Some people are focusing on the synergy between Liquidmetal Coating and Gorilla shaman. Being a 2 card "combo", it should be compared with Vault+key, and it's obviously worse, so what about creating a budget deck with those cards?

4 gorilla shaman
4 goblin welder
3 trinket mage // magus of the moon
3 magus of the unseen --great with coating, can steal vault ftw
2 ingot chewer

4 chalice of the void --not great but reusable with welder
4 liquidmetal coating --core of the deck
2 skullclamp -- needed to add some gas with unneded creatures, or stolen confidants
1 pithing needle --only if playing trinket
1 tormod's crypt --only if playing trinket

4 force of will
3 daze
2 hurkyl's recall

2 shattering spree --needed to take big artifacts from mud

4 ancient tomb
4 volcanic island
4 scalding tarn
1 strip mine
4 wasteland
1 island -- +4 island - 4 wasteland if playing magus of the moon > trinket
1 mountain

sb
3 waterfront bouncer  --antioath, antifish
3 gilded drake  --antioath, antifish
4 grim lavamancer  --antifish
3 ravenous trap  --antidredge
2 tormod's crypt  --antidredge

Probably not competitive, but quite disruptive and cheap

Cool idea, and I think you want some continuous artifact removal in the deck. I'd try Viashino Heretic.

I'd go for ancient grudge over shattering spree. Liquimetal can only turn 1 permanent into an artifact at a time. With grudge you get so much value out of your cards. Ancient Grudge has protection from force of will and duress too.

I was spitballing this idea all night and I thought about a mono red liquidmetal coating deck. I came up with a core I felt comfortable with I just don't know how to fill the rest of the slots.

4xMagus of the Moon
4xGorilla Shaman
4xViashino Heretic

4xLiquidmetal Coating
4xChalice of the Void (big numbers are 0 and 2)
4xLightning Bolt
3xBlood Moon

4xSimian Spirit Guide
1xLotus Petal
4xAncient Tomb
1x Strip Mine
4xWasteland

Basically it would destroy Shops but it needs some more stuff to shore up Control and Combo at least game 1 because games 2/3 you can bring in mass REB. Are there any good draw engines in Red?

The thing about going mono-red is you cut yourself off from really good cards like Nature's Claim, Seal of Primodium, Tin Street Hooligan, Ancient Grudge, and Tarmogoyf.  I love the stability, but I think it lacks necessary enchantment kill and explosiveness.

My question is: Would you play this card?

Why wouldn't you just run REB's main if you are going mono red?  I really doubt it would be dead more often than not.  SSG+REB is the closest you will get to FoW for red.  Btw, you should add Black Lotus and Mox Ruby to your "core".

No, not really.  Browbeat is really only good when Kiln Fiend is out and unblocked.  Wheel can backfire.  Why not just run SDT or maybe a Gamble or two?  Gamble is nice with Welder, and is also a great lock if you have Shaman and Coating since you just kill ANY permanent and return a mox with Welder to rinse and repeat.

Here's a dumb/brilliant suggestion:  Why not run Painter+Grindstone in mono-red???  This gives you a fast win and makes REB's even better since you will be naming blue.  Land destruction for R is some good.

Burning inquiry, Winds of Change, Bazaar of Baghdad and Squee, Goblin Nabob come to mind as draw engines, but I doubt they will work for type 1.

you forgot Kobolds and clamp, obviously the only real draw engine red has. I don't want to get too janky, but could Koth find a place ? You have the Moons and tombs to power it out quickly. I hear its good against Jace and can generate quiet the  {R}.

I don't think Koth is a good idea because you don't really have anything to ramp into, at which point he is a 5 mana 4/4 which is pretty bad. Painter/Stone with maindeck REBs though would be pretty saucy if you toss the budget aspect and go powered.

This seems like a really cool idea. I know you are trying to make a budget deck, but I think Vault/key is a must. So much main deck artifact destruction means null rod isn't a problem. Also, LMC combos with key. I could see a slower, more controlling deck build along the lines of steel city vault being made from this idea. Think a painter deck that isn't hosed by one card in a sideboard.

There is also a consideration to be made with Imperial Recruiter.  While it may not be "budget" anymore with Recruiter, it's also within the realm of possibility to play in a proxy tournament.

