[Free Article] New Phyrexia in Legacy, Vintage, and Type 4

Whenever a new set is released a handful of writers do a set review, and we’re throwing our hat into the ring now too. We’re not going to review every card in the set here, because that would be a waste of everyone’s time. What we will do is touch on the things that we think are remotely playable in the Eternal formats, and try to figure out a home for these cards in either new or existing decks. Hey,
Good review - my only qualms were that you guys really hated on Beast Within. This card is the absolute nuts in Oath. I find it to be incredibly powerful, putting Oath online and stopping a threat for three mana. With a Jace in play the Beast token becomes irrelevant.
This thread also shows that dismissing Beast Within as not viable in Vintage is incorrect.

Hey there, thanks for your feedback. I know that Beast Within has been talked about for Vintage play, but I just don't think it's very good. I can dig the synergy with Oath, but this costs a lot to get online. Decks like Oath are already very tight on space, and for 3 mana the card had better be a home wrecker, which this card is not. You want to blow up that Chalice for 2 against a Workshop? I hope you have like 5 or 6 mana available in this fantasy world, because it's probably not happening. But we'll see.

Yeah I mean that's a valid point. It holds a lot of water against other decks though, such as Dredge and Blue.dec in general (it's pretty damn good in the mirror). True, it's dead against MUD, but then again you can board it out g2 and hope to just lucksack the Tinker g1.
