I am surprised this one hasn't gotten it's own thread yet: Distant Memories Sorcery Search your library for a card, exile it, then shuffle your library. An opponent may have you put that card into your hand. If no player does, you draw three cards. When played along side wishes, it seems like a win/win.

It's a sorcery, it costs 4, wishes can't get things from the exile zone, and at least 50% of what you tutor for in Vintage is a one-of in your deck. Why would I run this when I can run Demonic Tutor Vampiric Tutor Gifts Ungiven Mystical Tutor Intuition etc.... Even Diabolic Tutor at is better than this, since Vintage cards are generally strong enough that you want the one you're tutoring for. It does pitch to FoW though.... sorry, this card is (IMHO) unplayable outside of EDH, and not really that good there either.

Agreed. This is absolutely worst than even Concentrate, any good player will give you the draw 3 instead of the card you tutored for, then you will have lost one of the best cards in your deck. If they do give you that card, it's because they have a really good answer to it and you just spent a 4 mana tutor for a card that will not do anything.

Oh boy... I forgot about not being able to Wish from Exile.
It didn't look that great, but I thought it was worth thinking about.
And I did consider Diabolic against this.

At , the card becomes a cute thought experiment. At its present cost, it's not Vintage playable.

Yah this is the same cost as Jace and I can't imagine why it would be a better play than Jace.

I was thinking it's like a brain damaged younger brother to Gifts, but I can the analogy working on Jace.

Honestly compare this to concentrate. With concentrate they don't get a choice nor do you exile your best card. And concentrate sees no play.

It's a hybrid of Concentrate and Diabolic Tutor. Except that your opponent chooses which you get. Neither card sees play in Vintage, and this one won't either.

I think it's a Library of Lat-Nam which costs one less but has a slightly worse effect.
But in either case, it isn't Vintage material.

To tell you something worse, why is this card a rare? I don't want to open a booster pack to find this being the card I pull.. Wizards must have really put all their thought process into Blightsteel Colossus.

I have a rules question - does the card get revealed? IF not, then you can bluff them into giving you three cards, and thinning your deck by one. A definite pitch-tester, if so.

Exile zone is a public zone, so all cards in there are visible to everybody. Unless you exile them face down (like Memory Jar)

Listening to WotC canned answers to complaints about bad rares, it's rare because : - it's "complicated" - it's a "skill tester" - you need bad cards to make good cards look good at every rarity - they have to design cards for every demographic at every rarity None of which makes any sense.

AFAIK cards in the exile zone are always face up. This was answered correctly just three posts ago. Exile zone is a public zone, so all cards in there are visible to everybody. Unless you exile them face down (like Memory Jar)
