.

How to Erase a Card:
Acetone and a cotton ball or q-tip works well, as does a pencil/ink eraser (the white/grey split type) using the grey side. Before erasing the card, take masking tape and tape off all the areas that you don't want erased for a clean edge. It will take time, but it will come off.

Posting your store's address/telephone#/website would be helpful if you want folks who haven't been to your store to consider attending. Since I haven't heard of your store I'm assuming you are in Richmond, VA (or some other Richmond not in CA).

Apparently I forgot something. Sorry about that. Original post edited with address and phone number of the store.

Someone mentioned this tournament the other day, and I'm glad to see it's already been posted.  Bump for being less than a month away!

Seriously, though, weather permitting, we could get people from Baltimore to North Carolina at this thing.  These are always a lot of fun, and there's Capital Ale House afterward!

Here is the "one week away" bump!

We are planning to do some play testing in the store today around 1:30 so i can see how many different ways my deck can be beaten.

This is coming up this weekend!  Shout it out if you're going to be there.  Otherwise, I'll just expect to walk away with second place again.

We had six people show up for play testing last Saturday after a ton of people had to cancel. There should be a lot of different decks happening.

This was a good, fun tournament.

15 players

Top 4 Decks were

Nicolas Turk - RGbu Two-Land Belcher
Chris Adcock - Ichorid
Doug Azzano - Time Vault Combo (with Mystic Remoras, Enlightened Tutors, and three Voltaic Keys)
Tommy Donovan - Stifle-Naught

Belcher beat Ichorid
Vault Combo beat Stifle-Naught

Vault Combo beat Belcher

Congratulations to Doug Azzano for taking first in his second Vintage tournament ever, with a homebrewed deck!

Thanks to Tommy and Richmond Comix for hosting.  The next tournament will tentatively be scheduled for March, and will have a larger, more Vintage-worthy prize.  Richmond already has a great group interested in Vintage, so the next step is simply to expand the range of the tournament appeal.

Tommy, I recommend March 20 for the next tourney.
