*UPDATE* due to the hampshire mall renegging on their promise of free space to run the tournament and demanding $500 I will have to move the event down the road to Off the Wall Games. The store has a lot more space than X-9 Games and should be a better place for an event of this size. I will have to pay 100 dollars to run the event here which will not come out of the prize pool which is my gift to the community. Everything else will be as normal. In the future I will still be running events with Seth at X-9 but Adam at OTW has been very gracious to help me out under short notice (see below for directions). See you all in less than two weeks!

*UPDATE* while I am generally a ten proxy person for my events and prefer to play with less, in the interest of making this event more accessible, ill allow people to purchase up to 5 additional proxies for $5

What:
Hadley MA Vintage for a Black Lotus
-and –
The NE vs. NY vs. PA GRUDGE MATCH
-with-

Where:
Off The Wall Games, near the bridge between Hadley and Northampton on Rte. 9
Store adress: 41 Russell street, Hadley MA 01035
Phone: (413)-586-5451
Website: www.offthewallgamestore.com the site has very good directions to the store which is just ten minutes down the road from the hampshire mall.

When:
Saturday, August 28th starting at 12:00 pm sharp so get there early (registration starts at 11:00)

Entry:
$25

Prize Pool:
-Guaranteed-
1st Unlimited Black Lotus
2nd Library of Alexandria
3rd – 8th 2x Entomb, 4x Misty Rainforest, 4x Dark Confidant, 1x Foil Memory Jar, 2x Foil Pithing Needle, 4x Leyline of Anticipation (probably foil)

3rd Unlimited Timetwister

5th 4x Force of Will
6th-8th 4x Dark Confidant, 1 Jace, The Mindsculptor, 2x Entomb

After 60 players, for each additional ~15 players another UL Mox will be added to the prize pool.

All prizes no longer in the top 8 will be distributed to players based on ranking from Swiss rounds or as side event prizes/ door prizes. Also I will be looking to upgrade the prize pool wherever possible.

Proxies: 10 + up to 5 more for $1 a piece (and please make them easy to understand and follow the SCG guidelines)

Other Information:
-We will have at least two judges on hand including an L2 (maybe an L3 by then) Greg Schwartz.
-Rebecca Guay will be attending for about an hour (tentatively from 1-2p.m.) and when she shows up we will extend the   current round by 30 minutes so you can get your cards signed.
-See DA's thread here for more info on the Grudge Match (http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=40777.0)

I can be contacted at matthewjdenny@gmail.com or PM me with any questions. I will continue to look for prizes to bolster the prize pool and will post any updates. Please let me know if you plan on attending in this thread to make planning easier.

I'll be there, decked out in Yankees gear, reminding every Red Sox fan there just what a real team looks like.

Why would that require Yankees gear?

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Why would that require Yankees gear?

Because the tournament is in Massachusetts, home to the hated Red Sox.

I went to GP Boston (which was about a quarter mile from Fenway) wearing a Yankees hat, Mariano Rivera 2000 World Series jersey and my "Choke: The Official Drink of Boston Baseball" shirt.

Percentage more the Yankees have paid versus the team with the second highest payroll, since 2000 (please note that the Yankees had the highest payroll in each of these years):

2010 - 27%
2009 - 35%
2008 - 52%
2007 - 33%
2006 - 62%
2005 - 67%
2004 - 45%
2003 - 30%
2002 - 16%
2001 - 2%
2000 - 3%

/doesn't buy championships.

If I attend this, I'll be playing for New York, but rooting for the Red Sox.

By the way, I believe the Sox payed a bunch of money for DiceK that is not properly represented in their payroll, right?

Chris already addressed the point, but factor in the money that the Red Sox paid for Dice K, and they're not that far off.  Nothing quite like the team with the 2nd highest payroll in baseball crying the financial blues.  Obviously when the Sox won in 04 and 07 with their own absurdly high payrolls it was a moral victory for the little man, who proved that he could triumph over evil.  Right?

So that was what, $50M just to get Dice-K's phone number in 2007.  Let's be generous (because $50M doesn't quite cover the difference) and knock 2007 down to 0% different between the Yankees and the second highest payroll team (it's not the Red Sox in each of these 11 years).  You must be so satisfied that the one year a non-Yankee team spent as much as the Yankees that team won.

I view '04 and '07 more as a victory for middle management, not the little guy.  I would say that when the 2003 Florida Marlins beat the 2003 Yankees (the Yankees' payroll was >3 times as big as the Marlins in that year), now that was a win for the little guy.

Is this thread about whose going to take this down or about how much the yankees can spend. Becaue we all know that they have infinite money. But back to the topic im walking away with this trophy/poster/commeritive mug/gift card
Why? Because im a champ. And ill back up both my game and my words. No more lose blind grand tichus just hard tight plays. So who wants some! Im also calling grand tichu on this event.

Just wanted to point out that the 29th is a Sunday.  I think you mean the 28th.  However, if this were to become a two-day event I would be estatic.

I find it funny when people get mad about the yankees having a high payroll. They have a lot of money because they are the most successful team in baseball. they were able to turn that into a tv station, advertisments, etc and because of that are able to turn that into a bankroll to finance their allstars.

Given that their is no salary cap in the mlb, how can you find something wrong with the yanks working harder to get the best team that they can? I guess what it comes down to is that baseball is about winning, if you think its about anything else, then you are silly, and wrong.

Also I will be there

This event really should be a two-day event.  How could schoolings of such epic proportions be handed out in one day?

Looks like Rebecca Guay will be able to show up for an hour or so, probably from 1-2. Seeing as this is durring the second round, I will most likely extend the round by 30 minutes so that people will have the time to get cards signed some time durring that hour. I personally can't wait to get my set of foil scryb sprites signed.

Also, I am still waiting to hear back from scott fischer but does anybody know of any other mtg artists in the Hadley area? Its been too long since I kept track and I figure the more the merrier.

I'm pretty sure Cyril Van der Haegan lives in Providence. Ed Beard does King Richard's Faire in Carver every year, but I'm not sure if he actually lives close. In fact, I think I remember hearing that he doesn't, but it might be worth a shot. EDIT: I had a rare bought of ambition and checked. He lives in PA somewhere.
