I played an insane Doomsday deck with Maniac.   I played horribly in the top 8 and punted.  A primer on my deck -- with over 20 dday stacks will be in eternal-central.com this week.

Just so you know Steve, at the point Rich named 'lands' for Teferi's Realm, it was too late for you to respond to the ability (unless he hadn't given you a chance to respond before he did so).

Teferis realm? What kind of deck is this?

Watching the stream, it was actually really effective in the game he played it.  It's biggest problem is that it seems a bit difficult to cast.

Lot of entries in the 3cc sorcery speed good to have in play set!

In game 1 of the top 8 match between Anthony Scalzo and Brian Carey did Brian have Tinker in his GY post Oath? If not, he made a huge play error in tutoring for Key with Vampiric and NOT Tinker. Tinker would have saved him from having mana crypt in play during infinite turns. Can someone tell me what he flipped to Oath?

They discussed that he did, in fact, make that huge misplay.

They're both my broski-bros, but I can't believe Scalzo won, like won WON.  He's such a dredge noob.  It's karma, though, have your deck stolen and then win it all right back. Very Happy

The Oath list had Blightsteel, Terastodon, and Iona main with Key-Vault. My 2 Card Monte list was the nutty mcflush, with both Confidant and Welders main. I wish I had played it day 1; it would have merc'd the field of Workshop, Dredge, and Snapcaster decks.

No concerns about Phyrexian Revoker from Shops?  Cat Stax can certainly play around Welder pretty easily provided the pilot has any clue what's going on, which I suppose isn't a given, for a number of reasons.  Any way, would love to see that deck list.

Wow, O_o, Dredge won again :p   And there was only one Shop deck in the top 8 Sad   My luck.

I played Doomsday with the Laboratory Maniac kill -- by far the best Doomsday win condition ever printed because it allows for the most stable and resilient win condition, where you can build piles that beat pretty much anything.  I discussed this at length in my Innistrad Set Review .   My list was extremely disruptive and controlling (17 md disruption spells + Gushbond engine).   I wrote a primer last week (before the tournament) that will be published very soon on Eternal-Central.com.

I only wish I had drawn the Dredge matchup in these top 8s :p.   Dredge can't possibly beat my anti-Dredge sb, especially when backed up with my full suite of maindeck Mental Missteps, Spell Pierces, Flusterstorms, and Duresses.   The only weak matchup I have in that top 8 is MUD with Magus, since I rely on the Gushbond engine as well.  My game 1 is pretty abysmal, but I sideboard up to 4 Hurkyl's, a bunch more basic lands, and 3 Teferi's Realm.

Teferis realm? What kind of deck is this?
QFT. What the fuck is this?!? Phasing is like Chains of Mephistopheles - it's never going to matter until some asshat brings it up as "super secret tech" (no offense Menendian)

Teferi's Realm is not new tech.  I discovered and wrote about Teferi's Realm for my Meandeck Doomsday sideboard in my articles in 2004 and 2005 in my SCG articles.

In this deck, Teferi's Realm is like a Hurkyl's Recall every turn (or, think of it like a Trygon Predator for their entire board).  Like Trygon Predator, it's praoctive, so you can get it on the board on turn two, and then just win.   Realm alllows you to develop undisrupted for a turn or two with Preordains/Gush, etc. and then go off unmolested.   However, unlike Energy Flux or Trygon Predator, it can phase out Gaddock Teeg, Mindcensor, Meddling Mage, and annoying creatures against Fish.   Realm is only good in Doomsday -- otherwise I would have played it in TPS in 2008 (although I tested it).  It's really, really good in Doomsday.

I was really disappointed to lose in the top 8 because not only did I misplay terribly against Rich, but aside from Rich, the rest of the decks there are really good matchups for me.  I can't believe I got paired up against my worst matchup Sad

Still, I can't complain too much -- 2011 has been my best year since 2007  (thanks Wizards, for unrestricting Gush!), and I see that I'm the only Vintage player that top8ed both the Waterbury and Vintage Champs this year, and I won another tournament in between (woot!).

I was really dissapointed that we only got around 78 players.  Since Vintage Champs was so much larger this year, I thought we'd get a nice Waterbury bump.  Still, massive kudos to Ray for putting this tournament on, and I'll be working on my tournament report this week.
