First of all, I'd like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who came and played Vintage at this past tournament. We had an awesome sixty-three (that's 63!!) players come to battle it out for multiple pieces of power, and over $1500 in prizes overall. If you would prefer I hold this type of event more often (with the $30 entry fee and giving away multiple pieces of power instead of just first place) let me know in this thread. It's my hope we find something for everyone and people can continue to enjoy this great format. If this was either your first Blue Bell Vintage tournament or one of your first, please come up and introduce yourself to me the next time we have a Vintage event! There have been so many new faces that it has been tough for me to remember everyone!
I want to extend my thanks to a number of people, first of all Nick Detwiler, who instead of playing in the tournament he volunteered his time to help me run the event and to run the dealer table. Without him there helping this event would have been an insane clusterf*** (trust me, he was a HUGE help). Also, I'd like to thank Mike Coyle, the owner of Alternate Universes, for graciously accepting us Vintage players into his store on a monthly basis, juggling his schedule, and being awesome in general. PLEASE! I repeat PLEASE spend money in the store when you're there for a tournament. If it's the newest expansion of Dominion, singles, sleeves, or just a soda, spend money with the store! They also buy and sell cards (who'da thunk it?!) so that's an option as well.
Unfortunately I had to leave early, due to plans I had committed to long before this event was on the calendar. Thank you very much to those of you (Matt, Keith, and Brian) who helped Nick Detwiler after I left. From what I heard, Matt Elias single-handedly saved Nick from insanity. Also, please thank Matt for typing up these decklists and quantifying the metagame. This was a huge help in me getting this report out there for the masses!
Congratulations to the one and only James P. Hangley III, aka "Charles N. Charge" aka "Thor, God of Thunder" for taking down the single elimination side event and dispatching Mark Hornung in the finals. Great job Jimmy!
Congratulations to Matt Elias, who ended up winning the Player of the Year contest. Matt amassed close to 200 points over the past year, and because of this has clinched free entry for the next year of Blue Bell Game Days! And here's all the information you guys actually care about!
Thanks again,
-Nick Coss

Nick, again, thanks for running these events. I would love to keep having double power tournies as those always seem to intice people like me to come more often.
Also, where does my G/W/B deck fall into?

Had a great time, lost the die roll to stax in the semis.
I feel that ponying up 5 extra bucks for an extra shot at power/additional support is a great idea, as long as it is supported. If we can get 45+ people at 30, then it's a better strategy for the community in general. However, if we come back down to 15-30, then at what point are we really making a positive change. That's my two cents.

EDIT: Nick Coss needs to post the pictures!! EDIT EDIT: Dredge MD is missing 2 darkblast?
Samoht...are you Samoht on MTGSalvation...if so we played some mafia...anyway...
Does anyone actually care about a tournament report from a MUD deck? It's kinda like...not dredge...and probably even less exciting than dredge.
I would like to apologize to Dave for our 5 minute T8 mirror match: T1 Steel Hellkite G1 on the play, win t3 with SOFAI that came down t2. T1 Lodestone Golem, T2 Steel Hellkite G2, he has no duplicant.

Anthony registered 58 cards. Lucky he wasn't deck-checked. If anyone can ask him what those cards were, I'd appreciate it. I would suspect Darkblast or Nature's Claim.

Seven Dredge decks! Wow! Is that the normal concentration for those things or is this tournament above the curve in that regard? I don't recall too many tournaments where Dredge makes up 11% of the field.

The pictures were all ridiculously blurry, but they show our resident Dredge players Mark Horning and Sam Berse playing Gush and MUD respectively, and to quote inspirational coach Patches O'Houlihan "It's like watching a bunch of retards trying to hump a doorknob out there!"

I approve of this message. Thankfully they're both intelligent guys. So I don't think those matches are going to look like that for all that long.

Yes I am. Which Mafia game did we play, I only ran like 3-5 of em. And some of them were all filled with noobs. Also, g3 your hand was just a little nuts in the semis. t1 shop crucible, t2 shop wurmcoil, t3 shop memory jar tanglewire...then what was it jar into 2 lodestones and a thorn, with another wire...sigh, m.b.n.

Battle Royale, the most lopsided game EVER!! Infinite scum FTL... G3 My hand was this: 3x Mishra's Workshop, 4x Relevant Spells IIRC, it was like: t2 wurmcoil nabbed the counter, t3 was memory jar + lodestone, and then t4 was like tangle wire + lodestone + thorn + wasteland...and then t5 was wasteland with another wire.

It's all good Sam. It's part of magic, it happens. Just wish I could have put up a fight since u blew me out. I still had a great time. Good job on the win by the way it was well deserved. Glad to see u playing a deck other then dredge also. Great job man. And nick I also think paying the extra 5 bucks is also worth the prizes. Ur tour are always good and with them prizes just makes them insane!
