Thanks Joe.

Now that pairings have been set, please reach out to your opponent via PM, and try to get your first match in this week. If you have problems getting in touch with your opponent, please let me know via PM.

I'll create a thread for the game announcements a little later today. Please post results, recaps and lists there.

That bracket is a bit confusing. Are there some players who are already through to the second round? For instance, it looks like I am playing Yukon Cornelius in round 1 and then the winner faces BoggyB in round 2. Did a bunch of those players just get round 1 byes?

In the interest of keeping this event timely, it is a single elimination event. Only certain numbers work well with that, notably 8, 16, 32 and 64. If we're going to have this, we have to have byes that bring us to a number that works well with this.

Thus, the players with byes, chosen randomly by a computer.

Not that I'm complaining, but it's funny that the computer randomly chose the first 6 people that replied to this thread to recieve byes.  Wink

No thanks. Just post them upon having completed your first round, along with a quick recap and the net result. The thread for that will be up tonight.

Should the byes post their decklist after the first round, ie the one they didn't play in? Or after the second round? Would give an unfair advantage if after the first, but couldn't quite parse your meaning from your last post.

Very good point. I am going to ask all the byes to post their lists by the end of this week. This week, hopefully, will see round one fully completed.

FYI, this might be more interesting if you got some fingers from outside philly / new York. Steve is a good choice, but as a midwesterner this is just a bunch of dudes from out east battling it out and pretending the midwest doesn't exist.

The Ringers appear to have been chosen from among some name-recognizable folks who took the drastic effort to post "I am interested" or some reasonable facsimile.

If most of the Midwest players couldn't be bothered to do that, whose fault is that, exactly?  I think your anger / snark is really misplaced here.

It's December 5th.  This thread, with over 2,200 views, has now been up for three and a half weeks.  It's not like we were keeping this a secret.  I'm all for getting Midwesterners to participate, but it did require you guys to indicate that you were, you know, interested...

There will be another iteration of this event in a couple of months.  Should I take this as an indicator that you'd like to participate?

Sure, I'll plan to play in the next one.  I realize TMD is frequented considerably more by east coast-ers than midwesterners at this point, which does decrease the chances of those people requesting spots.  Hell, I didn't even know this thread existed until last night.

Also, from what I could tell from just the public posts, the last invite thing and your initial ringers were people that I assume you personally asked.  I just think it might help encourage people who don't live in Philly to participate if you were to email midwesterners as well, like Kevin Cron or Ben Carp or James King or any number of other successful Midwest players.  At the very least, it would give you a more representative sample of US vintage.  I'm not trying to criticize this thing or put it down, just offering my take.

Best 2 out of 3, or 3 out of 5?

I think The Noble and I are going to play tomorrow at 9PM EST.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops.  I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

Really...not only do I have a win-in game, but it is against the best of the 25 players, and should-be-ringer, Steve Houdlette.

We should be playing Wednesday(Tonight) at 8:30 pm EST.

If it's possible, I'd like to get in on this at the last minute.  I've been fairly busy over the past few weeks... opening my brick & mortar store!  I have some time now.  Just lmk if I can squeak in.