Imperial Recruiter brings a few strengths to the deck:
-He finds Gorilla Shaman, which makes him function as a tutor for half of your primary combo
-He supports another combo with Painter/Grindstone, which in combination with a suite of REB effects can be quite disruptive
-It can find various utility creatures such as Magus of the Moon
-Recruiter -> Trinket Mage -> Skullclamp seems like it might have some promise, particularly if you're able to chain multiple Recruiters in a row

Why are you guys limiting yourself to 1 or 2 colors?  I would play the Coating in a shell of:

4 x Welder/Shaman (or 2/2)
4 x Trygon
3 x Magus of I steal artifacts
3 x Smash to Smithereens (bolt and perm destruction....you can redirect the 3 damage to jace right? ok?)
3-4 Ancient Grudge
1 x Tinker
2-3 fabricate?  You need to get the coating asap.

fill in the rest.  More aggro throw in some green creatures or Bloodbraid Elf (watever is flipped over should have a purpose if you have a coating in play)
More control throw in Spell Pierce/Force of will.

Either way, I think a 3 color version would be better.  Now if only black had some great artifact destruction.....

OFC you could always drop red/green entirely and just go with the new sorcery disenchant that RFGs it instead in SOM (sorry forget name).  Even at sorcery speed I think that card is sickening in the fact that they cannot Y will their vault/key back, its GONE.  Along with all the other white artifact hate.  Divine Offering on your tezz?  I will gain 5 life.  I dono, a thought.

There are plenty of ways to go, but I would for sure include blue for magus, tutors, and draw probably no matter wat.  Remember there is also great synergy in blue with:

Copy Artifact (nice terstadon, I have one too)
March of the Machines (coating now reads "tap, destroy target land", titania's song in green can also do this)
Neurok Transmuter (especially if you also play REB, more for an aggro field)
Arcum Dagson (sacrifice itself to find vault/key?)

Just idea's to throw out there, depends on if you going aggro or control as I said.  But I honestly believe that coating is something that can really be used, and may make a few new decktypes with.

I am testing the pile below for now. It is a vial/coating

Quote
// Lands
    4 Plateau
    4 Savannah
    4 Ghost Quarter
    1 Strip Mine
    2 Taiga
    4 Wasteland

// Creatures
    3 Ethersworn Canonist
    3 Gaddock Teeg
    3 True Believer
    4 Leonin Arbiter
    4 Goblin Welder
    4 Gorilla Shaman
    3 Ohran Viper
    2 Eight-and-a-Half-Tails

// Spells
    4 AEther Vial
    1 Mox Emerald
    1 Mox Ruby
    1 Mox Pearl
    1 Black Lotus
    3 Liquimetal Coating
    4 Ancient Grudge

// Sideboard
SB: 4 Leyline of Sanctity
SB: 3 Tormod's Crypt
SB: 3 Swords to Plowshares
SB: 3 Nature's Claim
SB: 2 Pithing Needle

EDIT* Idea is not only to use Coating but also Eight-and-a-Half-Tails. Same concept. I like the option to change my welder or ancient into WHITE. This can be an out to Sphinx if the arbiter and mana denial didn't do the trick.

Well, I planned to make this deck budget because to be honest, I don't find it really powerful even with best cards, but when for example a tezz deck is unplayable without P9, this deck may do the trick with cheap cards.

One of the draw engines I have in mind is Chromatic Star, alongside with goblin welder, but I found it too slow. Also I was thinking about painters (quite obvious in this deck), and painter+skullclamp + welder is nuts, but also, quite slow.

I think that this deck must be focused on destroying artifacts AND stopping gush. So, magus of the moon can be a real winner. But I'm not capable to find a balanced deck, too many cards floating around...

Do I interpret you correctly if I assume breaking welder without bazaar is the key here?

Though you probably won't find a worthy replacement, there are some ways to go about it:

You could play frantic search, though that keeps your engine from coming online before turn 3.

You could play a little bit of dredge. Life from the loam to go with wastes and possibly golgari grave-trolls.

You could go heavy black: 4 pox, 4 smallpox, bloodghasts, clamps, welders and monkeys, liquimental and smash to smithereens etc..

Or something better that I can't think of.
