Hello everyone
I'm curious about the "esperzoa remora" list... what's that? Do you think it's a viable deck?
thanks

Lol, that's a Mark Trogdon Special.

I saw Esperzoas, Jester's Scepters, a Tsabo's Web, and I don't know what else!

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the info and congratulations on your result! The article you did on building this Tezz list was really interesting to read as well! It's really interesting to read about the role of certain cards in different matchups.

Can we expect a tournement report?

Monday!

I've built your Tezz list with some slight changes:

  • Echoing Truth instead of one Sensei's Divining Top. I didn't really know what to take out and I want the Top back in but I'm not really sure what to cut. Echoing Truth always has been and still is huge for me. Do you have a suggetsion?
  • I removed the Extirpate and one Red Elemental Blast from the sideboard and added a Tormod's Crypt and one Pithing Needle. How was Extirpate for you? Do you side it in for other matchups then Dedge? I could see bringing it in against control matchups.
  • I've had Mana Vault in my Tezz list for a few weeks now and it has been better then I would have imagined!

Greetings,

Robrecht.

Cut the Mana Vault, if you want E. Truth.

Extirpate is great.  I bring it in against Iona Oath lists that don't have other men.   I would also bring it in against Steel City Vault.

Well, if you like Mana Vault that much, then try cutting Imperial Seal or Misdirection.    I wouldn't play less than two tops.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the advice! After some more testing yesterday, I'm thinking about cutting the Misdirection for the Echoing Truth. I agree, Sensei's Divining Top is really important and Misdirection was mostly a dead (blue) card.

I tested against Punki who was playing 5c Stax, Goblins (his own creation) and Iona Oath=>Tezz after board ("Tezz or no Tezz!? That's the question!"). Recently, Punki has been top 8-ing every tournement he played in!
After boarding, the Stax matchup seemed to be in my favor. Strip Mine is a pest though! Sundering Titan proved to be amazing. I remember you having a discussion about the Titan a while ago... Smile
Goblins didn't win a game but it was a deck he was just trying out.
Iona Oath proved really difficult! I believe it gets a lot better after boarding, safe for the fact that Punki was working with a transformational board into Tezz! If I face Oath and suspect a transformational sideboard, I won't board in 3 Gargadon's...

The lack of Duress/Thoughtseize was felt heavily yesterday. I'm going to test your list with echoing Truth for Misdirection and a version with Duress/Thoughtseize. I hope to be playing a toournement this Sunday...

The lack of more playtesting was also felt heavily yesterday... I need more time to play!!

Greetings,

Robrecht.

What's the reason for the lack of Fact or Fiction in your Tezz list, Steve?

What's the reason for the lack of Fact or Fiction in your Tezz list, Steve?

Dark Confidant.   What's interesting is that what matters with Bob is not simply the average mana cost of your deck, but, as Jacob Orlove pointed out, the risks of hitting two 4-5 cc spells.    Fact is amazing, but it can be a devastating Bob flip if you've already flipped a Force or similar casting spell.   Of Fact, Thirst and Gifts, I felt that Gifts was the best, and that's why I ran that and not the other two.   I explain this in more detail in my article last week.
