We've had a lot of fun with Vintage the past few months with great groups of really cool people coming in to play. We strive to have a very casual atmosphere at Richmond Comix and everyone who has come to play has really done a good job of being chilled out and relaxed. We are upping the ante this time with what I think is a fantastic prize for first place and I am afraid that this might bring out some of the more problematic players. Keeping this in mind I wanted to lay out what our regulars already know but it a way that makes everything crystal clear.
This is a non rated WPN event.
We will have a head judge for this event and he will be playing. There will be other players who are judges who can help with rulings if that is deemed necessary but our head judge will have final say.
We WILL have a fun tournament. If you are a player who loves to win at any cost this may not be the tournament scene for you.
If you are being a jerk just to be a jerk you will be asked to leave and there will be no refunds.
------
The tournament starts at 12:00 noon.
As long as we have at least 16 players he prizes for this event are as follows.
1st place gets an Unlimited Time Walk signed by Richard Garfield
2nd place will get a tournament pack and three boosters of Korean Urza's Saga 3rd and 4th place will each get two booster packs of Korean Urza's Saga 5th - 8th p;lace will each get one pack of Onslaught
If we have less than 16, 1st place will be a playset of Revised Volcanic Islands instead of the Time Walk.
The cost for this event will be $20
We will be allowing 15 proxies.
Richmond Comix 14249 Midlothian Turnpike Midlothian VA 23113 (804)594-2845
All proxy rules borrowed from the Star City forums.
There are two types of acceptable proxies for use in the Type 1 Vintage tournament. The first and most basic is taking a basic land card and writing the details of the card on it. The second method is to take a card that shares some of the characteristics with the card that is being proxied and erase any characteristics that do not match, replacing them with the correct characteristics.
All proxies must have the following text neatly printed, using a extra fine point sharpie. Ball point pens may not be used: The full name of the card (no abbreviations or nicknames) Correct casting cost of the card including all colored mana symbols All relevant/game effecting text
When choosing what card to use as the base for an erased proxy players must follow these rules: The mana cost of the base spell must be the same as the card being proxied. The type of the card being proxied must be the same as the base card. The P/T of a creature being proxied must be the same as the base creature P/T When proxying a creature it may be difficult to find a creature where all characteristics match. In this case, mana cost is the most important, followed by the P/T, followed by the subtype. Any characteristics that do not match must be erased and corrected. The art box, card name, and text box must be totally erased. White out may not be used for this as it affects the stiffness of the card and may mark it. When adding text to the card do not use a ball point pen. A extra fine point sharpie is the best thing to use. A ball point pen can cause indentations on the card marking it. For clarity reasons, the use of cards with the new card frame is strongly encouraged
Examples: Welding Jar or Spellbook can be used for a Mox or Black Lotus Disarm could be used for an Ancestral Recall Train of Thought for a Time Walk Counsel of the Soratami for a Timetwister.
How to Erase a Card: Acetone and a cotton ball or q-tip works well, as does a pencil/ink eraser (the white/grey split type) using the grey side. Before erasing the card, take masking tape and tape off all the areas that you don't want erased for a clean edge. It will take time, but it will come off.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that there will be 32+ players for this. Should be an awesome turnout!

I think this is going to be the first Vintage tournament I've played in about 5-6 years, coming out of retirement ftw.

Seems a lot of us are coming back to it. Anyway, if anyone from PA or above is going to this, I'd like to carpool with you (I can drive an hour or two to the nearest major highway you're taking down). My car just can't handle 8 straight hours, it's nearing it's last leg. Anyway, please send me a PM if you're coming from MD/PA/NJ/NY area, especially if you're passing through central Pennsylvania or Philadelphia. I'll gladly pay for gas and other stuff. I know it's short notice -- I didn't see this for whatever reason until now.

That was easily the best Magic tournament I've been a part of and I didn't even get to play!
Seriously, thanks to everyone who came down to play yesterday. Selfishly I was really glad Shane won as he was using a modified version of my Dreadnought deck that I played at the last event. He took out the bad cards that I loved and won with it. I think that says something about my skill level.
Hopefully you out of town guys can make it to the next event (most likely June). You guys were a riot!

Tommy, thanks so much for hosting again. I always look forward to these tournaments because the Richmond guys are so generally cool and laidback. The tournaments are a lot of fun. I'll try to convince the Ohio guys to make the trip down for the next one as well. I think for the next one, we should collect decklists. I'll take the time to type them up if you want.

Hey, I'm the Tezz player. It's actually David Wiggs, not Wright. But it's all good. I'm copying my MWS decklist, which I think was a card or two off, and I don't have the deck handy, but here's something darn close to what I sat down with.

David, good to hear from you. Sorry I copied your name incorrectly. I've corrected it in the T8 posting. There's a group of us meeting at the Game Parlor ( http://www.gameparlor.com/) in Chantilly on Thursday to do some testing for the upcoming Baltimore tournament. You're welcome to join us if you like.
