Good Job as always. Keep it up Smile

The value of this all-in-one comprehensive Intro-Recap-Yearly-evolution on archetypes is just priceless.

Well played, Sir!

A terrific and thurough artcle, Mark.  I almost hate to bring it up, but is there anything you'd like to add about Oath decks with the spoiling of Grafdigger's Cage?

Good question....lol.....I just posted it in the comments but I will post it here as well.

At the end of the day I feel that Brian Carey's building practice will become common place for all Oath decks. Maindecked Beast Within and Nature's Claim and even Hurkyl's Recall will still allow Oath to remain in a competitive capacity against Grafdigger's Cage. The biggest whammy is to blue decks with Tinker, Yawgmoth's Will and Snapcaster Mage, which have never really had to deal with this type of hate before....

I think this is another reason why Demon Oath will have an edge over other options; it is much more reasonable to cast Demon off a Mana Drain and tutor into a bounce/removal for Cage (or just win off the Demon!), than it is to play a Dragon Breath or Elephant build.  My opinion, anyway.

Also - great article.

Lab Maniac kills in 2 activations and basically ignores the cage, since you just draw and play him. You could hybridize with Doomsday, s/b more traditional Oath duders if desired, all kinds of ways to work it. Could be very nasty.

A good read for sure; it is unfortunate that you didn't have the context of Grafdigger's Cage available to you when you wrote it.

IMO Oath is probably the deck that takes the biggest hit from the printing of the Cage; yet, with that being said the surge in creatures being played might still fix a spot for Oath to be a solid metagame choice moving forward.  It will be interesting to see how things play out.

Amazing article! I absolutely love that you have the versions of Oath posted. I'm currently trying to tweak my Rune-scarred Demon Oath, that Ben Carp ran, to defend against the Cage. I figure 4 Missteps, a Steel Sabotage and a Hurkyl's Recall, but I'm still trying to decide what to take out exactly.
