Hey all,

I got into a discussion with someone when they asked me if there was a Vintage tournament scheduled this weekend.  I said there wasn't because of a nearby Extended PTQ in Philadelphia.  They said that was stupid because for the most part, Vintage players don't play other formats.  Is that true?  Vote what formats you play!

I play all except Cube, but I'm sure I would like Cube if I tried it.  Still, I'm concerned that its just a precursor for Borg assimilation.

I always play Vintage and Legacy, and will sometimes delve into Standard and Extended if I can borrow a deck/if there's a good deck thats affordable (ie, Jund)

Vintage and Booster Draft, though I would possibly play Legacy if there were numerous tournaments available nearby.

I selected Vintage, EDH/Com., Legacy and Sealed, and that's the order they're in for me.  "Sealed" for me is just 1-2 prerelease or release events with each new set, though I didn't show for Beseiged.  I don't go to Sealed GPs or anything.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops.  I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

same here.

Even though I have never played type4/cube, I have a type4 pile ready and a cube just in case though. I have the cards so i figured why not.  Very Happy

Aside from type1, I think booster draft is the next best thing. I now buy enough packs of Zen block or older (except kamigawa or lorwyn blocks...eww) and sstart drafting at the kitchen table!
Any recommendations on fun sets to draft? ...besides triple RoE  Wink

I really enjoyed drafting Shards block, come to think of it, I have enjoyed pretty much every set I've ever drafted.  I guess I like draft.  If you clarify what you like or what you're looking for in a draft, I may be able to steer you towards a set or block.

well, my group tends to gravitate torwards the battle step more than I.
Shards is amazing. Ravnica & Timespiral also. Drafted all three extensively, I must say.
We all seem to enjoy global enchantments, reusable spells and huge creatures. I like artifacts and utility critters but want to avoid artifact themed sets like Mirrodin.

Edit: what about Emperor for one of the formats? I never played, just thought I would mention it.

I checked Booster Draft, EDH, and Cube. I have a Type 4 stack, but use it so rarely I opted not to check it.

If I had a completely steady supply of opponents for EDH and Cube, my booster drafting would probably plummet to, like, once per set.

Also, in the last few months I've spent more time designing and tweaking my cube than all other Magic activities combined. Totally addictive.

I checked everything except type4 and EDH. I would play EDH a lot more, but people get tired of me playing a more competitive deck, not to mention the trade is super sweet for some of the cards.

While this may be slightly what I said, I was thinking more along the lines...If vintage players had the choice to play in an extended, type 2, limited OR a SWEET type 1 tournament, which would ppl pick? This was the gist of my complaint/wondering. I feel like if your average type 1 player had the choice to play in a Nick Coss blue bell event or other format they would chose type 1...but of course if there is no type 1 that particular weekend sure they might play a different format

I chose everything except 2HG and Type 4. I only play Standard at the occasional FNM I can make these days, and it's probably been 2 years since I've played competitive Extended.

2HG is lame. I wouldn't mind giving Type 4 a shot at either the next Blue Bell or NYSE, if anybody has a stack built.

My stack is with my 99% of the time.  Just find a couple of players who want to play and Ill bring it out and most likely join in.

My Type 4 stack is with me 100% of the time.  I would love to get in some Type 4 before, during and after a Vintage event.

Is T/O'ing a format?

Hmm...

I voted Vintage.  I don't really play anything else anymore, though I could probably have voted for collecting too.

I started drafting so I could play when there was no vintage. Then I started playing legacy because there simply was no vintage. I started EDH because my friends played it, and I hoped to trick them into playing vintage. Now I seem to play more legacy than anything because it tends to be what is happening, but we are slowly bringing vintage around and if we can keep an interest in it I would like it to be my primary format once more.

There are four people who didn't vote for Vintage.  Why would you be on this website if you don't play Vintage?  Seems odd.

Also, "Play" has so many possible meanings.  Does the question mean: 1) which formats have you ever, as a factual matter, played in tournaments or tested with friends?; 2) what formats do you enjoy to play? 3) what formats have you played recently or intend to play recently or would play if given the opportunity?  Or something else?    I haven't played Type Four in over two years, but enjoy the format, think about it, and would play it again if given the opportunity; does that count? Doesn't seem like it would satisfy the first possible example, but it might satisfy 3 or 2.

So, for example, some people play whatever the PTQ format is, but that isn't a format specific issue, usually.   Similarly, when I was invited to the Magic Invitational, I had to play all kinds of wacky formats.   I "played" them even though I wouldn't ever play some of those formats outside of the Magic Invitational.   Supposing the invitational was held recently, I would have, technically, "played" those formats, but not really.

The question is very ambiguous.

I didn't vote Vintage. I play EDH and occasionally draft. I'm on this website since I used to play Vintage and still like to see what's going on in the format.

I didn't vote Vintage.  I felt like, even though I *very* occasionally find myself playing other formats most of my actual Magic is spent playing Legacy.

As for why I'd still be here and not the Source, I guess I also like to 'check in' and see what the tech looks like in case the local TO wants to do another Vintage thing sometime.  It's not that I *wouldn't* play Vintage, I just don't have much opportunity.  I got tired of playing Vintage on MWS because I seem to be a little slow at the controls and people kept spamming the OK OK OKOKOK button as if that would make me faster somehow.  So yeah.

I'm pretty sure Nick meant "Do you play right now with any regularity?" as opposed to "Did you previously play regularly?" or "Do you wish you could play regularly in the future?"
