Hi all!

Dark Ascension is LEGAL for this tourney.

Every week, I'm going to start a 8-player single elimination bracket.  Rules are very similar to the TMD online invitational:
1. Games are played publicly on Cockatrice
2. Players have at most a week to complete each match.
3. Lists must be posted after all round 1 matches are complete.
3a. You cannot change lists between rounds.
3b. You must show your list at the beginning of each match after the first so your opponent can verify against your posted list.
4. Prize is the opportunity to play a featured match against a well-recognized member of the Vintage community.  (Volunteers?)
5. Drops after the bracket is drawn are final.  Nobody can fill that slot.
6. Brackets will be fully randomized.  There will be no preference or "seeds" of any kind.

Registration will be closed once we have 8 people or about a week passes and I remember to draw up a bracket.

Players signed up as of last update:
1. AmbivalentDuck
2. Ruboonia
3. Credmond
4. Grand Inquisitor
5. Stormanimagus
6. Evouga
7. BoggyB
8. Nataz

First matches must be complete by Feb 20th.  If all matches complete before then, the next set will be due within a week, and so on.

I need to put up a bracket on Monday, so it won't be too long.

Also a reminder to all that there's now a rolling tourney to lessen the consequences of missing a sign-up.

Done.

Please remember that we have rolling tourneys for just this reason.  I think we have 12-15 active weekly players right now and I expect it to keep growing.  The problem is that 8 man brackets make it tough to grow.

We could organize a one day tourney at some point. I don't know how it will work out being 'on-line'? It would be nice to have a larger event in the mix.

Enjoyable match with Corey.  G1 I sneak an early Tinker>BSC against a strong start by him (I needed FoW for his Kataki to be able to cast).  G2 we trade blows, and I think I'm in good position with Trygon, Jace and Tinker in the wings against his medium board.  But he drops a 2nd Grafdigger, meaning my Trygon has to sitback and I burn a turn and my Jacestorm was foolish, he gets there.  G3 he StPs an early Trygon and drops Teeg, and my Tinker meets...Knight of the Reliquary.  This version doesn't have Maze of Ith and I eek out a win.

Pretty standard list, basically Owen's list updated with Missteps, Flusterstorms, etc...

1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Sapphire

I (Dragon Oath) just played nataz (Dredge) and won 2-1 in a very close match.

Game 1 I resolved a turn 1 Oath, but Emrakul, the weapon I needed to stop the Bazaar, was stuck in my hand. Dredge did what it does by turn 3.

Game 2 I keep a hand with two Leylines, Preordain, and mana; Misstep hits my Preordain, and after back to back Chain of Vapors and a Cabal Therapy, my prospects are looking grim. Nataz stalls on dredgers, which buys me the time to topdeck Demonic Tutor into a Ravenous Trap he is not expecting. I barely outrace his remaining zombies and Bloodghasts.

Game 3 nataz mulligans to 5 in search of Bazaar, and I find Oath before he can recover from my two Leylines.

Game two was the interesting one.

He opens with 2x leyline and a preordain which I MM. I drop a COB, and Chain Leyline #1. Turn 2 he attempts a brainstorm, I MM that as well. I play a second chain for his second Leyline, it resolves, and I discard a thug and 2x random cards. My third turn I don't hit anymore dredgers, but I do manage a narco + a therapy in the yard, which allows me to Cabal therapy for the leylines just in time. It's close for another turn as he struggles to find cards, and I'm stuck on a single thug for dredging. Eventually he snags a demonic -> trap which pretty much ends the game for me.

That said, it was a ton of fun playing all those spells in a dredge shell. 2x MM and 2x Chain over 3 turns was insane.

GG's

for reference, I played Cagebreaker dredge posted here, minus 1 Norn for 1 Darkblast in the SB.

Just lost to Ruboonia in two very quick games.

Game 1 he had turn 1 time vault -> key, and game 2 he assembled it again on turn 4 or so one turn before I would've uncounterably cast Stony Silence (via Vexing Shusher). Oh well! Good luck to you Ruboonia! My list was:

1 Strip Mine
4 Wasteland
2 Wooded Foothills
4 Windswept Heath
3 Savannah
3 Forest
1 Plains
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Emerald
3 Elvish Spirit Guide
4 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
4 Scryb Ranger
3 Mikaeus, the Lunarch
3 Qasali Pridemage
4 Noble Hierarch
3 Gaddock Teeg
4 Swords to Plowshares
4 Stony Silence
4 Mental Misstep
3 Vexing Shusher
SB: 2 Serenity
SB: 4 Grafdigger's Cage
SB: 4 Nature's Claim
SB: 2 Scavenging Ooze
SB: 3 Thrun, the Last Troll

More detailed game log:

Game 1 I keep strip fetch fetch pridmage noble shusher thalia

lead fetch forest noble. He goes sea pearl lotus Sad and sac's lotus for blue, plays time vault and imperial seal (spicy!) time walks, and plays key. He plays it out, but doesn't reveal too much and gets me with jace. I figure because of a TFK he played that he's on some sort of RUB snapcaster list? So board in 2 ooze for a mikaeus and a swords.

g2 I keep a somewhat questionable hand: pridemage mika mika fetch plains swords shusher. Doesn't disrupt much but I figure the only way he can beat me is to get a quick vault/key online before I can stony silence it, and pridemage counters this. I draw noble turn 2 and play pridemage. He eot bolts him, so I need to get silence online quick. He lays jet after I lay noble on t3 and eot vamps for something (tinker?). Nope, ancestral. I lay scryb ranger, he says okay, then shusher. Sweet. I have stony silence in hand. But then he just lays time vault and tinkers for key. Oh well!

I took storm down in three games. Control vs. control mirror (i.e. the match took over an hour!) that came down to a fight over Sensei's Divining Top in the final game which ended in me Draining his FOW to fuel a massive Yawgmoth's Will.

I got real lucky on Ancestral>Nature's Claim game 1 (and still won at 1 life with a DConf on the board).  And G2 I had a solid defensive package reinforced by JTMS and then Trygon.  Tough games Evouga.
