Liliana'a Caress 1B
(Uncommon)
Enchantment
Whenever an opponent discards a card, that player loses 2 life.
"This might hurt less if you don't fight so hard.  But I doubt it."

Discarding three cards with Bazaar will result in a loss of 6 life with this enchantment in play.  It's cheap enough at 2cmc and it's black.  Something to think about for hate, maybe?

I don't know...  you lay that down, they lay down bazaar.  Activate it twice to take 12 damage and then swing with lethal zombies and kill you.

I would rather just shut their deck down with leyline or remove their graveyard to slow them down.

I don't know if this enchantment would kill them quickly enough.  They would have to activate bazaar 4 times... at 2 times they usually have a pretty decent graveyard to work with.

QFT. The only hate that's worth running vs Dredge is somethign that slows them down or shuts them down. the only point of life that matters is the last one.

Planar Void is just way better.  Dredge is looking to discard only 6-9 cards to win the game so they should be able to goldfish right through this even if you are on the play and get it turn 1.  On the draw it is even worse.

The only sort of deck I could see taking advantage of it would have to be some sort of R/B aggro, to potentially let you race. Even so, I'd still have to agree that Planar Void is just better.

Is this real? It's strictly better than megrim and will be a casual favourite for sure.

cheers,

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.  Although it might be too random to pull out consistent wins.  Being 1cmc cheaper than Megrim makes it easier to play.  A couple of Duress or Hymn effects, with some fast creatures could erode the opponent's life total (and hand) quicker than they planned.  I might try and test a list sometime to see how it fares.

Also, I wasn't just thinking Dredge hate with this card.  Other decks run Bazaars too, mono-red STAX with Goblin Welder, comes to mind.

Hopefully there's some other good stuff coming in M11.

This card is just as bad as Megrim.

We were friends, but then I realized I could win.

I think overall the use of this card is based in the type of deck you are sideboarding into.  In a heavy control based scenario, where you are going to slow the pace of the game, this card could be both a hoser and game winner.  I suspect a number of Bazaar players might scoop if you play it on first turn.  Overall though I tend to agree you want to destroy a problem at its source (Leyline please), and then win through the normal mechanism of your deck.   Still it is tough to argue with easy multiple win conditions.

Dredge might not be the only thing that runs Bazaar, but it's certainly the most prevalent one.

Yes, Hurkyl's buys you a turn time against a resolved Key+Vault. That doesn't change the fact that it's predominantly there for your Shop matchups. With that in mind, if it's failing at it's primary function, then the secondaries are pretty much moot.

Also, pretty much any deck that run Bazaar is grave dependent, meaning that Planar Void is a stronger deterrent than Caress. Simply put, any deck I can think of that includes Bazaar will happily see Caress hit the table if the alternative is Planar Void.

This just can't be true unless that number is zero. It's nothing like leyline of the void and you don't see dredgers scooping to that card except maybe some game 1's if leyline is in someone's main deck.

2 mana megrim gives them a fair chance to win where leyline does not. Bazaar twice is only 12 damage. Dredging on draw steps from there on out shouldn't be an issue to win after getting 2x bazaar activations. Really if needed 3 bazaar activations are possible and it's pretty hard to lose after 3 bazaar and 2 draw step dredges.

It seems dredge just goes off at normal speed without even needing to worry about finding a removal for 2 mana megrim.

Nether Void is absolutely terrible. I can't envision any game I've played with The Deck where I would have wanted everything to be mana leaked.
