All the Rampant Growth effects in Rise of the Eldrazi got me thinking about other variants on this mechanic.  Not sure exactly what you could get away with on this one in terms of power level, but what I've suggested certainly seems like a fair place to start.  Maybe it could get any land from an opponent's deck?  That would be pretty sick in formats like EDH.

Current Wording:
Distant Discovery
1G
Sorcery
Search target opponent's library for a basic land card and put it into play tapped.  (The land enters the battlefield under your control.)

Love it, but it seems undercosted to me. Maybe 2G or even 1UG, since G isn;t really into Bribery effects.

You're only taking a basic though... How crippling is that likely to be, in any format?

At  {2} {G} it feels vastly inferior to Rampant Growth. You pay less, fetch an on-color land and do some minor thinning. At that cost, I'd probably rather run Wood Elves or Borderland Ranger.

At  {1} {U} {G} it feels even worse. I can see your point about it being off color to Extract/Bribery someone, but tutoring for lands has been within green for a while, so I'd consider letting it slide in this case.

I suppose it's mostly the thought that this format is just one big Mistake; and not even a very sophisticated one at that.

How about...

Relinquished Discovery ( {1} {G} {U}, Sorcery)
Choose a player. Search that player's library for a land and put it onto the battlefield tapped under another target player's control.

You can steal other player's lands, or donate one of your own. Making it basics only makes it kinda bad.

I agree with this. Honestly my commentary was based on it being land, not just basic land. I misread the card. I think basic land makes it too bad to see play, as it becomes just an unreliable rampant growth. The above is much more interesting.

I feel as though this card should have been printed 10 years ago.  Good job.

How does this work with Donate on Glacial Chasm?

Since it ETB under their control, they should have to sac. That said, if they don't want it, they can just feed the Chasm to itself.

I don't think it makes it bad so much as it just serves a different purpose.  The card you've made is a Rare that is destined for sideboards and formats like EDH where doubling up on a desirable non-basic is highly advantageous.  My card is a common that is playable in draft, and might find occasional niche uses in Block or Standard, if there was some block mechanic that could benefit from it.
