Pennsylvania players, the time has come!  It's your opportunity to choose the team that will represent you in the upcoming New England vs. New York vs. Pennsylvania Grudge Match on August 28th.

The rules for voting are these:

1.  You can only vote for Team Pennsylvania if you are a Pennsylvania player.  You don't have to be planning to come to the Grudge Match, though.

2.  To verify that all votes come from Pennsylvania players only, the voting thread isn't a blind poll.  Instead, to cast your vote, make a post with your choices.  If you're not especially active in the Pennsylvania Vintage scene, it might help to mention the area where you live, or a tournament in Pennsylvania that you played in.

3.  You can make up to 3 choices for the main team.  The 3 players with the most votes will be the primary members for Team Pennsylvania.  You can only choose from the list of candidates below.

4.  You can also vote for 3 additional "understudies" for Team Pennsylvania.  In case someone on the main team can't make it, one of the understudies will fill in for them.  You can choose anyone you want to be an understudy, whether or not they're on the ballot for the main team.  They do need to be a Pennsylvania player though, and it would probably be good to ensure they're planning to go before voting for them.

5.  The voting will be open for 2 weeks.

The ballot for the main roster for Team Pennsylvania:

Matt Elias ("voltron00x")
Dominic Di Febo
Brad Granberry ("Rico Suave") Unavailable Sad
Chris Materewicz
Joe Pace
Jeremy Beaver
Jeff Folinus
Keith Seals
Mark Hornung
Ryan Glackin
Nick Coss ("Iron_Chef")
Steve Nowakowski ("Personalbackfire")

Happy voting, and may the best team win!

I am honored to be mentioned, but I regret to inform that within the past half hour I've learned of engagements that will need to occupy my time on the day of the tournament and consequently I will be unable to attend.

No Brad is unfortunate.  Voting on this is hard.  I want to vote D3G but excluding guys like Beaver seems wrong.  I need to think on this.  We have a LOT of good players.

Also where the heck is Steve Nowakowski (Personalbackfire)?  Tiger needs to be on this list, for sure.  Please add.

And, Sam Berse, what region does he qualify in?  He needs to be somewhere.  Guy is on fire this year.

This tournament and Waterbury finally made me stop lurking and create a TMD account.  It certainly does seem like we have some pretty tough choices.  NEPA will have to get together and see if we can make it out to this and Waterbury in quick succession. I'll update this as soon as we decide in case that makes a difference for any of you voting folks out there.

My .02 at this juncture says Elias is a must on any list, and I figure Nick Coss has done as much for Vintage as a format as anybody, especially in Pennsylvania, so if he's playing, he gets my second vote, so I guess I have to wait and see if we're going to see who my homer vote goes to between Jer/Dom/Joe/Me.

-Chris

EDIT: Could we also get a quick fix in the thread starter that says we can pick the team for New York? I'd call it subtle intimidation if DA wasn't from NE.

Removed Rico Suave and substituted Nowakowski.  Nick Coss made the original picks, as someone who knows the field of elite PA players way better than me.  So point all complaints in his direction.  Smile

Also fixed subtle intimidation typo.

Man, Nick Coss, he's your TEAMMATE!  Jeez.  He might not be planning on attending though so maybe that's my bad, but still, Steve does not get enough recognition.

Also, subtle my ass... it's ok though.  All that matters is who holds the chips when the day is over.

I didn't add Steve to the list since he said he was probably not going to be able to make it.  Hopefully he can, so if you want to please vote for him. (I guess that's why there are understudies after all).

This list was HARD btw; there are a lot of great players in the Philadelphia area and there was no way for me to submit a 30 player list.

My votes:

Team PHILLY (Jersey REPRESENT!)
Matt Elias (because the man's insanely good)
Nick Coss (because I have top 8'ed 100% of the vintage events I've played in in the last 6 months!)
Jeremy Beaver (because when he plays, he wins)

Alternates/Understudies
Jeff Folinus
Mark Hornung
Dominic DiFebo

Hopefully this tournament will be insane!  I hope to see a TON of people there, and then a TON2 people at WATERBURY ON SEP. 11th!

Primary team
Matt Elias - best player in tri-state
Jeff Folinus - because I'm arrogant
Mark Hornung - best Dredge player

Secondaries
Jeremy Beaver - when he tests plays very well
Nick Coss - supports the format and plays well
Steve Nowakowski - hates Vintage/magic so likely won't play

Sadly, I can't make it this year. Hopefully I'm as hot next year and get a slot  Very Happy

I'd nominate:
Hornung - in my place Wink
Elias - always a champ
Nick Coss because he's awesome @ life -  unless he's dealing crack, then Folinus.

And now, the results!  The ballots have been tallied, and Team Pennsylvania will be...

Matt Elias
Mark Hornung
Jeff Folinus

Backed up by

Understudy 1: Nick Coss
Understudy 2: Jeremy Beaver
Understudy 3: Keith Seals, after Steve Nowakowski withdrew from contention.

Wow, you Pennsylvania guys sure know your community.  Matt Elias and Mark Hornung were breakout favorites; I think Matt might have appeared on every single ballot!  Jeff Folinus also coasted into Team PA on a pretty comfortable lead over runner-up Jeremy Beaver.

But what was really surprising was the stark difference between voting for the main team and voting for the understudies.  In the New England and New York votes, the candidates got a good mix of votes for the main team and for understudy roles.  Not so for Pennsylvania.  By and large, the same people popped up as regional favorites for the main team, and different people popped up as regular favorites for understudies.

Good luck to Team Pennsylvania!
