There should be some kind of thing announcing Team Donkey Pal as the most powerful 4-man team in Vintage, or some other hyperbole-laden declaration.  You should stop by when you're done work.

I assume we also get to Donkey Punch the members of every other team as part of our victory celebration, but I may have made that part up.

There better be an announcement about our amazing success for this past year!  I really like that Donkey Punch idea too.

I've gotten the B/R Stax to "work" against Oath and TPS/ANT just fine, and I've been basically 50/50 vs 5C Stax in testing.  It's the Tezz match I'm struggling with.  Last night I was 4-0 G1 and 0-8 G2/3 against Steve.  For whatever reason I did seem to have a mulligan % approaching 100% in game 3s in particular, but I really have no idea if Steve's SB was just really great against me (Rack & Ruin won him at least 2 games), if it was just random variance, or what.  I'm more or less sideboarding as shown in the primer (I brought out 1 Vamp and 2 Crucible for 2 REB and 1 Rack & Ruin - the first "match" I tried boaring out Chalice, but remembered that was totally wrong) and I only made 2 changes to the main that shouldn't influence post-SB games (-1 Chalice, -1 cabal pit, +1 Mishra's Factory, +1 Vamp Tutor).

In all liklihood this just means I am awful in general and particularly bad with Shops and should stick with my silly Oath deck.

Steve told me what happened and its sounds like a combination of strange variance and sideboard cards not working as expected from the BR Stax side of the MU.  If Tezz can deal with Welders through counters, Repeal, or Fire|Ice then Rack & Ruin seems like quite the blowout.  The list he was running had 1 Chain, 1 Hurks, 2 Rack & Ruin, and 1 Island which I think is more than the average Tezz list for the shop MU.

Come to the dark side play Tezz.

Twaun, maybe you should hitch a ride with the one Paul Mastriano and come show us how it's done.  I moved the start time back to 11 so hopefully he'll be making the trip.

Rob, I'm pretty sure that there are at least two cars that are going to be heading down to the tournament.  PM me your cell number and I'll drop you a line when I know who's going and who has room.

Sanctioned Vintage: (yes, that means no proxies)

This is something I've wanted to try for some time, and to encourage people to play I'm offering this side event at a very cheap price.
2 words:  THANK YOU!

I will be making the trip up from DC for the main event obviously, should that not go my way, I am all over this. I will work with my fellow passengers to get them decks without proxies as well.

I'm bringing a full car down.  Sadly much of my team is unable to make the trip.  Still, I think you're going to get something like 8-10 from N.Y.

If someone we would like to be on our team cannot attend this event, can we sign him up this weekend for the team event or does he have to be there?

when you sign up the team, sign up everyone.  they don't need to be there ever.  there's no penalty for not showing up, since points are calculated on a points per active player basis.

64 players are turned out today to play vintage, updates to follow!

I'm sure Nick will have the TO report up soon, but in the meantime, here's some info.

64 players, 6 rounds of Swiss.  Notable players in attendance included Paul Mastriano, Twaun, Jeff Folinus, Steve Nowakowski, Mark Hornung, and Nick Detwiler.

Awards for the 2009 season were presented, with Eric Markowicz winning the individual award (2nd:  AJ Grasso, 3rd:  Tie, Nick Detwiler / Matt Elias) and Team Donkey Pal winning the team competition (Chas Hinkle, Mykie Noble, Matt Elias, Evan Hundertmark).

The metagame was exceptionally diverse, with an extremely high number of Oath of Druids decks.

4 players went 4-0-2 in the Swiss, including Sam Berse with Ichorid (T8 at the Philly Open IV) and Keith Seals with Oath, Dom with Drain Tendrils, and me with Oath.  Have I mentioned its a good deck?

The top 8 included 3 Oath of Druids decks, 2 Tezzeret, 1 Drain Tendrils, 1 Mono-Black / Neo-Black, and 1 Ichorid.

In the top 8, all 3 Oath decks and Drain Tendrils lost, to Ichorid, Tezz, Tezz, and Mono-Black.

In the top 4, both Tezz decks lost (Josh Potucek and Rob Edwards), to Ichorid and Mono-Black.

In the finals, Max Brown took it down with his version of Mono-Black.  In game 1, he not only presented turn 0 Leyline against Ichorid, he followed it up by Helming him out for the win on turn 2.

Congrats Max!  And thanks to Nick for running the event and to everyone who came out to support the store, the TO, and the format.

Duh, my bad.  Edited for correctness.  That's what happens when I post before I have my morning coffee.  Congrats again Keith on the T8.  Austin and Eric drew in the last round with Eric unfortunately drawing into 9th (with Iona Oath).

Congrats on a great turnout; 64 players is incredible.

I'm wondering if prize support was adjusted to reflect attendance?

I ask because Mike took a LOT of grief for this in the past with these events... I noticed immediatly that:
64 players at $25 a player is $1600
Mox Emerald Unl. $300 (Assuming Ex - NM)
Mox Pearl Unl. $300
Grim Tutor $125
Grim Tutor $125
5-8th $40 table credit  $160 total (NOT taking into account that the table credit still warrents the profit portion of moving your own cards at small profit)
=$20 table credit for highest finishing non-proxy deck.

This totals $1030.... a difference of $570 (again, my values are very kind and I'm not counting team fees or additonal proxies.)

So unless you are spending $570 for the venue, I'm curious if this went back into the event or will go toward future events?
