Hi guys, for those who do not know me i am Ed Carey, Nick Coss told me i should finally post something on the drain.
I would like to thank Nick for a wonderful tourny, that Judge nick for running a great event, and thank all the players that i had a chance to see and talk to. It was nice to play vintage in a large tourny again. I have been busy with work and a new house for the last 2 years or so. I would like to say that i spent hours of testing on my list but i built it about a week prior. I know it looks weird. I got lucky against Paul in top 8 and Sam in top 4. If Paul named welder with that needle i was dead, and who actually casts a wurmcoil engine on turn 1??? i did it twice, once against Sam in top 4.

Well run event as usual, cool to see that 50 people showed up despite the NFL playoffs going on. Congrats to Ed Carey for winning the event. I am wondering what Jake and Sam played against during the day? I know that Jake played against Allen with Expresso Stax round 2, myself round 3 on Oath, and the top 8 list of Trygon GAT round 4. Then he double drew into the top 8. I believe that he played the mirror round 1 but I could be incorrect.

Blue Decks | 33 | 66.00% | Workshops | 11 | 22.00% | Dredge* | 5 | 10.00% | GWB Hate Bears | 1 | 2.00% |
*Dredge should really be considered a Blue Deck, because of the strong blue cards it plays. Fixed

*Dredge should really be considered a Blue Deck, because of the strong blue cards it plays. Like Jace, eh Jake? I decided to give Noble Fish the day off and run Glackin Oath. Or at least that was the plan. I so wanted to kill by Oathing Emrakul, revealing a Dragon Breath along the way, and attaching it to Emrakul. Since I wasn't 100% sure that worked I asked Mr. DiPasquale for a ruling before round 1. After much thought he ruled it did not because Emrakul would hit play well before the Dragon's Breath hit the yard and be available to trigger. A few rounds later I was informed it does work. Oh well. So I ended up making a couple last-minute changes, replacing one Emrakul and the Dragon's Breath with a Terastodon and an Inkwell Leviathan. Probably for the better in the end. I win round 1 without activating Oath once. I lose game 1 then win game 2 after his two Bobs reveal Inkwell and Trygon in one turn. Oof. Game 3 I am able to assemble Key/Vault for the first time in my Vintage career! I lose round 2 to a turn 1 Trygon game 3. I lose round 3 to Koresko's Hate Bears deck. Who knew Bitterblossom was good against Oath? Round 4 Game 2 I resolve turn 1 Mox, Orchard, Oath. It's all good, right? Wrong. My opponent drops Fastbond (sadly I didn't also have FoW/blue card) and proceeds to Tendrils me out turn 1. So I drop with my second 1-3 finish in as many events this year. Not good. Also not good was my performance in... Wescoe check... my Top 8 draft with Jake. Note to all interested, if you want to do well in a Vintage tourney lobby to be included in Jake's picks. Damned if he didn't pick half the Top 8, and 3 of the Top 4. I only managed 2 of the Top 8, Sam Berse (1st pick, obv!) and my sleeper pick Bobby "Don't Call it a Comeback" Gildea. It's all good though, I won back that $10 playing Tichu with help from my partner Chas. We got there despite Jake and Jimmy going out 1-2 on Jimmy's blind Grand Tichu call. Oh btw even more congrats to our soon-to-be-father Mr. Matt Elias! Gonna miss you at Gen Con this year buddy!

Me and you were already kicked out of the club by Jake back in November. This means I am still kicked, but you rejoin to kick Jake out. After getting kicked out, Jake and I form another club, whilst you enlist Jake's dad to join your club. Chas and my ringer(s) will happily join you guys, too! Most importantly, I would like to honor the newest member of our club, Matt Elias, Jr. In fact, before even being born or named, he's already a member of our club!! THAT, is quite an impressive feat; we all expect great things from him. Furthermore, excluding Matt Elias I, who would like to join the bet as to how old Matt Elias, Jr. will be when he wins his first DCI sanctioned or 8 or more player magic tournament? 10$ per person and you need to denote an age to the precise month and day. The closest guess to the correct answer wins the bet!

I was playing Gush, though I didn't cast one in any of our games so I wouldn't have expected you to know that. Good games, sir. I let game 3 get away from me when I Forced the Crucible instead of protecting my Tinker, but you played it well.
