I've played Soccer all my life and today at work, I believe, World Cup fever started to hit the non-soccer fans. While at work weeks ago everyone was making fun of me and not a single person was following the World Cup. Then, out of now where, everyone was going bonkers about the US's victory over Algeria. Team Serious is even considering bringing Vuvuzelas to MTG events to get everyone pumped up.

Is there anyone else out there who is following this?

The only thing that's stuck in my mind after half-heartedly following the World Cup coverage is that soccer is apparently way more complicated than I remember it being when I played youth soccer when I was 5.

Twaun,
Awesome to hear you're such a fan, OBV The European TMD usergroup is following it... The Netherlands was actually the first team to be sure of passing the group stage. (not that we played very well)

US did impress me though.

But doesn't involve two oily guys spooning for 3 rounds....

Sure.  Soccer involves NOT trying to touch balls.

This happened in my hometown of Lincoln Nebraska.  What's probably notable about this is, as I'm sure our reputation proceeds us a little bit, but this town is balls fucking nuts over college football (read: American football).  So much so it tends to crowd out other sports and media (art, music, etc, not entirely but Lincoln is definitely obsessed with the Cornhuskers).  So for this town to get THIS much behind soccer and represent like this over a critical victory is a big damn deal.  Vuvuzelas be damned, futbol is here.

edit: for emphasis!

Being from New Zealand, I've been following our progress in our second WC finals (last time was 1982...), and after being written off by everyone else, we were very proud of our team's results, being 3 draws against Slovakia, Italy and Paraguay, even if we didn't quite make it to the next round.

whast an MMA?

On a football (real football by the way, you know that game where you hit a ball with your foot not the one where you throw an egg with your hand) related note I personally loved this World Cup. There were plenty of surprises for even the most avid followers of the game. Keeping things fresh unlike our B/R list for the win. :S
